Great pics man. The amount of counterweight shows you just how heavy each piece really is.

Wow, so the crane lifted its own counterweights?

Which begs the question, does a crane positioned on a hill of sand = Sandhill Crane? Please take a deep breath and moment to ponder this.

Yes, it does. This is very common on this style of crane.

Great photos Bob.
I have seen a crane load balanced so well that the outrigger under the driving cab was about 6" off the ground.
Thinking a sink hole could open at any time will add to the scare factor of this ride. :yikes:

^ I have always wondered how often soil tests are done around major roller coasters/attractions etc in central Florida. One would hope somewhat often... :stunned:

We were at Busch Gardens last Monday, and ate at the Desert Grill. The construction they were doing, whatever it was, was extremely loud and was creating vibrations that could be felt all the way inside the Desert Grill. We were sitting at the benches and the ground was practically vibrating. Some pretty amusing stuff.

^ At that time they were more than likely filling and compacting around the base.

The new theming looks stunning...Timbuktu could use this revamp...if I remember correctly this is the same guy that was behind Antarctica's theming so I'm sure it will look fantastic.

I am now way more excited about this expansion

BUSCH GARDENS ANNOUNCES REIMAGINED LAND - PANTOPIA

Fully-Remodeled Area will be Unveiled with the Launch of Falcon’s Fury, North America’s Tallest Freestanding Drop Tower

FalconsFury-104.jpg

Busch Gardens Tampa has announced that when it launches Falcon’s Fury, North America’s tallest freestanding drop tower, in spring 2014, it will also unveil its newest land – Pantopia.

FalconsFury-101.jpg

Currently known as Timbuktu, the fully remodeled Pantopia will boast elaborately-jeweled theming and feature thrilling rides and attractions, sensational new food and beverage options, exciting entertainment, shopping, a renovated indoor theater and more.

Located in the heart of Busch Gardens, the centerpiece of Pantopia will be Falcon’s Fury. The one-of-a-kind drop tower will stand at 335 feet and beckon guests from across the globe as it takes riders soaring straight down. At the ride’s highest point there is an element of surprise. Like its bird of prey namesake, riders will pivot 90 degrees in midair to a face-down dive position. An instant later they'll plunge 60 mph at 3.5 Gs straight down.

FalconsFury-102.jpg

In addition to Falcon’s Fury, this completely reimagined land will be a creative haven that has been inspired by centuries of world travelers, offering something for every member of the family.

FalconsFury-103.jpg

“In addition to the power and allure of Falcon’s Fury, Pantopia will celebrate the spirit of animals, welcome adventurers from the four corners of the earth, explore ancient lore and display fantastic architecture,” says Busch Gardens Park President Jim Dean. “Guests will find multiple portals and doorways and learn about the legends that have drawn journeyers from around the world to Pantopia. Plus, family favorites like the Scorpion, Phoenix, Bush Flyers, Desert Runners and the Kiddie Train will return.”

I like the idea of an indoor theater now that Stanleyville is gone, hopefully they can do another show during HOS in there. Wonder if it means a change for the Desert Grill and the shows there?
