Looks good. HBO max is an interesting choice. further flame the Theatre/VOD debate.

I'd say this is a matter that's been set in stone since WW84, both this and Dune. If anything; I wonder how successful it'll be theatrically, as No Way Home is the week before this.

Didn't think the music choice worked for the trailer but other than that count me in!

I do wish they went a variation of the original score.

Dang. I’ve never been super attached to this series, but I did enjoy the older movies. I’m optimistic as well. Pretty good trailer.

Eh. I liked the subtle change they did to fit the Matrix vibe. Agree to disagree I guess.

Saw it. Mostly fine. Didn’t hate it but I wouldn’t recommend it. Had some great ideas but surprised at the lack of “Matrix-y action”.

Here’s a question:
Did you see it in a theater or HBO Max and would you have bothered to even check it out yourself if the latter and that wasn’t an option?

HBO. I probably would've gone to the theater if that was the only way but I wouldn't have seen it opening night.

might be one of the worst sequels I have ever seen in my life lol... I feel like it destroys the end of revolutions.
it has giant size plot holes. incoherent in some parts, ruins some of the mythology, undoes story parts from 1 2 and 3.
really bad action and bad fights with shaky cam. terrible effects, really bad dialogue, terrible terrible villains. a lot of wasted opportunities.
I can't remember a worst sequel. it literally breaks anything that matrix 2 and 3 did.

this movie mocks action movies in general. mocks the first movie. mocks the studio. mocks its own matrix fans, it's like a parody. it really is not a real movie. it is more like an experiment. it is a visual experiment and critique on modern reboots.

I loved it. Good action with clever, self-referential meta-humor, that openly mocks people who never fully got the first movie.

Chad being played by Keanu’s stunt-double from the first movie is inspired.

The biggest burden it had to deal with is its own lore, which it handles well enough. Considering the third movie ended with Neo and Trinity dead, it was always going to make the ending of the trilogy irrelevant. I’ve always believed the first movie never needed (or was supposed to have) sequels, but I thought this was great. The mockery of everything was kind of the point, as so many people never understood the first movie in the first place.

Seeing it today as a birthday celebration, but I'm very excited hearing how genuinely weird and cynical in places this might be. Not that I necessarily think this direction is sustainable nor the best for the franchise, but idk. For me, if something entertains and/or will keep me thinking and talking is a win

Said this in Top 5, but it -really- clicked. Definitely one of my favorite films (if not for NWH, it might've been the favorite film) of the year as I, even not that fully into the Matrix rabbit hole [heh], was enthralled by it's self-criticism and self-mocking.

I really wanted to like this but it was ok at best.

The flashbacks to the previous films got stale quickly, the action and fight scenes were terrible, it was like watching a bad tv show. Made even worse by having the John Wick director playing Chad. Recreating the opening scene from The Matrix but somehow making it worse, set the tone for the rest of the film.

It was great to see Neo and Trinity again but the plot was just a mess.

well it is supposed to be bad on purpose,
that's the point. that's why it exists. it's awful on purpose.
the bad diogue, the bad action. the cheesy ending. all on purpose.

it isn't a real sequel or a real movie. it was never meant to be serious. the movie tells you that repeatedly.
this movie is a director telling the audience, the studio and the fans of the matrix to stop asking for sequels and reboots.

this movie is criticizing movies like terminator dark fate and force awakens.
it is literally telling us to stop watching sequels and reboots. it might as well have had the director yelling "STOP CONSUMING TRASH SEQUELS"

the awful terrible action is a critique on modern action movies like marvel. the awful horrible shaky cam and awful awful cgi and bullet time are mocking all the movies that copied matrix 1. It mocks big blockbusters.

this movie is closer to scary movie or THE PRODUCERS
think of Lana the director as the characters from The Producers. (making the worst possible sequel on purpose)

I understand all of this. I get it. I get the message. yeah I get it. I get that terminator and star wars and marvel are soulless crash grabs
and I didn't enjoy it even though I get it. so, mission accomplished? I will never war h it again. the acting is awful. I did not enjoy it.
the funniest thing is that the movie is flopping and failing against big budget cash grab spiderman and sing 2, and that was supposed to literally happen lol
going against spiderman (which has all the problems that this movie mocks) is the most hilarious thing that could have happened.
