Universal Studios employee accused of stealing from park

ORLANDO --

An employee at Universal Studios has been arrested, accused of stealing hundreds of dollars.

Matthew Massengale was charged with theft by an employee on Thursday, July 25.

It happened at a Dippin’ Dots cart where Massengale was working at the park.

A secret shopper told officers they witnessed Massengale take money while he was ringing up transactions.

The secret shopper even paid with a pre-marked bill that was later recovered from Massengale's pocket.

Massengale admitted the $346 that was recovered from his pants pocket belonged to Universal Studios.

He has since bonded out of the Orange County Jail.

If he was bold enough to steal $346 on this day, it means he's been stealing for quite some time. Either that or he has really huge balls.

Idiot.. can't believe they had a secret shopper go in and pay with a marked bill. Either they do this randomly and got very lucky to see all this and catch him or they had a hunch already and finally got definitive proof.

There should be a undercover money guy at the parks assisting the employees at the snack and drink carts (popcorn, beer, ice cream, etc.) with the money. They probably come to his stand, which should be busy, to find out he isn't making much. A watchful employee had to of alert the heads at F&B. Good thing they caught him, but now the rest of the F&B employees have to sit through a long meeting about this guy.

Nice going dude. :fist:

Don't understand how people think they can steal money at big corporations and not get caught. Big company's like retail stores and theme parks know every last penny they make. IDIOT

He might have been a vendor for a Dip N Dots bike (rather than a permanent stand), in which he is responsible for the money and product (which is why vendors for seasonal push-bikes make commission).

Wow $346 dollars in Dippin Dots money, Sounds like he is just dumb. What employee doesn't know that Universal inventories Everything and knows how many everything they have. I am sure the secret shopper was a plant after the were sure he was stealing.

Lesson here: always steal the product, not the money. This guy should have been pocketing dippin dots, could've retired early.

They do this quite often. More often on the carts where people are alone, and on the games where there are no registers. Although it's usually shopping a position (not a specific person), they do specifically shop people when they get a tip.

To be honest if this guy was making less then everyone else, that itself is enough to set up a shop.

Universal Orlando does stings all the time. Recently a employee was fired because a secret shopper dropped a wallet in front of him and he stashed it in bushes and picked up after his shift. There are cameras all over the park 82 just on transformers.
