For what it's worth, I think if they had a decent idea for a Toy Story sequel after TS4, I don't know if they would've gone the Lightyear route of making spin-off franchises. But maybe that mess was just the Post-Endgame, 2019-era Disney getting a bit too confident that any Superhero film they make with Chris Evans starring will make billions.
Lightyear was all Chapek.

Omg. I'm so in for this. I love Andrew Stanton so much. He's arguably the best director at Pixar so hell yes! I wasn't at all excited before but the fact he's back for this film has sold me.

From the image, I was under the impression that Toy Story 5 would be about toys vs. modern tech, which honestly isn't a bad angle. Then, I heard that they announced an army of 500 malfunctioning Buzz lightyears would be the villain, and now I'm confused. Sooo...is this going to be about toys vs modern tech or not? If not, I just lost interest (again).
We don’t know that the army of Buzz are a main villain, possibly just a side villain. I do think the premise of the toys getting forgotten in the digital age has a ton of promise.

Also, is it possible we could move on from Bonnie here to potentially Andy’s son/daughter (at least by the end)? It would be a big full circle moment.

I don't know why exactly, but having Ipads and modern tech as a primary plot point in animated movies like this just instantly dates them for me. The other films are grounded in the 90s in a lot of ways, but also feel relatively timeless. I brought it up in the D23 thread, but I think Wreck-It Ralph VS Ralph Breaks the Internet is a solid warning against the direction this one is going in.

I do wonder why it is that people are excited for Shrek 5, yet are also dreading this film. Is it just because it's only been 5 years since Toy Story 4 came out, but 14 years since the last actual Shrek movie?
Well we don't know what Shrek 5 is about, so there's hope, but their pitch for Toy Story 5 so far is "phone bad".

right, but they haven’t made a good Shrek movie since George W Bush was in office. they haven’t made a bad Toy Story (yet!)

How does Woody end up back with Bonnie? The whole catharsis of 4 was Woody saying goodbye, but he’s in the still.

I wonder how they are going to explain that. Perhaps he got bored with his mission with the "Lost Toys."
I assume he must keep in contact with them and maybe is near by helping others and stops by to help them

But we will see, its just funny to see one of the best series ever just become this mess,

I wish they would have just started with new Toys from Toy Story 4 and on

that could be a shot from well into the film. I’m imagining Bonnie forgets them for technology, Buzz or Jessie somehow bring Woody back in to fight against technology, etc, etc.

Maybe they’ll go the Rise of Skywalker route and say they just bought a new Woody, kind of like how we were all supposed to forget that the Emperor definitely didn’t survive that fall at the end of Return of the Jedi.
