There's literally nothing I want to do less than have another [HASHTAG]#SCREEEEENZ[/HASHTAG] discusion. I'd rather buy an AP to DHS only. I'd rather be forced to have Antarctica be the only ride I can ride for the rest of my life.

There's literally nothing else to be said on the matter. It irks some people. It doesn't bother others. End of story.

That's what I thought.

I don't want to debate it either tbh, but you have to at least be able to acknowledge the screens/simulator/3D in the parks is getting a bit overbearing. IOA is still mostly clear of it, but for how long remains the question (I actually wouldn't mind a few more over at IOA, it's just USF is cluttered with them).

I acknowledge your opinion, I just don't accept it as fact. Me, I prefer screen based attractions, as they're the only things 3d works on for me, damn my eyes.

I'm not saying I dislike screen-based attractions. I would love a park filled with pretty much all of the screen based rides there today.... plus a few slow moving rides or something as simple as a peoplemover type attraction (I don't consider High in the sky the same as it isn't continuously loading).

My favorite rides in the resort are Spider-Man, FJ, Gringotts and TF... however I could come to the park and go on a ride like MIB over and over again. The point isn't that there shouldn't be screen simulator attractions, it's that we need a variety of other types in-between to help provide different types of experiences. When all of the rides are the same type of thing, the rides become less fun imo.

All I'll say is [HASHTAG]#WaitAndSee[/HASHTAG]. Lots of stuff no one is expecting will be in Nintendo alone, not to mention other attractions.

Moving on...

It looks like Miyamoto will be taking over Iwata's duties in the interim, if not officially when the time comes. This is a good thing for the agreement between Universal and Nintendo, as Miyamoto is deeply involved/having fun with the theme park stuff.

*Sigh*
Universal Creative always looks for the best way to represent what they want to accomplish. Sometimes that is 3D somethimes not. Transformers has sceens, as they explained, because they couldn't have a truck transform into a robot realistically (and on and on and on). So it's NOT "lets listen to Next Big Thing" but it's actually an intelligent choice.
Regarding Nintendo Land I (logicaly) expect there will be heavy use on screens inside the rides because they want it to have that game ellement in there. But when you look ar Diagon Alley, while the ride has awesome real sets and heavy use of screens the rest of the land has (interactive) AA's comming out of it's bottem all over the place because that was the best choise.

After the initial shock and fear of what Mr. Iwata's passing might mean, I now believe that this will similar to the effect of Walt's death on Disney World. Walt's passing brought out the best in Roy and tWDC and they doubled down on the Florida Project. I believe they will want to do their best in memory and honor of Mr. Iwata. Nintendo lost a great man with great vision. Going forward this land will be a huge tribute to his forward thinking for the company.

All of the folks insisting that the overabundance of 3D screens isn't going to come back to bite Universal eventually are kidding themselves. Whenever I talk to GPers about coming attractions, the first thing they ask is "Is this gonna be another 3D thing, or will it be a real ride?"

Perception is reality here. There are other methods of content delivery. I'd at least be more receptive if the 3D was executed in rides in a way that wasn't just "we couldn't bother to figure out a way to do this practically." Give me Spider-Man, where 3D is used in tandem with actual physical, animated effects to produce a sensation that isn't just "oh, I'm staring at a screen."

I really don't get why this is so hard for people to get. I know we're the big Universal fans and are inclined to like what they put out, but 3D screens cannot be the main delivery system of every new Universal major attraction forever.

Now, back to Nintendo. I'm going to speculate that at least two of the major attractions will include heavy use of screens - Mario almost certainly, wouldn't be surprised by Zelda, either.

I would count on Mario being almost exclusively screens. (If there is a) Zelda, I expect a nice mix of practical and screens. (If there is a) Donkey Kong, I would expect it it be 100% physical, real, practical sets.

Screens are perfectly acceptable when done correctly, which Universal does. The use of 3-D is a little overused though, even though Universal does that well too. But I just got back from a trip to DAK and watched It's Tough to be a Bug for the first time in years. It was out-of-focus the entire time and I got a headache from it. I own a 3DTV and never get a headache from 3-D content but that was bad. Universal is better at using screens than Disney, and Disney is better at animatronics. One isn't necessarily better than the other; the two should use their strengths to build great attractions.

The bright, colorful world of Mushroom Kingdom would probably work best as a screen IMO, especially since most action would be fast-paced. But I agree with @ReelJustice that if Zelda and Donkey Kong are to become attractions, they will probably make better use of practical effects than Mario would.

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime released a statement Monday:

"Mr. Iwata is gone, but it will be years before his impact on both Nintendo and the full video game industry will be fully appreciated. He was a strong leader for our company, and his attributes were clear to most everyone: Intelligence, creativity, curiosity and sense of humor. But for those of us fortunate enough to work closely with him, what will be remembered most were his mentorship and, especially, his friendship. He was a wonderful man. He always challenged us to push forward...to try the new...to upset paradigms—and most of all, to engage, excite and endear our fans. That work will continue uninterrupted."

I'm thinking the same way. If I had to guess I'd say Mario Kart will be a complete 3D/4D ride, Zelda will be an omnimover-type ride with AAs, and Donkey Kong will be an indoor/outdoor coaster, with a couple of Donkey and Diddy Kong AAs along the ride.

C'mon, really? Why don't we just have a dedicated thread for the screen debate, so the people who want to discuss it can, and the people who would rather not don't have to be subjected to it? I think it's a valid subject given the diversity of opinions in play here - though I agree, shouldn't be cluttering up this thread.

To contribute further along Nintendo: I agree with @ReelJustice's assessment. If we're getting a DK attraction (and I suspect we might), it'll probably be in the mine-cart coaster variety (a notch or two above Nuthouse or Hippogriff), which won't rely on that. Mario Kart will almost have to. Zelda... predicting something like Kong or maybe even Spidey, if we get something of that scale.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a few flat rides out of this in addition to the headliners we're speculating on. Seems like a no brainer.
