An in universe reboot, where a new killer who’s read up on John Kramer’s case but—apart from that—is completely removed from any legacy hang-ups, could be compelling.

This was Spiral: From the Book of Saw and it was a dumpster fire.

I'm with @Lucky Planet - reboot.
New cast. New legacy. New methodology. New message.
Wan is a part of the sale being talked about with Blumhouse, so if Wan is on board to direct whatever new interpretation, I would put money on it that Whannell comes back to write too.

I haven’t watched any Saws since (I think) 3. But I do follow its story because it intrigues me (I just don’t jive with torture porn or gratuitous gore), and think the Saw lore has gotten too convoluted to create a new audience. An in universe reboot, where a new killer who’s read up on John Kramer’s case but—apart from that—is completely removed from any legacy hang-ups, could be compelling.

We literally have an ongoing court case where a twenty-something allegedly executed a health insurance CEO. You cannot tell me that revisiting Jigsaw’s original motivations aren’t relevant now.

the entire plot of saw 6 was putting a health care executive and his employees in jigsaw traps because they were denying treatments. specifically they denied Jigsaw himself a treatment for his illness. so it was very personal movie for jigsaw,
a lot of people call saw 6 the best sequel in the franchise.

I'm surprised that no one online brought that movie up when the New York incident with Luigi happened.

Sure this is just chumming the waters like they did for that Michael Crichton volcano movie, and the fact that we're on week four of this "hot bidding war" suggests there's not as much interest as they'd like for there to seem...

....Buuuuuut I do get to imagine a Peele-produced Texas Chainsaw movie and what that looks like, so who's to say this is bad?

I liked it a lot more than the last 2 or 3. for me it was better than Texas 3d recently or that weird prequel ( Texas 3d was so awful)
I enjoyed it for what it was. had some great scenes here and there. the bus scene was pretty good. some characters were cringe, but Leatherface was good

Only horror-adjacent but the animated PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS is surprisingly good. Threatens to go off the rails towards the end, but it's mostly very entertaining.

honestly I didn't like it. and I only liked the ending lol the end was the only entertaining art lol

I really didn't like Bring Her Back. There's nothing in this movie that wasn't done better in other films, video games or TV shows. It's just a shock value movie that's directed so basic and no sauce. The only highlight was Sally Hawkins, she was really good. Besides that this movie was just not good imo. If you want to watch a similar movie that was executed way better I highly recommend Hereditary. Love that movie.

Finally someone who shares my opinion. I heard countless reviewers and people say it shook them to their core, disturbed them, was extremely unsettling, etc. It was an okay movie, but it did nothing for me. Doesn't hold a candle to how Hereditary or Midsommar make you feel IMO. It felt like it pulled from multiple sub-genres of horror and stuck all those elements together, but wasn't cohesive or unique enough to truly stand out. But yes, Sally Hawkins was absolutely the best part by a mile, though the younger actors all did good jobs as well.

Not gonna lie, there are moments in Bring Her Back that I think if they don't shake you, you might have something potentially wrong with you. This isn't even remotely in the same context as Art the Clown spending 20 minutes dumping salt on an open wound, this is disturbingly evil on level horror rarely even dares to tread. I'm not a parent and I never will be and the fact that elements of Bring Her Back struck twinges of abject shock and horror in my heart is a testament to the power of the story they crafted. And they achieved it in scenes that featured nothing supernatural, no crazy monster, no extreme gore, no entity or possessed inanimate object, just strictly human characters doing strictly human things. To be able to accomplish that is nothing short of awe inspiring, for me.

But that's just my opinion and you're free to have yours!

and I was gonna say, I personally feel that the Saw franchise is much better than the final destination franchise.
they have some elements that are kind of similar ( a little bit) but I feel like saw is just much better. even the bad parts are better. the worst saw movie is still better than final destination 4 or 5.

and on that note I really enjoyed escape room movie from 2019. I really really enjoyed how they figured out each room. I enjoyed the sequel too it was really good. I wish that it became a bigger franchise. it felt similar to Saw.

Possibly! I think it was more so going into it with sky high expectations after all the social media reactions and reviews stating how groundbreaking it was and how much it affected people. I still don't think it was a bad movie, but just felt more like a mash up of elements from other genres and films all thrown together here. Although the story at its core was engaging and kept me guessing, it wasn't really what I thought it'd be. I think it was much more supernatural and not as grounded as I expected. If the young actor hadn't had all the supernatural stuff going on with his appearance and remained more 'human' looking, I think it would have hit harder and actually had a greater impact.

I can totally see that. I enjoyed the more supernatural aspects of the story and think they added a lot to the film but I can see wanting the same story told in a more straight forward manner. But then we'd be discussing a much more realistic, dramatic film and not a horror one in the genre sense. It's personally likely going to be neck and neck with Sinners as far as favorite of the year goes but I can see why it could be a divisive film for sure.

In other watching, The Ugly Stepsister is a vile, gross, harsh, unrelenting re-telling of the Cinderella fairy tale with tapeworms, body mutilation, blood, maggots, sexual escapades and one truly repugnant 'Prince' and I am completely here for it. When I think of how film is now so reliant on telling the same stories over and over while facing the question of how you tell them in new ways, this would be a great example of how to do such a thing. Twisted Fairy Tales have always been a thing, even at our own favorite Halloween attraction!, but this one really takes it up a notch in some revolting ways. I feel like it would make a great Double Feature with The Substance if you want to just lose your dinner before bed. It does move a little slow in the early parts but the groundwork that is laid gets paid off in some terrific ways before the credits roll.

The last several years have been great for horror. I've got to check out The ugly Stepsister. I've heard it mentioned a few times in conversations about other movies. Sinners is my favorite this year by far. The Substance was my favorite last year. If you haven't seen Julia Ducournau's films Raw and Titane, I strongly suggest those. Go into Titane with as little info as possible and you're in for a wild ride.

FINALLY got around to Sinners - and wow. Completely lived up to the hype, and really hope to see Coogler dive more into horror. This movie makes me want more horror movies/games that are set in the 1930s south. It's such an eerie setting that lends itself to horror so perfectly.

Outstanding performances all the way around, and felt paced very well for me.

(This also feels like it would fit perfectly at HHN...)

finally saw Maxxxine and I really liked it. way much better than X.
the story was simple but I loved the style and I loved the music and I loved the actress.
it was simple but never boring. great style, great 80s nostalgia. mia goth was wonderful.

Maxxxine might be the best one out of the 3 movies. I wish that the director made a 4th one
