Are you referring to a very recent sale? I know it was confirmed recently when Artegon was put on the market that they both still owned the land. The Orange County website still lists them as the owner.

I would guess that buying out the three tenants shouldn't be too difficult and (relatively) inexpensive. There's not much incentive for them to stay there if the mall is sitting there dead. They could easily move their locations to other properties or other location on the same property to clear the way for bigger development which would just increase their business.

There are plenty of stand alone Bass Pros near outlet malls. Even if the mall was razed, it is still very close to the outlets. If it is Herchend, and I doubt it, there's a good chance it blends. They have partnered with Dolly, they could Partner with Johnny. Johnny was throwing around the idea of partnering with Buffet in turning Mud Island in Memphis into a Margaritaville type attraction last summer. He is pulling down stupid money (for what is) for the rooms at the Pyramid store.

More I think about it the more it sounds plausible. Bass Pro and Herschend in partnership.

He has the store, he has a hotel and timeshares in Branson may help to have some in Orlando as a one/two punch to help sale the Branson ones. Herchend provides the management of an indoor/outdoor theme/water park, ect

Ok, I'm going to go deeper into this Bass Pro/Herschend angle.

Looking at Google Earth, Bass Pro already has the perfect placement in relationship to the outlets. No need to touch that store. If you were going to develop an overall resort, the movie house is a cornerstone of that. I could see Ron Jon stay but iffy. Having watched Bass Pro transform the 22,000 seat Pyramid Arena into a store/hotel in Memphis, a huge mall with lots of open space and modular shell in shape would seem easy to convert some wings into rooms/timeshare units and meeting halls with the common walk spaces done with creeks and stuff, think Gaylord in Nashville.

Bass Pro Memphis Pyramid view from top of observation deck elevator:

Notice hotel cabin rooms overlooking middle

You tweak the existing parking to save dollars.

That block of woods to the south, is that part of this?
That screams ready made landscaping for an outdoor theme park with the "in the wild" feel with all those pines.

Run a massive coaster over the retaining ponds

Part of your entertainment/retail area would include things like Toby Kieth's I love this Bar chain and so on and so forth

I thought the latest rumor is FDT is taking over the land for highway use? Also is highway use something that can be claimed through eminent domain? I thought eminent domain is for security reasons only

Are you sure you're not thinking of Crossroads?

Nope, but a quick search shows that to be true: Crossroads plaza faces demolition for Disney-area road project - Orlando Sentinel

Hadn't heard about highway use, only Crossroads. But I could've missed it, trying to keep up with development around MouseTown is impossible.

Highway use is a huge one, and one of the few I think legitimate. It's a contested issue, but a lot of cities also cite "economic development." Basically the new owner will pay more taxes. For example, my mentor had a case once, some orange-skinned real estate developer tried to have New Jersey eminent domain an old lady's home so he could build a parking lot for his new casino--the argument being casino would pay more taxes. Wonder what ever happened to that guy.

Probably a moot point anyway. Cinemark and RonJon aren't going to survive in an otherwise dead mall. Bass Pro the only one to buy out, or maybe co-op. The store is basically a mini theme park already.

ETA: honestly best thing RonJon could do is convince I-Drive 360 they both need each other (an iconic store with billboards everywhere would help the shopping scene under the Eye), negotiate a sweetheart deal on rent.

I'm not sure that Artegon closing will be all that different for them. If their business relied on traffic from the mall they would have been out of business a long time ago. I would think the mall closing would have a very minimal if any effect at all.

I can see a mini-CityWalk entrance to the park with the Theater and Bass as anchors...

Yeah, more specifically, Herschend Family Entertainment.

I have heard that they are one of the interested parties for this project. They have had tremendous success with A Smoky Mountain Christmas at Dollywood, and they want to take it to a destination resort concept.

I love the concept. It's different enough, big name and a great location. I think they could do very well.

Dollywood knows how to do Christmas. Also Orlando doesn't cater target the christian market much at all sans Sea World ocasionally and special concerts. Well the holy land experience prob doesn't have any real pull.

That's one way to appeal mostly to a locals crowd.
