I mean, it's a matter of personal taste and/or opinion,
but I'm more pressed by those who said it doesn't belong here, because it belongs here as much as The Weeknd, Ghostbusters, FNAF, The Wyatt Sicks, or even Terrifer
Its has horror roots even tho it's foreign to many

It's my opinion that people who hop into a thread named SPORTS just to say "I don't like sports" deserve eye-roll reaction gifs. lol

But if someone jumped into the sports thread and said, "I don't like basketball", that's fine.

This is more akin to that.

I am excited first and foremost that everyone speculating in this thread predicted this correctly. Point to the online fanatics, haha.

I am also excited to know what will be in DWT, just from an obsessive completionist perspective, so I know what all of the variables for the event are and can start finalizing my gameplan in my head.

Sorry if this was answered earlier - do we think it's just the show on YouTube, ported over and possibly dubbed?

If so, I will skip it (but I am happy for everyone who is more into this than I am). It looks very short - much shorter than Late Night with Chucky, and even shorter than the Blumhouse: Behind the Screams show portion - so I wonder if they will add anything to the experience, or just have it be a quick thing that people can cycle in and out of.

I think the bigger problem is this was designed for a 3D theater... yet it won't be presented in 3D. Same issue the other anime port had.

Sorry to quote myself, but I realize that the highest quality YouTube video is just an excerpt. The full show, which like Blumhouse and Late Night with Chucky includes a standing pre-show for the seated portion in the auditorium, is like 20 minutes long. There is another video on YouTube with the full video, for reference.

Will there be any live element to this, or is it just a 4D screening?

Sounds interesting, I'll give it a go, even though I have no familiarity with anime.

From the article:
"...The film will play “in-language”..."

So is it not dubbed? Will it still be subbed?

Depositing thoughts as someone more in tuned with things (but I will add--I have *not* watched Chainsaw Man. Will do if only to keep myself in check with the characters)

I think the problem with DreamWorks Theater is inevitably a issue that for what HHN Hollywood does, a second "True" Live Show is not optimal for the venue. They do not have the infrastructure or the backspace to make DreamWorks Theater viable for a full on HHN live show that works in context of the event. I also think it is a problem that stems to that of USH especially, of their show writer teams *never truly being the best*.

I kind of wish Orlando helped us more properly on live shows, considering how much we seem to be collaborating, but considering our own limitations as a park (especially after losing two stage venues at the same time for Hollywood Drift), having something in DreamWorks Theater will always be a net win.

Now--what about Chainsaw Man. Thinking about it rationally, I think I kind of said it from the beginning back in January/April of when I had this as my "Prayer Circle" pick of the year, for the sake of a few reasons.

  1. It's likely very much more "Cost Efficient" to port a previously existing show that is from a similar park in the "Pacific Rim Division" in a way that only needs localization/translation work.
  2. The type of show is not far off from that of the Osaka 4D Cinema, to where the conversion rate for Day/night time operations is far more manageable than it would be for the sake of a live show.
  3. There is a market demographic that otherwise would not care about HHN that might be invested into this
  4. Universal and Sony for the parks have continually been more and more wanting to collaborate and work with each other (similar to Paramount), and with Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc releasing domestically in October, and with USH needing to fill in DWT; working with Crunchyroll actually works rather smoothly as a form of promotion.
Should this be dubbed? Quite frankly yes. I have heard for those who did Jujutsu Kaisen that the overall experience was not hampered as much from having to read subtitles, but I do wonder if they could work out a way to get English VO as Crunchyroll's NA teams finish the localization of the film ahead Reze Arc's domestic release.

Is it horror? Define horror to me, because I think we've finally hit a point where with The Weeknd, Fallout, FNAF, Ghostbusters and Chainsaw Man, that they (USH) are more willing and more game to be flexible and able to have more broader elements tied to HHN. Plus as I said with Point 3, I think the market has yet to really be mined at more properly on Hollywood.

On a overall element, I think Chainsaw Man actually is kind of exciting to see being brought over domestically. I wonder if this will be the start of Universal being in a more song/dance with Aniplex/Crunchyroll going forward with more imports beyond Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man this year. Maybe even figuring out ways to convert XR films to be DreamWorks Theater films (Demon Slayer comes to mind quick as a viable HHN contender if in this context with the projection mapping).

I can get why people are not happy, but I am here for it.

Wait, so . . . what if we didn't love FanFest? And what if anime and otaku culture in general is (to put it politely) not our cup of tea? I'm not trying to litigate whether this as a horror property (I've never seen it), and I'm also not trying to say this is a surefire sign that HHN is changing somehow.

At the same time, though, is it somehow unfair to see some FanFest-ificaiton of HHN and feel kinda . . . annoyed? What am I missing here?

Whether or not this is your cup of tea, you can’t argue against the fact that this is absolutely better than letting the DWT sit empty during HHN.

After years of seeing the Shrek theater and the Animal Actors theater sitting dormant during HHN, I’m thrilled they’re using their venues for HHN. The event needs all the capacity it can get!

I’m not against the IP, but I do agree it’s annoying to see.

But Uni also has the option to like…. Just let people chill too if they’re not going to use any of the 4D effects for any films. Literally just relaxing in one of the seats while they play classic monsters snips would be great.

You’re missing the rest of the HHN lineup. It’s one show.

Look, I know it's almost time for HHN but let's put the straw man away lol. I'm not arguing that DWT should be closed rather than feature this IP.

All I'm saying is, this property represents a whole different lane. I'm not trying to dispute that it's horror, but it nevertheless comes from a different tradition. And even though I don't like anime, I'm also not trying to say "anime = bad." But between this and Fallout and, to a certain degree, even Five Nights at Freddy's, it's more like HHN is getting away from what makes it HHN and drifting toward being a general pop-culture mashup.

Maybe this year is just a blip, who knows. I'm not drawing any definitive conclusions, my mind is open. Still, it's not unfair to feel a little uneasiness, and the dismissive knee-jerks to anyone questioning whether this is a good move is not only pretty lame, but also ironic, because when the idea of having UCM at FFN got brought up, people said "NO WRONG EVENT HHN ONLY," but now anime is coming to HHN and everyone is excited. Sure, it's horror anime, but the math isn't mathing.

And you're missing my point. I'll check this thing out and if I like it, I'll go back; if not, I'll skip it like I skipped Jabbawockeezz all those years and still have a great time. I'm saying it's fair to raise an eyebrow at this decision.
