Universal Orlando August 1 Press Conference

While perhaps experiencing brief periods of downtime in the grand scheme of things, the super hero/comic genre has withstood the test of time.

Modern Superman came out in 1978 and then died with Superman IV in 1987. But it took all of 2 year for the Batman franchise to pop up. Batman and Robin then killed things in 1998. Then it took all of 2 years for X-men to come on the scene in 2000. Then from there Spider Man came along in 2002 and has been popular ever since, then the MCU.....
Batman and Superman are only two comic heroes out of the thousands of potential movies/tv shows, and there were dozens who had tried and failed. You're forgetting all the numerous failures and literal jokes (including Adam West's version of Batman).

Comics had historically been a massive failure and punch line to the general public, aside from cherry picked movies. They had a massive resurgence over the last two decades, countering the precedence.

Video game movies (and tv shows) are in the same state that comic movies were from the 90s - terrible track record, with a couple of successes.

But we're getting off topic. The movie (Dr. Doolittle) isn't even out yet. They've poured millions of dollars into it. It has an A list actor and all star cast. They have a production company who actually gives a damn. It's a first party IP. There's more than a .01% chance.

But that too is off topic. :) Dr. Doolittle won't be announced, it won't be a part of FW / EU, we both agree on that.

Actually, I believe @Legacy brought up a weird rumor that Universal has the rights. Will it be in this park? Probably not, but it's something to note.

Yeah, I made a quick mention, and it still lives, 20 pages later. But Legacy's comment definitely brought my eyebrows up. Especially with Alicia saying 1 or 2 areas won't be part of the opening.

Eye of Sauron in 2025!!!

Finally had a moment to pull together the original 1993 Universal City Florida press kit. Will be interesting to see if they use the same playbook on Thursday or something with more detail. Hope this is of interest to some...

Wow! I have that same press kit, but the only difference is your master plan is dated April 1994, and mine was dated September 1993 - it's super interesting to see how much changed over the course of 7 months!

Also, I too scanned the whole thing in several years ago and hosted them on a Tumblr blog (lol) - surprisingly most of it is still accessible:

I also have higher-res scans somewhere, but that's for a different thread! Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)

So true. Glad you pointed out the evolution of the plan. The master plan from 94 was a fold out update that I believe was used during the investor dog and pony shows that followed the main announcement in 93. The 93 plan was included in the press kit at the reveal... I know that image has been floating around here a bit so I didn’t post that one. A great bit of nostalgia it all is. It will be interesting to see what a resort reveal 25+ years later will look like.

So glad you shared awhile back... seems like this is the place where these nuggets of insider past are appreciated.

I’m excited for everyone at UOR on Thursday... lots of work for a press reveal and then the internal excitement grows when the remaining TMs get to hear the story and see the future.

That was a version of the logo that was on my construction site access badge prior to the final IOA park logo of today.

I think the logo posted was before this one on the scrim:

That was awesome, thanks for sharing! It's interesting to see JP being mentioned in 93. I think it was planned for USF before being moved over to IOA once the plans changed from Cartoon World.

They also nailed CityWalk in the concept art. For something that was designed over 26 years ago, it still feels modern by today's standards.

I've never seen these concept art in such detail before, thanks for sharing!

Is that the Egyptian hotel where Royal Pacific is? It's interesting to see the parts of Cartoon World which survived to IOA look somewhat similar but rearrange, mainly DC/MSHI being moved from the back of the park to the front.

Hey, look at that hub and spoke design of Second Gate (IoA). Just like Disney, no design ever really dies... ;)

Someone with some Photoshop skills superimpose that on the new site. I'll be it's a close match

Does anyone know if this will be a total reveal, or if the press releases are going out to media the night before with an embargo until the announcement time? If that's the case sometime overnight things may start leaking.

Plus, Orlando has plenty.
Including Top Golf right across the street from site B.
Each world in the new park should get its own mini-golf course.
I would love a Nintendo themed mini golf course! Just imagine trying to get your ball passed the Thwomp blocks!
But I'd prefer the location to be outside the theme park itself (like in CW). Still unsure how this whole hub thing is going to work of course.
