Don't mean to double post here, but I noticed that the release date for this show got changed to September 21 instead of August 31 and will have a 3-episode premiere rather than a 2-episode premiere, which I didn't notice originally.

There's two reasons I can see for the move. Overlapping Obi-Wan and Ms. Marvel so close to each other didn't work so better to move it back, but a second reason is also probably that the CGI isn't completely finished as She-Hulk will still be airing on September 21 (episode 6 of 9 for She-Hulk will be coming out on the 21st).

Also, by starting the show on September 21st with 3 episodes, that means Andor will run through November 23rd as Disney+'s marquee show for the rest of 2022. After that. Willow starts on November 30th and The Clauses will release around this time, too. Then Secret Invasion likely releases to start off the beginning of 2023. Disney+ will also have a few big movies to end the year such as Pinocchio, Hocus Pocus 2, and Disenchanted.

I've been saying this for a long time, no one listened

Now, The Volume can be used effectively. The way to do it is like The Mandalorian and film almost the whole show on The volume. When you start mixing practical sets with something so obviously fake, it just looks really bad. It's part of why some recent MCU outings have been criticized for questionable CGI as they've been using The Volume on not just their shows, but their movies too.

I do wish they would move away from relying on The Volume though. If the show's budget is going to cost the same using The Volume or using practical sets, why not just go the practical route?

So since Campea jumped the gun yesterday, here's the first reactions since the social media embargo truly lifeted. Based on the reviews, it sounds like something i'm going to love, but it also sounds like a show almost asking to be review bombed while simultaneously not giving a rats ass if that happens or not, which I respect.

Star Wars: Andor First Reactions Arrive Online

Star Wars fans are preparing to return to a galaxy far, far away with the arrival of the franchise’s latest TV series. Andor, a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is releasing three episodes on Disney+ on September 21st. On Thursday night, the social media embargo for the series lifted...

Stayed up to watch this because I was super hyped by the reviews and honestly it did not disappoint AT ALL. Very different kind of feel for a Star Wars project, but totally my kind of show. It does have a little of that Mandalorian feel as both Mando and Cassian are quick with the trigger and the shows are slow burns, but instead of focusing on bounty hunters, this is all about the birth of the rebellion. To be honest though, this feels more like Blade Runner though than anything.

Now i'll warn people in advance that this is a slow burn so there's going to be episodes where there's a lot of dialogue, but not really a ton of action. I love that because the world building in this show is incredible, but some people may think it's boring. To each their own. Not everyone is going to like it.

I genuinely cannot think of something to criticize right now. The tone was perfect, the whole cast was great, the direction, the writing, the music, everything. This is also the best looking Star Wars show and possibly best looking Disney Star Wars project period. The set design is just absolutely great and looks so gritty and real and you can tell that they used the volume only for a very few amount of scenes. It's only three episodes, but if it keeps this up for the whole season/series, but if it holds this quality it will no doubt become my favorite Star Wars show.

I will say I am really glad that we got three episodes though because the first episode was probably my least favorite and left off at a weird place, so waiting a week to get to episode two would've been rough. Where they left off at episode three was just great. I really kinda wish they were just doing four weekly drops of three episodes each since each director did a block of three episodes.

Spoilers/spoilery thoughts:
The Corpos were an extremely interesting (and rather nuanced) police branch I guess of the Empire. The Imperial Officer, Syril (played by Kyle Soller) was extremely well played and I thought you could really see how conflicted he is about the job he holds, yet still feeling the need to push forward and impress by trying to bring back Cassian. They were well written antagonists of the first three episodes too, as I could understand why they were doing what they were doing. It wasn't like they were just doing it for giggles.

All of Diego Luna's stuff was really good. I really wish this was just a show that was going to eventually lead into Rogue One and I didn't know the ending for Cassian, but if you've never seen Rogue One, this show let's you know right away that Cassian is a badass not to be messed with and I like that that those two murders of officers weren't a throwaway, it's literally a central plot point so far.

They did a good job in the three episodes of building out the side characters just enough to where, even though he ratted out Cassian, I still felt for Timm when he was shot and killed (Bix's boyfriend if that's what want to call him even though it looked like they were more like FWB). Bix is great so far too and looking forward to seeing more of her.

Lastly, everything with young Cassian (or should I say Kassa), even not being able to understand the Kenari language, was great and I really liked how and when they integrated those flashbacks.

I watched these yesterday and really enjoyed them. It was a good call that they dropped the first 3 episodes at once, that way the reviews are much more fair (and in this show's case so far, favorable). I can see Andor taking the spot of "favorite Star Wars thing" for most people if the story continues to be good.

I'm going to need the soundtrack from the club location in the first episode, too!

I honestly dont know how they allowed Obi Wan and Fett out....and anyone can compare them to Andor or Mando. Both of these live action shows are leagues and I mean leagues above them and no clue why they didn't slow down and make Fett and Obi wan...feel like this Andor. It feels real and so far doesn't talk down to the audience

What I love about this show is that finally takes Star Wars beyond just about the force, stormtroopers, Jedi, Sith, etc. Sure that’s a big part of it, but it’s not the only thing and this story they’re telling is incredibly interesting to me.

This show is putting the WAR back in Star Wars and telling the story of people living every day lives who helped the Empire rise to power, such as Syril Kam (played by Kyle Soller), and those who helped build the Rebel Alliance to fight back.

So far, it seems to be headed in a direction of telling a fairly nuanced story that will probably show many of the every day people taking up the side of the Empire and why/how they chose to believe in that cause. I see Cassian potentially as a grey zone character during this time who will work with (but wants nothing to do with) the Rebel Alliance based on what we know of his general attitude during Rogue One.

The Senate stuff should be good and I wonder if we’ll get a look at Palpatine during this period in time while we’re there.

I think it will be like Rogue One (and already seems to be trending that way), to where it will be many people's favorite Star Wars thing and it will also be many people's least favorite Star Wars thing. People who like a more rich drama, good world building, compelling characters, etc.

If your idea of Star Wars is anything lightsabers, hearing people say "May the Force be with you" a million times, Dave Filloni Star Wars which crosses over from the animated shows, and R2D2/C3PO cameos, then you aren't going to really enjoy this as much.

if this is any star war’s fans least favorite show they clearly never watched Star Wars resistance
Also I really don’t know how any fan could not love this
The world feels real, the dialogue feels natural even when they are even doing expository dialogue and they got the kids actors to speak another language so the acting feels better for that as well

just if you don’t like this star war’s, I hope you stop watching because these are the kinda shows/movies Star Wars needs

I don't know about least favorite, but A LOT of Star Wars youtubers have already gone on the attack. The Den of Nerds dude has already said he's not covering Andor anymore, Star Wars Theory is hating on it (not surprising), and other influencers on twitter talking about how Andor is getting low engagement on Youtube and using that as a reason to attack it.

Like, yeah, it's a prequel to a prequel, based on the most interesting character from Rogue One. Did we absolutely need this? No. Am I glad we're getting it and another season is filming soon? Hell yeah.

Cassian Andor is never going to be as popular as Kenobi and Vader, or likely Boba Fett for that matter. But there's no denying that this show is the best Star Wars content we've gotten since Season 2 of The Mandalorian. Kenobi could've been so much better if they sort of built the world out like this. We knew Kenobi lived just like we know Andor will live after this show. However, this show already has me invested in a lot of the side characters and I don't know what their outcome is. Kenobi never managed to make me care about the side characters.

As long as LucasFilm is giving us good Star Wars shows, I quite frankly don't care what people think

I guess what i'm wondering is if you aren't going to watch this, then what about Skeleton Crew, which is a show with pretty much all original characters as far as I can tell so far (and Jon Watts is the creator on). Or what about The Acolyte, which is being made by Russian Doll creator, Leslye Headleand?

I'm not really expecting either of those shows to have too much connection to the Skywalker Saga or Filoni stuff and if that's the case, I think that's great. You can have your Filoniverse shows (Such as Mando 3 and Ahsoka next year) while also expanding Star Wars beyond the Skywalkers. The Skywalker stuff can be interesting, but with a galaxy so large, we need to keep telling new stories that move us away from that period in time, not stories that constantly feed back to Luke somehow.

He's the least surprising, i'll admit. It must be so exhausting to hate the thing you supposedly love all of the time. Unless of course the Star Wars thing has Luke Skywalker in it. That makes everything better I hear. But only if it's the "right" Luke, because Luke isn't allowed to change!! That Rian Johnson really messed up.

I think all in all, people are enjoying it for the most part. The RT Audience Score so far (with 750 reviews) has Andor at an 82% and a 4.1/5 average rating.

Compare that to Book of Boba Fett and Obi Wan Kenobi. Boba Fett has a rotten 56% audience score on RT with a 3.2/5 average (with 3,483 reviews) and Kenobi has a barely fresh 64% with a 3.5/5 average (on 12,608 reviews).

There's still plenty of Andor left for people to turn against it and for that rating to change, but my point is that a good majority seem to be enjoying it so far and the voices against it are mostly the loud minority. I'm sure some people just simply don't like it though, and that's fine. Like I said in my original thoughts, it's a slow burn and it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. But the people on twitter having a meltdown bc someone said "poop" for the first time in Star Wars or bc there was the first SW booty call need to calm tf down.
