Dark Universe - General Discussion Thread

Worried some fans are taking it to mythic levels. And it won’t live up to those expectations. It’s a new park, and that’s super exciting, but let’s not get too crazy.

At least with Dark Universe, good luck with that lol. This land in particular has understandably been hyped so astronomically for almost eight years.

The stage show space in the old art is technically where we got the Curse of the Werewolf coaster. It replaced a theater in the early permits.

Controversial, but seeing the finished Werewolf coaster I'd rather have had the theatre show, I feel it would've felt like a more substantial experience than a likely long-wait-time super short, low-themed family spinner. I guess it's cool that because we got the coaster the walkable space in the land technically increased a little though, which I think will help to make the land feel a bit bigger.

The coaster was probably intended to be the lower-cost alternative, while also upping the ride count which may have been a decision after cutting a planned ride from Potter.

Monsters Unchained had millions of dollars more infused into it during development to make it even better. This may have had something to do with the small coaster coming in to save money in the land. But that's just one theory.

It works in Potter as the show is dead center ahead as you enter. But even still, I worry its popularity may fade once overshadowed by the ride and reputation for being the short “fantastic beasts” show with no potter in it. But we shall see.

Is the theme of Dark Universe not understanding monsters and who is the real monster? Is that not part of the coaster? How does that not fit the theme of the land?

I'm going to take the word of people who actually work in parks and design these.

Never misses an opportunity to police criticism with "expertise" and read all negative opinions as bad faith, that Joe.

The reasoning for replacing the show is probably accurate but it's also speculation. It's an informed source, sure, but as we all know by now, all opinions are invalid unless unless someone actually visit the parks, with a good and generous attitude of course.

"Thematically," as in how it is visually themed and presented. I'm not talking about the story of the attraction or how that relates to the narrative subtext of the land.

You want to have a coaster there? Fine! Put it in a showbuilding. That way, you preserve the atmosphere of the land, you allow for the story of the attraction to be in perpetual nighttime (when the titular nocturnal monster is on the prowl), and you add a different type of coaster (indoor) to the park’s coaster lineup, which already has 3-4 outdoor coasters.

Of course, but I don't think belloq was saying that in his post. It's hard to read it as anything more other than a vague statement of an opinion without any elaboration. Which is fine, this isn't a debate with defined formal rules, but Joe's response was a very aggressive I like waffles, so you hate pancakes, no that's a whole new sentence situation.

I didn't say I think the show would have been better as an attraction. I have no idea. Plenty of people have implied the plan didn't sound very good. Do I think I probably would have liked the theater facade as a piece of the land more than the netted/fenced-in coaster tracks? Almost certainly.

But as I already said, you could still have done a coaster that wouldn't have been as visually jarring as Curse of the Werewolf (seemingly) ended up being.

My comment was more or less aimed at the general course of the thread - not the last few replies.

I don't think a visible coaster equates to a good or bad show.

I think its more that there is no room for a showbuilding backstage that wouldnt intrude on the land.

No, I have not yet seen it from the ground. I also haven't read/heard any first-hand visit accounts saying it looks particularly good, either.

And again, the park could use an indoor coaster. If for no other reason than it could remain open when the other 3/4 have to close for weather.

Reminds me of the 3d metal models, except no building. Bought a couple of the harry potter ones once assuming they would be fairly easy as a fairly handy guy, and its like brain surgery precision. one wrong fold and the whole model is ruined as the metal won't bend both directions without breaking.

Your initial post didn't come off that way, coming off as it NEEDED to be in a building to be successful - but I understand your point. Either way, again, I wasn't taking any issue with anything said explicitly by anyone other than the general flow of the discussion.

Given how well the main ride and while small, land itself has been received, I’m surprised they didn’t have enough faith in this to expand the footprint of this land into the expansion plot between Nintendo and Dark Universe.
