No inside info either but I could see them making the decision to extend Monsters Inc.’s life so they could punt the decision a bit longer.

I would imagine if Avatar 3 ends up being the last installment in the franchise, it would give Disney pause to start working on a land that would take 3ish years to turnaround.

You have to remember that even though Avatar land at Animal Kingdom came almost smack dab in the middle of the 13 years in between movies, it wasn’t Disney’s IP. So the success of the movie and the theme park land weren’t intrinsically tied together as it is now.

All this to say I think the decision on Avatar 4 and Avatar Land will come in tandem.

The fact they filed permits this week pertaining to Monster's demolition though shows they aren't really punting the decision. There is a near zero chance they start the process to move forward without concrete plans in place for the location, and the current known timeline of events simply doesn't lend itself to a completely different land to have been designed for the space, even if it is a version of Zootopia from Shanghai.

And the Avatar 4 & 5 talk is rehashed. We already knew they were looking at ways to reduce the budget. We've known it since Cameron himself started talking about it during the Fire and Ash press tour kickoff last November. The Wrap's source is a vague 'insider' who is giving no new information that hasn't been shared by Cameron himself for the last 6 months. Hell, I could have called up the writer and given him the exact same information and I am for sure no insider . So it's baffling that it's being spun the way it is, especially after only a week and a half ago Avatar's producer Rae Sanchini confirmed work was "full speed ahead" on the next films and they were already developing computer tech to help speed up production and cut costs overall.

I’ve since exited my sudden, borderline supernatural daily-rewatches-of-all-three-movies Avatar obsession of December 25’, but this is literally the only thing I’ve been excited for from Disney Parks in years. Every time I think I can’t hate them more, they find a way

I just can't wait for Avatar to open...people be really impressed and still pretend like the C ticket dark ride we lost was better then the new E ticket.

Sorry to say it, but if they do Zootopia instead, I'm prioritizing a DCA trip just for it.

Another Restaurant in DCA?

No thanks, we need more to do there and food is good

Like if they want to make it happen us other space like the old Tron Arcade or Have the Q and Restaurant mix like Pirates but Philhar for me works, we need places to do something but also take a break and one less show....just right now makes little sense for another place to eat when there is what 20+ places to eat in DCA already plus many events where they add extra food to the park

Also I'm down for this to become something new, an Avatar Show, Muppets anything but another place to eat

IIRC the concept art showed the old Hollywood and Dine structure repurposed for Avatar, that will probably be the lands eatery. I don't think Disney sees long term value in Philiarmagic sticking around due to audiences being near empty, but I think (and hope) they want to put a D ticket in the plot. Probably some sort of simulator could fit?

They should just bring back Muppet Vision. No reason to sacrifice a theater for a restaurant.

I would love to see the animation building be taken over by PhilharMagic on one half and the other half being used as an animation interactive area for the show’s lobby.

I'm down with it becoming anything but a Shop or place to eat....we are more then good on both

But DCA needs more attractions whatever that is

Theater attractions never draw or drew well at DLR. I find it hard pressed Disney wants to have a land with just one attraction. that's not their MO these days.

This is why my mind keeps circling back on the notion of Philiarmagic being earmarked for a D ticket Avatar attraction when the land opens or a phase 2 down the line.

Like I said I'm down for a new attraction

I mean...they won't but I'd be down for like something like a walkthrough attraction....like D&D but in Avatar but Disney hates paying for people to do things so won't happen but I'd be very down for Disney to use smaller spaces to make walkthrough attractions with actors in stuff like Avatar, Marvel and Star Wars

Thought this was worth noting. It appears that, at least for now, the death of Avatar at DCA has been greatly exaggerated. Though the use of "Experience" and not "Themed Area" nor "Attraction" is interesting.

My wild card for D23 is Avatar is one of the headliners for a 3rd gate.

Avatar, Lion King (with an Animal Kingdom/Explorers lodge hotel attached), Toy Story Land (with a hotel attached), Mystic Manor (park’s icon), Frozen, etc.

They have a lot of ideas already out there in the world that can fit a 3rd gate in an Epic Universe style experience. The hotels will act as a berm

I think if they want to double down on it for DCA—they vocally bring it up at D23.

If it’s not vocally doubled down, then it’s time to ask questions.

Permits have been filed with the city of Anaheim for a bit with Avatar going into HL. I think the reason why its being referred to as an "experience" rather then a land is because of the size being more on the smaller end. I'm hoping that they will announce a second D or C ticket to go along with the E ticket boat ride.

I mean it was never a real runner just fans

Like I get it, I’d love Zootopia but it’s not like Avatar will be a bad area and ride

Avatar Experience: Disneys' answer to Universal. Instead of turning people into Minions.....they'll turn Disney fans into giant Avatars. ;)

I mean Zootopia could still come to DCA as the first phase of Simba. But IMO I think Zootopia might be destined for the third DAW land post Lion King. I say that because trusted WDW insider Marni1971 said the post LK land to DAW will not be water based which would make an Avatar land tricky to do considering how much water is central to the IP.
