Hmm... I've never been a fan of these games going into JP but I don't think I like the signs at all.
The Hammond hotshots one blows.

You've never been a big fan of these games despite the fact that you haven't actually experienced them at all. (I know, they are going to ruin the area with their horrible unthemed environment, despite their well themed buildings). And now shockingly you also don't like the signs?

Yeah, that Hammond's Hotshots sign is why I was worried. Ew.

What you were worried about? You were worried that hey would make a joke on a 1 foot by 2 foot sign on a well themed building?

Putting the normal "Universal is a publicly traded company, they are out to make money" thing aside, can you all please wait until these games are open and in full swing to judge them. Maybe (and I'm just throwing this out there) actually walk out to JP and look at them for yourself instead of viewing a zoomed in shot of the sign and judging from there.

So, are there any updates or developments to what is coming to JP?

Why do I have to wait until they're open when I can see something I don't like about them from here? I didn't pass comment while nothing was visible behind the walls. Now that I can see some of it, I have looked and come to the conclusion that I do not like the specific part that I have seen.

A dinosaur wearing trainers and playing basketball is tacky. That is what I can see, and that is what I don't like.

Have I experienced these games? No. But I've experienced carnival games and I hate them... I hate them in toon lagoon, I hate them in city walk I hate them at sea world I hate them at animal kingdom. They're ok in Springfield as part of krustyland and maybe DCA I suppose.

So no, I haven't experienced these particular carnival games but c'mon... They're not going to be ground breakingly new and innovative and blow me a way are they?

He's not saying you need to experience these games in particular. He's saying you need to look at the big picture, these small signs on a larger well themed building, on the side of a path, with a rather small sign on it. You are judging the looks based on the sign zoomed in on and the center of the photo. Wait until you are walking by them to see how you really feel about it.

I object to the games because they are an add-on entertainment after one has already paid $99 to enter and be entertained. Imagine if they pushed the idea and one had to put $12.50 into the LC magic fountain to talk with it, $8.00 to do a meet&greet or a $6.00 theme upkeep charge to enter an eatery. My principles won't allow me to pay for extra entertainment when I feel that I have already paid for it.

I stated way back that something like this was going to happen when Comcast took over. I believed I was referring to the upcharge seating for CineSpec. I have a feeling the upcharges will just keep on coming.

I could pay $20 for the plush outright or $3 for the chance to win it. The gambler in me loves games of chance and I'm looking forward to spending some time playing some midway games.

Yes but the games are the only ones you have a chance to walk away with a physical prize, and if you do win it it is a lot cheaper than buying the thing, so to some it's worth it and to others it's not, but it can't be compared to a meet and greet or talking fountain.

Has anyone considered these games make JP MORE like Dino-Rama at DAK than ever?

And yet, I'm sure it will still be 90% less tacky

Ha ha, yep. The parks are full of shops and restaurants that expect you to pay in addition to the admission price.

I know that is not the same thing, but if you think about it the carnival games are that much different than the included attractions as well.

Don't forget that theme parks started as you pay for a ticket for each attraction (for example an E ticket), then there was the business decision to do away with that. I do not see it coming back because people spend more time and money in the gift shops and eating.

If you think about it you should encourage others to play the games, because the more people spending money there at least helps them slow the skyrocketing ticket prices.

When parks made you pay per ride, admission was significantly cheaper, sometimes free.

Also, people paying for games does nothing to make ticket prices cheaper...if anything, games are there to make up the revenue lost in other areas of the park. The real money comes from food and beverage. Games are profitable but don't make the difference in ticket prices.

This one is a little more abstract... If they were to add games that were included in the ticket price, then the ticket prices would need to go up to compensate for the volume of free prizes being given away. Obviously this would not happen like that, so pay to play is the only way to have carnival style games with prizes.

But you can not discount profit because revenue is being lost in other areas of the park. Because obviously if it was not this way they would need to make up that loss somehow, so for example from the food and beverage profits. More profit is more profit.

I'm confused...you're arguing in support of up charge experiences, no? If that's the case, I'm saying that you can't compare games to pay-per-ride business models because in those cases, admission fees are a fraction of what Universal's is.

Then you went on to say games will halt increases in ticket prices. All I'm saying is that profits from games don't go towards the money ticket prices go towards. Ticket prices don't really reflect revenue as much as they reflect what people will pay to get in/perceived values (struggling theme parks don't raise admission to compensate for lost funds). You could maybe say game profits would go toward more attractions, but this is an insignificant amount of money when compared to food and beverages.

What I'm saying is, if there are people who don't support the games or similar up charge experiences, they have good reason.

I do not hate the games. They do fit the theme since JP is a theme park (designed to make money)
I have not played any of the other game areas so I doubt I will play these either.
If it makes people slow down and play that is one
less person in line in front of me
and if it makes money for Universal so they can expand or improve
That is cool with me.

I don't really mind the idea of the games...but I think that in the end, regardless of if JP is a theme park or not, it had a very specific atmosphere going for it. It's supposed to be a bit ominous and mysterious, and I think the games ruin that a bit. Seeing the traditional JP logo replaced by a dinosaur shooting a basket just kinda ruins the atmosphere JP had going for it in my opinion. Regardless, I do understand that they are a necessary evil, and as much as I really do have to admit that besides the Hammonds HotShots, the structures and signage could be worse.

The tone of JP is going to be changing with this expansion to more closely resemble the "Jurassic Park" from the book. The John Hammond in the book was a little less "lofty" than the one in the movie.

Again you are changing what I said, if your just going to make stuff up to "prove" I am wrong there is no point.

Profit is profit, I have no clue how you can disagree with that?
