I can't see them closing it for more than a few days or a few weeks at most for a real short refurb. The park has capacity issues & Fallon's capacity will be nowhere near Mummy's capacity. F&F is 16-18 months away. They need that kind of capacity to shut anything major down for a long time period. Just my guess though.

I would think that UOR would be marketing Kong, VB, Hulk, and Fallon heavily; so that way, they can divert guests to those other experiences to allow something like Mummy revamp to occur for Orlando..

I caught the today show a couple of times this past week and they are still promoting contests to win a trip to UOR. During the yap, they show a ton of promotional pics. A few days ago, they were promoting Sapphire Falls. So, they are marketing.

This doesn't distill me with confidence in the films quality..but, I am open to see what could happen; as I hope it's tolerable..

Right now it's just lacking in any redeeming production design or art style. It looks like every other flat, digital photography blockbuster out there... the original had that sandy, orange hue along with striking, never-before-seen visuals of a sand face, warrior mummies, thousands of scarabs...

I don't know if this going down before Fallon would be feasible at all. But Horror Make-Up Show should definitely get a refresh with a tie-in to the new movie.

Seen and own both. They're clearly gunning for the 90's Fraser Mummy with the action/horror hybrid, so I compared it thusly. Original film is parlor business and far too removed from the current "cinematic universe" attempt.

Per the director,

Because the 1932 Karl Freund The Mummywas itself a contemporary film, Kurtzman immediately knew that he didn’t want to again approach the franchise in the way that director Stephen Sommers did with 1999’s The Mummy.

“[We asked ourselves] ‘What would it be like if we took a real monster and put that monster in our world?,”” Kurtzman continues. Kurtzman continues. “Not in a fake world, but our world. What would that be like? How would it react to us, and how would we react to it? I think that the question of where magic and science meet has always been something that interested me… [O]ne of the things that I loved about The Mummy — that was very unique to both the Mummy and to Dracula — was that the Mummy had the power to mesmerize. Karloff had the power to mesmerize. He could get in your head, he could make you do sh-t. And that was really scary.”

Fraser is a campfest more so than action/horror.The modern day approach makes it more likely for a ride revamp and for them to lose the stupid haunted movie set theme.

The director's head is in the right place, and I'm definitely interested in the movie. That doesn't negate what I said about production/artistic design. If this is to become a multi-film behemoth, these films need to stand out and be memorable. Blending into the bland digital photography scenery will not accomplish that.

I definitely agree that ditching the stupid haunted movie set theme is a good idea. That said, don't hold your breath on losing the camp/humor... the new script has a lot of it, it's just not in the trailer.

What do we really expect is going to happen to ROTM. I would like to think they would wait to see how well the movie does in the box office before changing the entire ride to match the movie more. I honestly expect it to be just a small tie in for the movie. (New movie specific Merchandise and signage like they did for JW)

If they end up scrapping mummy I hope they atleast keep the same ride system, USF has wayyyyyy too many "flying theatre" rides and other 3d nonsense. Honestly the only reason I even go to universal sometimes is for mummy (and harry potter of course)

Not to harp... but this is exactly why I'm concerned. This trailer features golden hues, a distinct visual style drawn from and inspired by the dozens of Mummy-centric films that came before it (in and out of Uni). We see tons of egyptology and unique visuals - the aforementioned sand face, the rotting hand reaching out of the sand, Imhotep in his priest robes unhinging his jaw...

The closest thing to a unique visual in the reboot trailer is the double-iris, and we've seen similar effects in other films. As HR points out, for this Gods & Monsters universe to gel, they need to own the iconography of their origins, not shy away from them. That means rotting corpses, bandages, and egyptology galore.

I remember the old super hero movies and tv shows. They go back a long way. The new ones are a huge success to current movie goers and don't resemble the original visuals.
Universal is trying to build a similar multi movie franchise like Disney did. Their more authentic efforts didn't go well so I get why they do it and I for one love it. Finally a mummy movie that is scary again, not an Indiana Jones clone.
