As I said just before your post-
The ride system isn’t necessarily the problem. Look at Kong. It’s a great attraction in IOA.

Why is Kong successful with the same ride system?

1) Storyline - coherent and simple
2) Graphics - Doesn’t look corny and fake
3) Scale - from the queue to the facade - the ride is grand feeling even though it’s just a screen tunnel. Everything around the screen tunnel just works.
4) The outdoor section - gives us a longer ride and allows us to make the scale and façade of the ride part of the ride itself. The ride is noticeably less enjoyable when it skips the outdoor section.
5) The animatronic - impressive as hell. But it’s arguably way less important than the other 4 points. There could be no animatronic and the ride would still work. It’s just a great punctuation at the end of a relatively complete ride.

But the most important part in my opinion?
6) It’s a ride perfectly placed in a park that desperately needs a ride with its qualities. Specifically- being indoor in a park full of outdoor rides. And in a park with only 2 screen based rides in it. Thereby adding to the diversity of the park’s attractions instead of contributing to it’s overabundance.

—-

So knowing the ride system itself isn’t the problem; how can Twisters correct what F&F got wrong and Kong got right?

For starters- numbers 1 and 2 can easily be done. But numbers 3, 4 and 5; you can’t, with the way the current show building is. So they are going to need to massively overcompensate with some fans and blowers to truly make the tunnel experience itself stand apart. As much physical effects as they can add they need to.

They do that and it can be an OK attraction that still works in the park. But only if the correct number 6. Which is, by far, the bigger problem.

Sure. I agree with every single point you brought up. I love Kong. I probably ride it as often as any ride in either park. It was perfect for this ride system. The outdoor section is 'crucial' to the ride though. When outdoor is not available, I don't do the ride. If they do Twister, I think they need to stay away from urban scenes and concentrate on rural areas. Those city scenes just didn't work for Supercharged on that screen. The jungle scenes of Kong seem very realistic.

And yes, it's in the wrong park. USF is way out of balance and this just continues that.

Bottom line, USF is treated like the Universal park orphan. Since Diagon's splash, it's just been year after year of poor decisions. Even the one success, Bourne, is starting to lose its repeatability. I loved it at first, but now it's starting to feel old . It doesn't have the timelessness that Terminator did.

Universal needs more 'Monsters Unchained' quality attractions....not just the concept that something is better than nothing. Can Twister be decent or just OK (and it's a shame we have to use that word instead of the words 'Excellent' or 'great') ? Sure it can, if they spend enough budget to make it Kong level. But I have little faith they will do that. I hope I'm wrong.

I have to say, the idea of a movie IP that previously had an attraction at USF getting an all new one...and it being Twister before Back to the Future, Jaws, etc is really funny to me, hahaha. Don't think that was on anyone's bingo card...

Just Florida Guy. He said that he heard that from sources a few times but no one paid attention.

I want a great Universal movie ride where every scene is an experience (like the boathouse in Jaws, the metro in Disaster or the Kong/Helicopter scene in the original Kong ride but on a smaller scale (ip's are examples)).
I want it to be themed to the level of Secret Life of Pets or Dream-flight at Efteling.
I want it to fit from toddler (solid form not liquid) regular fat to morbidly obese, in other words no extreem ride system, a wiggel or a single spin would be enough.

Ride intensity doesn't always dictate restraints. See: High in the Sky Suess Trolly Ride having clamshells because it doesn't have evac walkways. I mean, Supercharged has a height requirement but no restraints!

It is interesting to me that there were many people that were okay with a retheme to another IP - but because it's Twisters it's a "terrible idea"

I will laugh so hard if this ends up not happening though lol

Assuming the rumor was correct when posted, Universal changes its mind enough that this is very possible regardless lol

Bite the bullet, rip the band aid.

Overhaul the park entirely.

I don’t think closing down multiple attractions simultaneously will hurt the park capacity wise (after all, nobody is at F&F or Simpsons as much as Mummy or Gringotts).

People are at IOA, no attendance impacts there.
People are at Epic, heck they’re being prevented to go.
People are not at USF, they’re only there for Diagon and Special Events.

The only time I venture to USF is for HHN. Even Gringotts is starting to show its age. The Mummy is the only ride worth riding there. Maybe ET for pure nostalgia. Really looking forward to FF.

I don’t like the Kong ride … so I have very low expectations to this 360 screen rides replacement regardless of the IP.

Why they don't just give up and make it the damnable Knight Bus ride, I have no idea. Anyone's particular current feelings toward Potter aside, unless Rowling can't be convinced, it's the most obvious possible solution to "the problem" barring a complete rebuild.

All the infrastructure is there. It will be instantly popular even if it turns out sort of lame.

Some people just can't get out of their own way.

I’d probably agree at this point, honestly. Especially because it would be perfectly possible to close the front half of the park but keep access via the HE into Diagon, and probably via backstage around the soundstages / the old walkway that threads through to Seuss in IOA if they wanted to. You could keep everything from Mummy across the back to MIB open but take the bulldozers to the entrance area and Springfield plus whatever else.

Probably could. They're already down three attractions *Rocket Coaster *F&F in a week *Horror Make Up redo ....and no capacity long line issues since attendance is so so.

The front half of the park is fine. The two soundstages are ugly, but Minion Mayhem, Mummy, Transformers, Bourne, and soon Hollywood Drift are all popular and Fallon is harmless. But everything in the back half except for ET, Kidzone, and Diagon has to go.

It's still depressing to me how there's a reality where Super Nintendo World and Ministry of Magic end up in Studios like they were supposed to. That would have transformed this park. Toss in Hollywood Drift (it would probably still happen) and you have the best park in Central Florida. Instead, we have this.

How's FFL doing these days? Haven't heard a rumor about it since before this decade.

Tomorrowland is one of the best theme park lands in the world, with an absolute ton of recent and future redevelopment. Tron is good modern fun, Buzz Lightyear is the best it's ever been, Space Mountain and Carousel are already solid attractions both set for big updates soon. Yes, the infamous Stitch show that most people didn't even enjoy isn't running anymore. Thank god for the other seven indoor shows in the park then!

Men in Black's land is too valuable. They could easily build two big lands on that waterfront between MIB/FFL and Simpsons.

Like others, I would actually enjoy a Twisters overlay. My preference would have been to use a new ride system but Twisters mixed with screens and maybe some other effects could be very enjoyable.

That shouldn’t be empty either, just as Wonders of Life is.

I'm not enthusiastic about Twisters (or some of Universal Creative's recent output) either, but let's not act like Disney's been hitting homerun after homerun, guys.

Tomorrowland's still a scatterbrained mess of an identity crisis, even with the long-overdue improvements to the crusty Space Rangers Spin or the addition of Tron (which is as big of a sightline mess as any of Universal's worst sins and took an absurd number of years to build). The Carousel of Progress updates could be great or be a total miss depending on the script. Space Mountain's redo seems inevitable thanks to the realities of entropy, but I'll also believe it when I see it.

If the Twisters rumor is true, I can understand it as a first step, especially because it can fix something that a majority of people have been clamoring for since Supercharged opening, a replacement...

It's a recognizable property with enough appeal to freshen up the area, but it's also not one of Universal's "crown jewel" IPs that you'd want to build an entire land around.

I'd much rather see Universal save properties like Back to the Future, Jaws, and other legacy franchises for projects that can actually do them justice, rather than forcing them into an existing building as a quick fix.

And who knows? Maybe Twisters ends up being a better fit than people expect. If it succeeds, great. If it doesn't, Universal hasn't burned one of its biggest franchises on what was ultimately intended to be a transitional project.

I get why people want Universal to go all in, but I also think it's easier to say that as fans than it is from their perspective.

I've mentioned this before, but Universal already did spend a lotta money at USF over the last 15 years; so the problem wasn't a lack of investment, it was that many of those investments didn't age well (or in FF's case, hit at all.) At this point, though, that's water under the bridge. We're already here. There's no undoing the decisions that got USF to this point.

But from their perspective, I can understand why it's hard to justify saying, "Well, that didn't work... let's immediately spend another billion dollars," especially in these current times.

Fix Supercharged. Add a dark ride to DreamWorks Land. Tighten up Minion Land to Minion Studios. Replace Simpsons. If they all hit, USF will be just fine.
