What stops the general public from phone bombing these lines?

I mean, why in the world would anyone outside of the surrounding communities want to do that?

It's not a survey. It's a hotline. This is the same deal as the kind of hotline they need to set up at construction sites in California. I can assure you there are not thousands of people "phone bombing" those numbers with false dust sightings.

Sorry, I just have little faith in humanity these days. The amount of people that review bomb movies / games for political or personal opinions has ruined things. It’s not unlike the folks that have posted they would scream “extra loud” due to the homeowners complaining.

The ride has opened at park opening.

Gonna try to ride it first thing Sunday morning if this continues. Can’t go today as I’m working and I already committed to hosting a party today.

EDIT: Question: Is it possible to check in during the morning, leave and come back later with my AP? More specifically, does parking work for that?

Parking, I'm not sure but I can shoot Universal support a message about that for you. I know you can reenter the park with no issue though. I've gotten food at CityWalk and returned before.

I've definitely got a packed day today. This, whatever MMS offerings I can see, and the final day of a longtime Deacon Actor's performances at Waterworld (Greg Dolph) are in it for me today. The last thing is why I'm at the park today, but I definitely didn't expect the ride to begin rehearsals at park opening.

Has single rider been open during the soft openings? Debating on starting with Super Nintendo World on Sunday, but if Hollywood Drift is going to be a two hour line all day I'd rather rope drop that.

Glad you asked. I just got off single rider, and a welcome change I've noticed is that they now comb the line for any express/VIP/single riders to let them right through. Only took me 24 minutes from line to the gate that way, and it was an approximately 35-40 minute wait in single rider.

Edit: Whew, 2 rides in and I feel at my limit for the moment. Single rider took me less than 40 minutes the second time around. I feel like that's something i ought to take advantage of while I can. I'd just hope it doesn't get too slammed later since it's a roller coaster.

Edit 2 (4:10PM) : So while the gate line is much shorter now (only goes up to the exit barricades), single rider looked slammed and is currently closed as a result. At least having it open the whole day so far is helping crowd flow.

I managed to get on the ride yesterday via the standby queue... after four hours.

Folks, they've got a big capacity problem here, and I'm not sure how they're going to resolve it.

I would've understood and accepted that wait time as the price of getting on during technical rehearsals... if technical delays were the source of the delays. They weren't. Aside from two "brief delay" announcements that coincided with rollbacks (which were resolved in under 5 minutes each), the ride was running at basically maximum capacity. Full trains were constantly dispatched as soon as the block cleared. This wasn't a ride station ops issue. Trains on both sides were waiting for the track to clear so they could deploy the whole time I was up there.

The real problem is the capacity versus the Express/standby ratio. Once I was close enough to observe, I witnessed a ratio of approximately 10:1. My gut assessment of what's happening here is that there's limited queueing space for Express guests, so they're basically forced to admit them constantly to avoid that line reaching capacity or spilling out into the plaza. The result is the standby queue frequently did not move for 20-minute periods.

The long-term fix here is to reconfigure some of the central queue area to devote more space to Express guests, thereby allowing for more breathing room and a healthier ratio. (Even 5:1 would be remarkably better.) From what I can tell, this is possible, but it will require some manufacturing/adjustments to the metal, bolted railings that can't be completed overnight. Express guests will have to wait longer on average, but I think that's the only way to avoid constant 240 minute waits, which isn't tenable.

There are, by my count, four water fountains with bottle refill stations located throughout the queue. This was a smart move, because I suspect many guests would have passed out in the heat if they weren't present. A fight nearly broke out twice. There are misters in the extended queue alongside Duff Brewery, but aside from some dinky fans in the hidden switchbacks from hell nestled within the track layout, there's no real relief anywhere else. I'm guessing they can't use the misters too close to the tracks/supports to avoid increased wear from moisture, but they need to get some industrial fans up in there, at the very least.

The queue from a theming perspective is fine - not great, not terrible. About on par with something a regional park would do for their stab at a more "themed" offering, though the IP only gives you so much. For all the talk about how this was going to celebrate the vehicle stunt work of the Fast & Furious movies, I didn't notice a single piece of theming supporting that angle. The old Italian Job Stunt Track at Kings Island had more going for it on this front.

They didn't seem to really think through the locker layout or process. The configuration is confusing with multiple blind corners, it's extremely congested, and guests here aren't familiar with the whole "everything in your pockets needs to go in there" standard. Unlike Velocicoaster, there isn't adequate, sequestered space to wait for the metal detectors, which kept getting backed up and worsened the overall congestion. It's actively unpleasant, and I don't see a quick way to resolve it other than "admit fewer people at once."

The lack of presence of the Fast Crew is also a head scratcher. To be honest, it feels like they ran out of money as they raced to resolve engineering and sonic challenges.

All that said, though? The ride itself rules. It's a top-tier coaster that's up there with my favorites in SoCal. The elements are innovative and exhilarating. It did not make me at all nauseous, and I can sometimes be sensitive to that when you combine spinning and frequent inversions. The length is rock solid; it did not feel short, even after the brutal wait. The view of Potter as you roll back into the station is also exceptional; during Horror Nights, with the crow stilts and (presumably) Dark Mark projections, it's going to be stunning.

I do also think they could've done a little more with the on-ride audio. The revving and screeching really sell the vehicle maneuvering, but I was a little shocked we didn't get Vin Diesel shouting "ride or die" during one of the climactic drifts or a "thanks for riding with us" from the crew at unload. It just sort of quietly stops. That could be adjusted, though, and I hope they aren't quite done.

My biggest concern remains the Express/throughput issue. I personally think they need to nix Express access, as they did for Mario Kart, for the near future; otherwise, they're going to get hit with local interest stories and viral complaints about the 3-hour+ queues every day. When demand settles, they can experiment with restoring it.

They should pull a Rise of the Resistance and make it a single purchase express or something. Definitely not included with AP perk express, or general express.

Express needs to be removed like Hagrid’s did. I waited in line just after they closed it off that first day and the standby line FLEW once the Express line was cleared out.

Expanding the Express queue is a poor fix. I think so many people having express is the problem, especially platinum after 3pm. Even with the 10:1 ratio the Express line is still backed up.

Again I’m surprised Express is being offered right away on this coaster. All ride openings have added express nearly a year after opening once the hype dies down and Team Members get used to the operations.

Edit: would it kill them to add more shade tarps over the queue?

My guess, based on how big of a problem this would be and how they handled Mario Kart, is just that they’ll only open Express about a year and a half later when demand has settled slightly and it’ll be fine. I just hope the lockers aren’t annoying forever.

Simple solution will be to remove the Express and the metal detectors. And while they are at it, and completely unrelated, remove the stupid fingerprint scanners at the entrance and just go back to pictures. Getting into the park has the biggest back up of all.

How much of this could be ironed out for the Orlando version? And for the cars and props in the queue line, there are those QR codes you can scan which could give me more info on the behind the scenes stunt aspect.

Maybe they are only testing the express for the soft opening and they won’t utilize it when it opens to the public officially.

I assume express will be part of the ride, but if the AP is not offered until like after fan fest that could help for the time being

But as someone with a platinum AP, I also won’t complain if it stays but understand the flow is worst for now with it

Just got into the park, and we’re in line now! Single Rider currently closed (lockers for it are full) and they are allowing Express. We’ll see how long this takes.

The Lockers being full....Like I just don't don't get it
Stuff like that is just plain annoying, like sorry we didn't build this right so now the line process is worst. If this was the first kinda of coaster I more get it but they have other coasters like this in Florida and you'd think know the demand

We’ve seen our fair share of trains go by, every other one has at least one completely unused/empty car. Wonder what that’s all about? Hoping it’s for some sort of weird test and not just them being inefficient.

Edit: It’s the same car every time that is empty so I can’t imagine that is a coincidence.
