And by Disaster, you mean hitting capacity every day. Right?

The park opened with some major issues, that's true. Now they just seem to be struggling with how popular it is.

I do have a question for those who have gone.

I know you have to leave your shoes for the slides- are there any that you can wear shoes on? Water shoes or crocs or something? The water coaster maybe?

My youngest is JUST at 42". Maybe even 41.5ish. We go next month. She can ride 42" rides here at six flags with just regular tennis shoes (no thick bottom or "napkins"). So a legitimate 42"- so will be able to do gringots, MiB, etc because she'll have shoes on. But she won't be 42" on shoeless water rides unless she grows half an inch in a month. Possible, but unlikely.
So with that said- if she can ride the water coaster with crocs on or something, that'd be great news.

You can wear them on the rivers on the coaster. i actually wore crocs (yeah, yeah, simmer down :P i HATE sand in my shoes!).

Those rides though, in fact, do not have the stow-away nets for shoes. After our first ride on Krakatau, my 10-yr-old said he did not like my shoes all up in his armpits. As we immediately rode again during "ride now" time, i asked the TM what to do w/ my shoes and she said just put them in the dirt bed by the entrance. Did that on the fearless river as well.

Tim Tracker in general is really positive but the fact he left the park after 3 hours tells the story. Huge lines for every ride, wave pool crammed, massive queue to get in the lazy river...awful wait times for food still.

As for the capacity.. I still think it's handling fewer guests than it's supposed to.

Broken down rapid river certainly helped make the crowds worse.
He also said it was the busiest he's ever seen it.

I don't.
I think it's a matter of it being too popular more than it is anything universal is doing. At this point, they're fully staffed and trained. Food is streamlined. Rides aren't breaking down like they used to (except rapid river that video). And yet they're still packed to the gills. It's basically Christmas everyday there right now.

Honestly, what can Universal do about efficiency at this point to make capacity even bigger? It's not a Tapu Tapu issue. It's just too popular.

Now, hindsight? They certainly could have done more to handle capacity. Examples- Instead of a 4 lane mat racer, have a 6 or 8 lane. Instead of one coaster, have 2 side by side. And for oh ya/oh no- run 4 instead of 2.
Outside of those adds, I don't know what else- capacity wise- they could have done.

That all said, the expansion should've started yesterday. It certainly needs it for next summer.

Yeah, Tim doesn't tend to spend more than three or four hours at a park. Just pop in and out to get a gander at what's new or whatever the topic of discussion for the day is.

Am I the only one that thinks they need some sort of obstacle course/ adult water playground in the new expansion?

I love that idea. It has to be with deep water though. I remember something like that at WhiteWater in Grand Prairie Texas. That was such a sweet park with really good water rides. It was better than the Wet N Wild/Hurricane Harbor further down the freeway. Too bad it only lasted a few years.

All they really need is a people-eater water coaster, a multi-slide tower, another restaurant, and something else for people to do without waiting

Was just on the Universal website looking at park hours for next week and saw that they are offering Early Park Admission for hotel guests that starts at 7:30 AM!? Didn't realize it was that early. Has anyone been there for the early admission?

I think it's been upped to 230lbs. I'm sure somebody else will be able to confirm.

It is still 230 lb for Kala Tai Nui Serpentine slides last I checked.

As seen in the official Accessibility Guide:

vb-230-limit.jpg

EDIT: Note that the other drop slide in the Volcano is still 300 lb limit as well, Ko’okiri Body Plunge.

I just can't believe that untested they sold APs for Volcano Bay. I would have held off because I'm sure a LOT of the capacity problems are caused by AP holders coming back time after time (and complaining loudly about it each time).

That's probably what saw the increase this weekend. One of the last weekends of summer plus first weekend for a lot of passholders since June.

I agree. I think it needs to become a "limit 4 visits per pass April-September" situation or unlimited with premium for 2018. Charge the 100 bucks- which makes it $25/visit or something to that affect. But I agree @GAcoaster - that is certainly something they didn't consider.
