One thing to keep in mind is how much of Disney's profits come from the parks. The parks make up 15% of the company but bring in 33-40% of the profits. The bulk of that comes from WDW. Profit margins at WDW have a BIG impact on the bottom line. That puts a lot of pressure of WDW to keep the profits coming in. Notice how the quarterly reports talk up the regular record profits from Orlando.

Wow...

So MNSSHP only sold out for 3 dates this year, Sept 25th (last night CMs got a discount on tickets) and October 30, 31.

Tickets for October 23, 25, 27 and 28 now have been offered at discount to CMs to try and get the numbers up. The 25th , 27th , 28th are still available if anyone is looking to go last minute.

In comparison about half of last year's dates sold out, with the week before Halloween sold out weeks in advance.

Time to post some guesses on plus/minus attendance percentages for the quarter. Anyone game?

Gotcha. It will be interesting to compare when the time comes. I'm thinking your guesses are close to the actual. I'm thinking similar numbers, except I'm not sure Disneyland is that strong.

DL was up last quarter despite not having Easter in the quarter compared to the previous year. That suggests to me they are having some pretty strong attendance.

This is more off-season for Disneyland... less tourists. For WDW this is typically a fairly busy period with MNSSHP and F&W going on. It's clear F&W is still insanely busy this year from my past experience and going this year, wouldn't know about MNSSHP though.

UO was just about completely booked during HHN many months in advance. And I was looking at Spring 2017 for my trip, and rooms are already becoming scarce during many weeks.

We were referring to the July/August/Sept.quarterly results that are popping up in a few weeks.

Ah, well I would expect DL to be up then as the Diamond Celebration was still going on during that period and was still incredibly popular. The summer months are more tourism heavy for DL, although it was a bit lighter on crowds (when I went) there this year than you would usually expect for July 4th week so who knows.

So I guess we will see, to me, it looked like people were spending a lot of money at the parks in merchandise (60th anniversary, etc), and that's not something I usually notice at WDW. They were constantly out of stock on certain things and I actually had to come back the next day to get what I wanted for a few things.

I know the quarterly reports aren't going to reflect the fall season, but I was looking at wait times for Disneyland recently. Just this past weekened (with several levels of APs blocked out), this is what wait times looked like at 7:30:

Haunted Mansion Holiday - 150 minutes
Tower of Terror - 150 minutes
Racers - 120 minutes
Space Mt. Ghost Galaxy - 120 minutes
Soarin', Star Tours, Midway Mania, Indy - 90 minutes
Peter Pan, Alice, Matterhorn, Pirates - 50 to 60 minutes

This is a resort without MM+ (yet) too, so even though Paint The Night is gone and there's no nightly fireworks show, the crowds have seemingly increased. Lines were nowhere near this when I was there in July.

Halloweentime at DLR is EXTREMELY popular. So just when you thought it was safe to go back to the parks..

It also doesn't cost more to attend just for Halloween.

If I was looking to open a theme park on north I-Drive, this would make me very happy. WDW has lost the local market. (MNSSHP pulls heavily from families who can no longer justify the cost of multiple APs, at least according to my domesticated Dr Phillips friends.)

Combined with the recent rash of discounts, I think we can safely assume AP sales reflect a similar trajectory. Got greedy, priced themselves out of the market.

Actually, it does. Mickey's Halloween Party over there is a special ticketed event, but they've had a lot more sellouts than WDW this year. It's only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for the most part.

In Disneyland's favor for the Party, they debuted a brand new parade this year - their first ever Halloween specific parade. So they took away PTN, but added a parade that you needed to pay extra to see... and naturally, with it being a heavy local base out there, everyone has to be there to see the cool new toy.

Since I don't keep track of this stuff, how many nights does WDW's Halloween party normally sell out?

Did not know that. My cast members friends always got me in for free so I didn't realize you needed another ticket for that.
