Yeah Universal wants the crowds there. I imagine almost every NBC owned news show will be airing from Epic for the first week - and they're going to want people there.

Well, time ran out for my family. We had to lock in airline tickets and travel days for vacation requests. So we just booked a trip to Switzerland and Germany instead of Epic (from the west coast). Couldn't wait any longer for the tickets/vacation we wanted (2 days at Epic plus a day each at USF and IOA). We're going to Europa-Park instead, which has always been on my list! I'll enjoy watching the videos of Epic opening days.

Feels like the 90 day mark was a lot of folks’ cutoff for waiting for additional ticket types.

I'm starting to get there too. I was planning on going this summer for my birthday, but I don't want to book a hotel without having tickets and there's no point in visiting parks I've quite literally spent a year and a half of my life in. I got so many other places I want to visit.

There are other things to consider like changes in our economy, that may impact vacation budgets. Waiting too long is even more foolish when inflation is still fairly hot.

Yes, but they also don't want every video and picture to show the walkways slammed full of people. "look how crowded that is" can be a deterrent for people booking trips. I think I'd say they have a target capacity for opening week they want to hit that is well below capacity.

A "controlled" chaos, so to speak.

The insane lines for Potter at IOA and USF were far different as they are 1 land in 1 park that’s new, as well as it being a bit of milestone for UOR. This is an entire new park, with 5 lands, they don’t want it to look like insanity like the other openings looked like.

I won't be making it down after opening till july, but I already have my flight and hotel locked in so I have a bit of ticket anxiety.

With the caveat that I know everyone's situation is different - Universal's hotel cancellation policy is pretty lenient, with a full refund if canceled a week before the scheduled check-in date.

I just hope the tickets go on sale this week. If not this week I give up on speculating when they'll drop

remember when hagrid opened to three hour lines and bob chapek started talking smack? anyway, i've never heard anyone clown universal about hagrid's opening while chapek is basically a verb meaning "to suck out loud" at this point.

I already paid a premium for AP tickets for Epic to visit twice in June while staying at Terra Luna. When buying the tickets I was surprised that 2nd week of June had full availability

Best thing he did was the green light for Deadpool and Wolverine I think and that’s about it.

As someone with their "finger on the pulse," as far as sales go, we're looking pretty pale. And if i'm speaking from JUST my agency, that does just as much UOR as it does WDW, that ratio is pretty darn drastically different right now; And for a year where UOR is opening a NEW PARK, that simply doesn't look or feel good to anyone, really. The optics are all over the place. Sure, Fall sales are still coming in, but wasn't the point of opening this park in MAY to get things good for the Summer? Yeah, no. They've royally messed that up for the General Admissions crowd.

WE, as nerds who are committed to going(EDIT: and have packages/hotels holding), who go to forums to talk about how excited we are to go, are going to go no matter what, BUT the GA is NOT. And UOR is LOSING the GA by not releasing this stuff! It's not dire, not for you(EDIT: Brian), not even really for me as a TA, but it SHOULD BE dire for UOR because they REALLLLLLY missed the boat on this one. For PEAK summer sales, you book between Thanksgiving and Superbowl. Those two dates are when people plan these things. Families sit down over the holidays and talk about Summer vacay. Couples go into the new year and want to put deposits down on vacations and honeymoons. 6 MONTHS OUT is a genuine rule of thumb and man... if WE'VE lost sales because of this, other agencies have lost sales because of this, and UOR has mos def lost sales because of this. Those June and July out-of-staters are going to be mostly gone by now, they've booked elsewhere because no one else is making them WAIT to do so; Convenience meets the path of least resistance.

It's not dire, but it is dumb and i'm worried Universal decision makers are the only people who don't know that; I.e. the same people who chose to release a commercial for their new park AFTER the superbowl was already over.

Their ticketing strategy is putting out of state visitors on ice for 2025. Rather than a "what are they doing??" situation...I'm starting to wonder if Universal wants to intentionally shift attendance from 2025 to 2026. The theory would be that opening mid-year, they can't score Wall Street satisfying attendance given it would be partial year. 2025 is a scrub number, mostly meaningless. What Comcast may want is a blockbuster 2026 full-year attendance number to validate their investment and strategy.

I was thinking this way for a while, but you know what puts a sour taste in my mouth?
The idea that "When are 2025 tickets going to drop?" is going to become "When are 2026 tickets going to drop?"

It's obvious we're not seeing the full picture, and i hope i'm wrong, but you need 2025 metrics to inform 2026 metrics for something on this scale and well, i think we're going to see some WONKY numbers moving forward because of this. If EVERYONE is delaying going in 2025 because of something as simple as "i wasn't able to book Summer 2025 when i wanted" all the way to "i was always planning on going in Summer 2026 because it will be too busy in 2025," it makes 2026 feel like a timed bomb in comparison

Let's hope the future roll-out is handled better, right?

I don't think anyone is 'canceling'. I think anyone trying to go within the first two months is 100% committed. If you are planning a trip for the first few months, you either think it will be very crowded and don't care about that or you think it won't be crowded at all and aren't worried about securing tickets ahead of time

Beyond that, I'll reiterate that I think Universal doesn't want insanely crowded parks at first. More possibility for issues and bad reviews.

Canceling? No, but there is a third option: The people who WOULD'VE booked at UOR are now, instead, booking for WDW and saying "We'll just add an epic ticket later." They're GIVING Disney business with this strategy. It's actually funny, in hindsight.

A bunch of great points here. I know several people in the travel agency business. I trust their opinions more than anybody. What they are telling me is that people are seriously about thinking cancelling their trips and doing something else instead.

It's not that difficult,

Book 1 Day at Epic, get Universal Studios Florida for only $65 more.
Book 2 Days at Epic, get an IOA/USF park to park ticket for only $75 more, etc.

I don't know about "no matter what." I'm a huge west coast theme park nerd that's been following Epic practically hourly, and I was ready to take my family of four to Universal Orlando for the first time. (My family is the business case-study of what building Epic was all about...acquiring new-to-Universal families for long UOR visits/hotel stays) But as I said in an earlier post, we gave up and made other plans.

This ticketing situation went from excusable (Nov.), to inconvenient (Dec.), to a bit frustrating (Jan.), to un-empathetic and manipulative (Feb.), to...they just must not want us to come (if this goes into March).

I just don't understand the thought process behind not opening up the ticket floodgates. Why are they worried about cannibalizing the other parks so much? People will go to IOA no matter what because of Potter and Marvel, USF has two major events coming up in HHN and Christmas, and a decent chunk of people purchase park to park tickets anyways. Like does a slight temporary decrease in USF/IOA attendance even matter when you're getting the money from Epic anyways?
