Not a surprise. Even though we've done quite well up here in Canada on the Covid front, our restrictions still don't allow for any fans at games. The TV deals we have are nowhere near like the $ that NFL makes so really it's cheaper (i.e. less losses) to not play than playing to empty stadiums.

UNC-Chapel Hill Shutting down in-person classes only a week after they began. Right decision, but not good news for other schools around the country.

This has sports impacts as well. As of now, they are saying they still expect to play Fall Sports, but if it's not safe enough for In-person Classes, but you are making the student athletes still come in, then they are not being treated like a normal student.

If you ask Student Athletes to come in but have shut down the campus because of COVID, then you are now treating that student as a professional athlete because you need TV revenue. It's well-past time that Student athletes get a union formed and have some sort of seat at the table. Like, NFL players are getting paid between $150K and $350K to NOT play this year and the NCAA wants these players to play for free during a pandemic? It's well past time the NCAA got checked.

Sad but not surprising that they're still pushing on the players to play. Indeed the "student athletes" need some form of union to look out for the best interests of the athletes. They've really needed one for a long time, now it's just more highlighted how much it's desperately needed.

The rise of drive-in haunted houses/experiences as a response to covid is pretty interesting imo. I just saw this pop up on my FB feed: Stranger Things: Drive-Into Experience

I wonder if these will stick around in a post-covid world?

FWIW, yesterday the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority gave preliminary approval to a fiscal year 2021 budget for MCO reduced 25% from FY20, based on projections of their air traffic being down about 50% from FY20 (October-September).

MCO noticed in an email to unemployment that 800+ food and service workers currently furloughed would be terminated in October if they are not called back by then.

After taking massive pay cuts due to the struggles surrounding the global pandemic, executives at Fox and the Walt Disney Company are reportedly getting their original pay restored.

According to Deadline, “the temporary pay cuts, which Fox imposed due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the entertainment industry, ended July 31 as originally planned. The Disney temporary salary reductions, which had been open-ended, will be lifted starting August 23.”

Execs from both companies were reportedly notified via internal emails.

Glad to hear the executives are taken care of. We know they are the ones who are really struggling during this pandemic.

They still haven't even brought back all the furloughed employees and the economic situation hasn't improved. They're trying to get as much cash out for themselves while poor people are struggling before the situation gets worse. It's gross. Capitolism is disgusting.

You need to have the people you are counting on to bring the company out of this to feel like they are valued. Restore their pay and work 'em like dogs and see how many get "consolidated" at the end. In the meantime you pay as agreed, they have families too.

The cut was a show move but restoring the pay is expected. The company has plenty of money for at least a year.

I didn't think I'd be saying this but I'm actually considering booking a holiday for later in the year, some deals are proving to be incredibly tempting.

All inclusive in Croatia, staying at a Hilton hotel. £550 including flights.

Basically staying in King's Landing.

How’s that trip to Croatia sound now Scott? Saw on the news that it is banned from travel to the UK now.

There's a good amount of European nations banned now....Talked to our friend from the UK, Mark, the other day. He was called back to work at the airport last week. But, he says it's very slow, with few flights.

Looking at the Touring Plans crowd calendar daily results, that sure appears to be the case at this point in time. Of course, ticket discounts are probably the largest driver of this. Disney is still incredibly difficult, and confusing, to plan for.
It's almost like they don't want anyone to come. The report's Disney data seems to be off though. From reports on various web sites it's probably the complete opposite of what those Deutch Bank analysts are speculating.MK &
DHS busiest of the WDW parks instead of the least busy.

It doesn’t help matters that the reservation system has made impromptu visits virtually impossible AND Disney is more expensive anyway.

Reservation spots have been opening up the week before, and you can book a reservation the day of this week... But WDW has trained us to plan so far in advance now that no ones probably even checking.

I think Disney finally realized they need to over book the parks in the hopes that the number they wanted show up. My understanding is that not all who booked were showing up (sometimes by quite a large margin), so the parks were far emptier than intended. I don't know if it was people getting cold feet at the last minute, or travel plans falling through, or what, but they were missing their daily attendance goals despite having all reservation slots full.

Yeah, I know things are getting better over the past few weeks, but for about the first month of WDW being open at least, it was impossible to go whenever you wanted. I know I personally got so frustrated with the Park Pass system that, like you said, I have just stopped checking.

Of course I sort of don't really care for the parks at this point and time either now that i've been back, but WDW has trained people a certain way since they reopened (and with everything else like restaurant and FP+ reservations normally) that I just give up. If I were to go to the parks, at least I know that I can get into Universal. I can't say the same about Disney - which to me is dumb, because if I show up without a reservation at DHS at around 4:00pm, are they REALLY not gonna let me in when the park is probably empty? It's just dumb.
