Like many people, I've been thinking a lot about The Odyssey lately. And it occurred to me that we just never realized that Supercharged is really a clever retelling of this epic tale. It's out of order, but I'll attribute that to the challenges of retelling it in a completely different medium. Consider the following:
- We are Odysseus, embarking on an epic journey (albeit with a mannequin driving the bus).
- We encounter the party scene, or should I say the Sirens and their beautiful song.
- Then, suddenly, we are confronted with the swine within ourselves as we are quickly forced to decide if we should laugh along with The Rock's awkward dick joke.
- Soon after, we have a close encounter with a giant bald cyclops as it gets a little too close to us while hanging from a regular-sized helicopter. (Sure, it's a bi-clops here, but they obviously had a very low budget to work with).
- Then we find ourselves in the finale, amidst a fight with Penelope's suitors. We even see Antinous try to squirm away as he is standing up straight on the bed of a pick-up truck going full speed.
- We finally reach our destination! The place we longed to be since this journey began: off of the damn ride.
- On the way out, we realize that we did this to ourselves. We violated our own Zeus' Law by going on this ride in the first place.
