When I was waiting in customer service line to upgrade my preferred pass to premium, there were several people in there complaining about the dining plan. The employees were stating things like, we understand, we believe you, etc.... with this is the third day of it being used. So it sounds like so far there has been some confusion of how it has been presented vs. the limitations. That seems to be some of the complaints I over heard.

Did you happen to overhear any specific complaints?

It is in almost a beta phase. I imagine there is a lot of information coming from multiple places and issues arising from that. Nothing runs smoothly initially and when things do it's because they've been tested to hell or they'll mess up later. It'll run smoother with time.

I'd like to know if you are forced to order only certain items at the sit down restaurants?

I am almost certain that was one of the complaints. Nowhere in the materials does it say "select items" at the various locations, but based on my experience in both food service and pricing/profitability and how Disney conducts their plan, there's no way this is intended to include a steak at Mythos or lobster at Lombards every night, and I'm sure they're limiting menu offerings to plan holders.

One complaint I think had to do with once they got the restaurant it not being handled properly. Another complaint I believe had to do with the limited amount of places to eat and that the info they were given was not accurate. Again, some of the issues have to do with the phone call conversations that take place when purchasing this stuff. I am sure some stuff is not conveyed as well since it is so new.

I don't doubt it will get better over time (So will Disney NextGen), but some of what we said might be issues (limited choices) seems to be actual issues. That was more of my point and not that it is a fail. No program like this can be garnered a success or failure for probably at least 6 months.

And see that's what will then ruin the dining at the parks, because then in order to reduce complaints, they will try to make everything on the menu available under the dining plan, and so steak, lobster, etc. will be taken off the menu. Or go to a 2-credit system for some restaurants like Disney does. And then everything on the menu at the restaurants will have to fit into a certain price structure in order to be eligible for the dining plan, which limits what the chefs can do. I think the dining plan ruined the dining at the mouse down the street, and hopefully won't ruin Universal's dining.
