No. Monorail as far as track is concerned is virtually maintenance free. Light rail uses tradition rail, the rail has to be continually checked for alignment and loose ties. Also track has to be replaced as it wears out.

Yea, I don't think light rail is viable in the slightest

Technically the term light rail refers to what the rail is carrying. Passengers instead of heavy cargo is considered light rail. Monorail is actually also considered light rail.

Ah. I thought it had to do with train weights. Considering this further information, a monorail appears to be a better option than an elevated system of another type, but I'm still not convinced that an elevated system is necessary.

I also think that the Monorail would be the choice that they'd go on..but I think that the experience from traveling from one place to another would be the factor that would make it different.

It may or may not be. To me there's no advantage to an at grade system. So it would be best to use either an elevated system or just use buses.

True, but my preference would be to allocate money towards in-park experiences as opposed to fancier transit options.

If Universal wants the feel of all one resort, it is key that they have some sort of transportation system to get people from A to B without sitting at lights for long periods of time or sitting in traffic for long periods of time. You are correct it does not need to be "fancy" but it needs to do the job. Just buses alone will not do the job.

They're probably going to have to. I don't see a viable way forward to connect the two resorts, but we'll see

Isn't elevated rail considered heavy rail? Light rail and dedicated busways can easily be set off from traffic lanes, thus the word dedicated.

I am curious to know why at grade transit wouldn't be considered viable.

As far as I understand, heavy rail is the choice of transit specified. Elevates in American cities is heavy rail commonly elevated but the method of transit being elevated doesn't necessarily make it heavy rail. I could be wrong.

If hyperloop ever has an accident, it's going to be horrific. I'm terrified of the technology.

Hyperloop seems to be a good compromise to a pure vacuum sealed train. In these cases a hyperloop would be less horrific in the event of a leak in the tube. Hyperloop is also meant to be an alternative to air travel and wouldn't really apply to these incredibly short distances.

This would be an interesting idea but I don't think the curvy nature of Universal Boulevard would lend itself to this kind of system. Maybe from the Kirkman extension?

It's nice to hear monorail being suggested in mainstream media as opposed to just message board speculation. Plans for Universal project on I-Drive may cause tangle of transportation issues | WFTV

I literally just saw this. Universal faces some transit challenges. Very interesting mention though.

This is what i'm thinking could be the most logical way to get people from resort to resort (different theming of-course; but you can get my point). It'd allow something that Disney strangely doesn't have.
