I don’t get the animosity towards AR ghosts. Because they’re ghosts it would actually be far more convincing and fitting than the drivers in Mario Kart. I haven’t put this part out my idea out yet but it also includes highly interactive physical props throughout the mansion (vases, drawers, various knick knacks, etc.) that perhaps could drop treasure that would likely also be AR.

Cue the “BE GONE SATAN!!!!!” comments.

Because we have MK already, that's why. If you want an AR ride, go ride that. Not animosity: simplicity. We don't need 2 rides that function via projection goggles. I say that as someone who actually likes Mariokart. And you're right, AR ghosts make SO MUCH more sense than Mariokart racers, HOWEVER... we already have Mariokart and it's not going anywhere! Sooooooo...

We need a ride that doesn't break down or delay everyday for being needlessly overcomplicated and EATS through its queue for being constantly moving like Unchained. I'm asking for Astroblaster's omnimover with Ride n Go Seek flashlights styled to Haunted Mansion.

This implies there's such a thing as a good Midway Mania!

It took Disney designing one of their worst attractions of all time -- WEB Slingers -- to make Midway Mania look good in comparison!

Never change, belloq. lol I've always liked Midway Mania. On that same coin, other side, i loathe WEB Slingers and Villaincon, so... yeah. If we got Midway dressed up as Haunted Mansion with show scenes between screens, i'd be pretty stoked. Honestly, that reminds me of the Spongebob ride at Circus Circus, which was deceptively good!

Spongebob ride at Circus Circus is definitely “slept” on (it’s really expensive) but wasn’t a fan of the frame rate trick they tried pulling off. Especially in the “simulator” sequence.

Honestly though, it’d be funny if we got a Luigi’s Mansion SCOOP, lol.

I’d argue they should get rid of AR completely and never consider it again, unless it’s reimagined.

It’s cumbersome, annoying, and doesn’t even look that good…

Practical all the way. Use peppers ghost if you want to insert some sort of digital “AR” moment.

Yeah, I agree that Peppers Ghost could/should work for any big show scenes but if we're going for an interactive ride where we want the ghosts to react to our hitting them with whatever device i'm of the opinion that Universal has the technology to do this already if they really wanted to. Put musion-scrim effects in front of a practically built hallway or room and project things onto it so it has that kinda transparent but still has a semblance of physicality to it; This is amplified if you have the stuff in the room actually react and move around with the stuff they've mapped to project onto the scrim (i believe everything i'm mentioning here is already used in the Gringotts pre-show and would work for a ride that transitions between screens if need be).

EX: a projected Boo ghost is floating through a room and reaches a table where he shakes it and knocks several things on the table over. The things on the table and the table itself are real and have the effects to shake built into them and joints to tilt various items over based on the timing of the projection of the Boo hitting/shaking it. Take it a step further and allow the Boo's manipulation of the scene to be affected by our ability to hit them with whatever device we have and i think we have the makings of a pretty decent 'shooting' attraction.

People wanting AR gone don't know Nintendo

They love this gimmick crap, look at the Wii and Wii U

I'm not saying the AR is the best but I will be very surprised if they ever get rid of it because of Nintendo

I'm of a similar mind. AR is only really cool in theory. In actuality, the tech is incredibly limited and just not that interesting within a setting like a theme park. It's very similar to VR in those ways. We tried both, let's move on to more impressive showbuilding techniques now.

I’d also say it’s a PITA for theme park operations. In a time when they are cancelling 3D on various rides due to glasses and stuff …

AR tech clearly isn't mature enough yet to support a theme park ride like this but lets be serious for a second: Just removing the headsets from Mario Kart would make it 10x worse.

I like the AR on Mario Kart and I like the AR in the binoculars. It's good to be different.

Yeah like, theres no “fixing” MK. You can’t take out the AR, because then it turns into a (really nice) prop warehouse. I have no idea how this thing is going to age…like, what does this look like in 15 years?
