I really would doubt that the theme park rights situation in Florida has any effect on the plans for the movies. Any profit to be eked out by Disney with whatever they would be able to accomplish Marvel-wise in WDW has to be a drop in the bucket compared to the box office receipts and merchandise sales generated by Guardians and Avengers crossing over.

I don't really agree with that. GotG is very popular, The Avengers is very popular, but the fact that they are crossing over will have little effect on the box office receipts or merchandise. Infinity Wars is already going to be massive, as is any merch regardless if GotG is involved and GotG merch itself is already massively popular.

Doesn't matter as The Guardians are necessary to the Infinity Wars story as they have one of the Infinity Stones. The movie would be incomplete without them.

I know that. I wasn't trying to argue against the crossover, just that I don't think it'll have an impact of ticket sales and merch. People have gotten to the point where they expect the crossovers in Marvel films.

If there was a GotG meet and greet in WDW already with no recourse then......?

And we really think Disney would not vet this before getting months away from a possible closure for re-theme.....?

They can be used, have been used, and may be used in near future. Sorry

I'd like to think Disney runs things by legal early on, but I have a feeling they do not. The only evidence I have to over as examples are:

They built those Tigger bouncy pads in the queue that I think anyone looking at the idea new it was a bad one. I think it was open for about an hour before being closed and later removed.

Not long after that, they put in the water area in NFL where it was clear that the design was to allow kids in the cab of Casey's engine, then they enclosed it in
plexiglass and put up railings or a gate or something before they opened it.

Anyway, those are a couple of instances I recall that made me thing that Disney might not bring legal in early at all on some of their ideas.

The whole "They wanted Hyperspace Mtn, so let's give em Guardians ToT!" thing cracks me up. Hyperspace makes sense. Some may not like it because they are conservative regarding anything Disney, but they definitely are aware that it makes some iota of sense. And you'd hope all the complaints from the "uber Disney fans" about Hyperspace coming to WDW would know that the two versions of the ride are wildly different. I know what Jim is saying about IASW having the characters but Disney was pretty upfront about the details, and to me it didn't sound too bad before it was implemented. The overlay he's talking about sounds SO dopey and idiotic, I'm sorry, it really does. Nothing about it makes sense, and even with his descriptions it does not.

If it's temporary, that's cool but I don't see people loving it "cuz I AM GROOT". If it's a prison then why the hell is there a window? Why is it a hotel? None of this makes a tiny bit amount of sense and doesn't sound like fun. I'm with Len on this that Disney and Chapek have the wrong idea with those complaints. They want those overlays, not JUST overlays.

Please don't even come to DCA and die on a projects board in Glendale. Try again, please.

I think the whole idea of GotG coming to both DCA and DHS has a lot to do with development costs. Overlaying TOT in California but RnRC in DHS would mean developing two completely different overlays which equals more money. While TOT in DHS is more elaborate than it is in DCA, a pretty good amount of the development would still cross over saving them more money than it would take to overlay completely different ride types.

Wait. I have an idea. Disney could just build a whole NEW attraction based on GOTG. They could put it in one of the many areas that could use a new attraction, like the Captain EO theaters on both coasts. Now there's no need to ruin one of their best and most beloved attractions with an overlay that makes zero thematic sense! Someone should tell them.

If the cost for the IP's use is part of Disney's equation, neither building a new ride nor overlaying RnRC would help Disney (I'm assuming there is truth to the contract for use is up for renewal, Viacom wants more than Disney wants to offer, and Areosmith doesn't get as much as the new cost to Disney to use The Twilight Zone.

I certainly do not see how GotG fits with a 30's hotel ( as I can't imagine Disney would want to mess with the outside of the building. I do wonder how much Disney would need to change the concept of the elevator ride to avoid the IP holder trying to sue that they kept enough of the story from the episode the ride is currently based off.

Reading the parts of the contract that were posted in this thread, seeing the park about use of any characters from any of Marvel's families of companies (I assume this can't relate to Disney as they are now the parent and I imagine the courts would view the contract as meaning child companies)...wouldn't it be funny if Comcast could turn this on them and get to use Star Wars.

It's not based on an episode. It's a story made exclusively for the attraction featuring a spot on Rod Serling impression.

Some of it is an impersonator, but some of it is repurposed from an episode about a hotel.

There is no episode this attraction is based on. You can look it up yourself.

The part where he points to the elevator is taken from a real episode. But Serling is actually saying "behind me is a map" but they use the real line and cut it at the m sound and dub the rest.

This video shows the preshow then the episode his line is pulled from.
