I could spend hours in the fearless river, not having to go on anything else (except Krakatau, that thing is incredible even though my contacts hate it). I would have on Friday if thunderstorms didn't roll in before park close

Yeah, we got out of there just in time (around 230) — September is a wonderful time to go to Volcano Bay … except for the regularly occurring thunderstorms.

Totally! Had a great day, even ended up getting a cabana (which I was grateful for, but then realized I was on the second floor and left right after the first crack of thunder)

How much did you pay for the cabana? We knew we weren’t going to stay long enough to make it worth it, but we’re considering it for next year.

Altogether it was $525 (it was less than $400 last October though it was def. chillier between rides, so I'm guessing pricing is seasonal/super variable). With that you get the massive breakfast basket, 12 waters (though they'd probably comp you more if needed), hand sanitizer, 8 towels, chairs, and the in-cabana tapu tapu booker. I really like having the padded lounger for breaks, and there are fans to keep things cool.

I ended up doing a day-of upgrade from preferred seating and paid the difference. They said cabanas were underbooked and let me pick my spot - I ended up with a fantastic view super close to restrooms, krakatau, and the lazy river entrance. 14C?

Photo file is too large to share but the pano shot I got is chefs kiss!

I love those drop slides. They can be very scary and thrilling, and it's always a great rush. I always try to ride them whenever they are available in a water park. The looping drop-floor slide at Blue Bayou park in Baton Rouge is probably one of the most intense attractions I've ever experienced. Hope this one reopens sooner than later because the Volcano weenie and theming definitely adds to the experience.

I also operated some Drop-floor slides at Island H20 water park for a summer and had a lot of fun sending people down. People would be terrified on the way up and be celebrating and jumping around with their party after they get off, it's a rush.

Interesting look at how the aesthetics of Volcano Bay have changed over time due to weathering:

bsky.app

bioreconstruct (@bioreconstruct.bsky.social)

Paint at Krakatau in Volcano Bay has weathered since opening day. Painted in shades so that it still looks volcanic due to this expected weathering. Seen in aerial photos here on opening day, May 25, 2017 and today Oct 11, 2024.

Most of the Volcano Bay tenting has faded to near pure white. Aerial comparison of opening day, May 25, 2017 and today Oct 11, 2024.

I noticed the whited out tents when I stayed at the Cabana Bay tower during the opening of HHN this year. I hope we see a refresh soon, because with the foliage all grown in now, the park could look absolutely stunning.

I also noticed just how wonderful and beautiful of a lighting package this park has. It's a real shame that it's not incredibly common to see the park in that context.

I hope they replace the decorative tarps soon after EU. I really like the colors and patterns on them peeking through the trees. When I was there within the first year or so I saw some of the smaller hanging elements already fading in the sun so I imagine they're sun bleached white for sure at this point.

The pictures of the volcano looks like those shots of an area before and after a drought. They need to get that waterfall back to its original state.

I think VB could use a decent refurbishment soon. Still looks great, but you can tell the park is getting older now.

We were there last Saturday and I said "let's go see Vol." My girlfriend said "uhh, they got rid of him like a month ago." She doesn't pay attention to theme park stuff nearly as much as I do and I hadn't heard of this at all. I did a quick google and couldn't find anything about this. We walked over and sure enough, no projections were going and the water feature wasn't even on.

Later I had a drink with a friend from entertainment and he confirmed Vol isn't a thing anymore.
