I loved Nightingales so I'm all for it returning with a new time period. First was WW1, then the Roman Empire.... Just imagine them doing the Dark Ages with the creatures taking the form of large rats to represent the black plague. It makes sense story-wise because the creatures prey on the weak and dying.

I'd personally like to skip any plague related houses for a year or two. Thx.

I think putting them in something like the Great White concert fire would be fun.

I think something like that may be too recent for an HHN house based on it. The concept of Nightingales (I’m assuming that’s what you meant by “them”) only works in situations that have some historical background to them (WWI, Gladiators) but were so long ago that nobody relates much to the events on a personal level. I mean, I know some people kinda frowned on Nightingales taking place in WWI. The Great White Concert Fire happened in 2003, I don’t think it’s old enough for us to try to flip it for entertainment when there are some families that are probably still experiencing loss from it.

On the flip side though, I do see what you mean. An HHN house with the Nightingales in a crowded, chaotic environment are always fun and I do love fire themes in HHN houses (the smell and lighting is always gorgeous). I just think we’d need to find a new event that is old as hell and is broad enough that the writers have enough material to work with. I’d recommend The Great Fire of London. It happened in 1666 and it would vibe better with Nightingales.

Anyways, sorry for the semi-long spiel and sorry if you were just using the Great White Concert as an example and not a suggestion lol. It’s hard to understand people’s intentions with what they’re sayin online.

The Nightingales come around in times of pain and death, right? They pretend to be nursemaids and whatnot. So put them in the middle of a modern tragedy - the Great White nightclub fire was top of my mind because I'm collecting the Black Flame/New Line tie in novels, and there was a Final Destination one that used it as the big premonition set piece to better effect than the setups in the last several FD movies - dress them up like EMTs and you're off to the races.

And obviously you wouldn't ACTUALLY use Great White - hands up if you dopes thought I intended to use "Once Bitten Twice Shy" :) - but a nightclub fire would certainly be acceptable. Hell, look at Buffy or any of the "freak of the week" CW shows - they're ripping fro. the headlines in every episode.

Were there problems with the old masks that led to them being changed?

Ah, I see. Wasn't sure if you meant that as an example or a straight up idea for a house.

Yeah, I think basing a house directly off of the Great White tragedy would be way too recent. Even if they made a house on that concept and tried their best to distance themselves from any implication that's what it was based on, I do think it may be a little too soon.

They were old and, frankly, a little cheesy.

Too bad they ruined Central Park as a zone venue. If they could still put the “barn” structure, the Battle of Saratoga (Revolutionary War) would be a shoe-in!

Speaking of fire

I always thought throwing the Nightingales in the great San Fran earthquake of 1906 would be fun

Imagine weaving in and out of destroyed buildings, busted water pipes, etc

They could even have some shaky floor effects in there as aftershocks and of course the slanted floor

You're going to love Puppet Theatre then. (I know they don't say it outright but c'mon--"around the turn of the 20th century...in San Francisco.")

The Battle of Saratoga, but just make it horses fighting and brony’s trying to stop them. Now that’s horror.

Fully realizing this is "speculation and rumors" for a reason, in an attempting to aggregate dozens of pages here: is there any reason to believe HHN will be radically different this year? Totally acknowledge there may not be fishing lines and similar sensory experiences, but curious if anyone has a speculative summary of what's likely to be different.

Basically just trying to decide if 2021 is worth a trip or if I put all my eggs in a 2022 basket.
