Has anyone had breakfast in the park yet? I’ve seen the breakfast menu for Oak & Star and it looks like it has some good options - is there anywhere else serving a dedicated breakfast menu?

Tried a couple of the exclusive beers today. Sadly no winners. Reaper's Reserve at Burning Blade seems like it's trying to be Disney's Kungaloosh Ale, a "winter warmer" profile that's still light enough to drink in the heat, but it had a bum soapy note that diminished the experience. Stoick's Ale at Spit Fyre was undistinguished and had a skunky taste. The blackcurrant saison at Bar Moonshine in Potter was the best of the bunch, refreshing and balanced, but it's not so distinctive that I see myself coming back to it the way I do with Isla Nublar IPA.

As far as food goes, the Vesuvio at Pizza Moon was insanely good, and huge for the price. Definitely lived up to the hype. Huli Huli pork sandwich at Oak & Star was also very tasty, though expensive. I wish I liked the pretzel stake at Burning Blade more than I did, it just didn't meet my garlic sicko standards.

Planning to hit up Das Stakehaus when I go next month, any consensus emerging on what dishes (if any) are actually any good there?

I'm perfectly fine with the mobile ordering - but I do wish there was more customization in the app. Maybe I just don't want pickles, ya know?

Even if they don't want to put individual options like "No Lettuce/No Pickle/etc", just having a general notes section to say what you'd like to change would be enough.

Honestly, I do like the mobile ordering a lot, but I agree with this. This has been a bit of criticism on my end for a bit. Even if it’s just a general notes section on my order, I would at least like the ability to customize it instead of having to tell a TM and add more to their list.

Anyway, I guess we'll see how this develops but if I can customize my Taco Bell order to absurd proportions, we should be able to make modest changes to our theme park food orders.

This is it right here. You can go to Taco Bell and customize your order to the point that it's a completely different item (you can definitely still get a Quesarito)

So TMs can definitely handle not putting tomatoes on a burger lol

What I hated is they wouldn't let me order a drink from the QS counter, even with multiple TM's standing there. They forced me to sit at a table and mobile order a drink. It was fast because of low crowds, but will not stay that way. They will need a lot more carts positioned around the lands when officially opened and more capacity allowed in.

Day 1 food recap:

Hooligan’s Grog and Gruel - I waited 20 minutes in line, and honestly…. Worth it for a first time snack. I got the Goldfish Mac n Cheese Cone and flagged my peanut allergy, and the team was extremely accommodating with all allergy requests. Definitely do not hesitate to flag any concerns with the food team! It was a really satisfying snack without feeling too calorie dense, and most importantly, it’s so easy to walk with a fork.

Pizza Moon: I got the Nanarossa for dinner. Coming from NY, this was a REALLY damn good pizza and better than Brick Oven. I will respectfully disagree with everyone who finds the stracciatella too overwhelming - to me, it felt like a fairly plusssed Neapolitan personal pie. For the price, it’s a great but not overwhelming meal.

Drinks - The Mudslide from CelesTiki was indeed REALLY good and REALLY strong. It kept me satisfied for a good chunk of the afternoon. The old fashioned from Bar Moonshine was a good old fashioned, but at nearly $20, it’s a bit steep for a standard (but zesty) bar cocktail. I really enjoyed the Daisyroot Drought at Le Goblet Noir, Reaper’s Ale at Burning Blade, and Gobber’s Mead in Berk; I would definitely get all three again.

I get that it’s not the method you’d like to pay but why not just adapt to the situation? Like when I’m at a foreign park, I know the experience is not going to be the same as my home parks and just follow the instructions given. I get that the app stuff can be annoying but I don’t think it’s worth not eating/drinking all day.

Forcing people to use the app to eat is insane, and is really poor guest relations. Lots of guests don't like to bother with phones while on vacation (as WDW has found out through their surveys), plus not everyone has a phone. This is a garbage policy if it continues once the park is officially open.

The other issue with demanding use of the app is that the internet coverage in the park is just really spotty. I wasn't able to connect to the wi-fi all day (kept getting an IP configuration error) and every building felt like a Faraday cage for my Mint Mobile SIM. When ordering at Pizza Moon I couldn't get a signal at all inside the building and had to get up and go order at the counter while asking the wait staff to guard my table.

I just don't approve of their approach to this. Again, if they want a mobile-order-only park, put out a press release and announce that policy. I'd be annoyed, but I'd also fall in line.

Don't try to subtly (or not so subtly) pressure guests into exclusively mobile ordering, while avoiding having to actually commit to that policy in writing.

Will I cool off before I visit? Probably. But it's put a real bad taste in my mouth at the moment.

Tbh any situation that forces you to mobile order is more complicated than any food ordering that I’ve experienced in any country’s theme parks, except maybe the near-identical scenario of using WeChat mini apps in China.

I don't think forcing people to use the mobile app is a bad thing. I do think it's bad to force people to use an app that often at times does not work or lacks the information one wants to find out. Look at how WDW's mobile order system is organized and scheduled appropriately.

If they can add allergy-friendly options to the ordering menu, along with scheduled times (so you have an ETA as to when you can expect your food), it'll be much improved.

Universal pushed mobile ordering priority big time after reopening after covid closing. It was a disaster with super long food lines and pi__ed off guests. After that fiasco, they went back to regular counter ordering and most people opted for counter service, and way less did mobile ordering, except in the couple restaurants that they just about forced guests to mobile order.

i think it’s at the very least not a good thing to further remove yet another informal interaction in a world that continues to devalue human to human contact.

but, it’s also not what most guests want. and universal is charging too much to do something you might find at a discount grocery store.
