But really, the upgrade for the park would be the IP itself. Getting BTTF back into the attraction lineup would be huge.

I think getting a retro IP back in the lineup could be a good gauge for the future as well. If they brought back BTTF and it was a smash hit, they may be more likely to consider bringing back other classics.

bttf or not a retheme (especially for bttf) would be incredibly disappointing.

I'm just kind of amazed that the best idea for a replacement is still a 40 year old movie and it's kinda bad for the industry and the movie industry that they couldn't get anything more recent to work.
obviously I would personally like this idea, and it is a lot of fun, and back to the future is and will always be iconic,
but part of me is kinda shocked that they aren't picking something more recent.

The F&F ride system, while not my favorite, can work well if the visuals match the experience it tries to do. BTTF fits it, F&F does not. BTTF you can use the screens to teleport via time.

San Francisco, while a decent area, feels out of place. Easily converted into Hill Valley will make it more relevant.

It's obviously not ideal, but it would be a relatively "easy" way to instantly improve the park (again, just the IP alone).

Whatever replaces Springfield had better be entirely new, top to bottom, in this hypothetical scenario, however. With multiple significant attractions (one of which with a minimal amount of projected media, hopefully).

Name a better Universal movie that also naturally lends itself to theme park application made in the last 40 years, and is currently unrepresented in an attraction. That's genuine: if you think there is one, let me know!

BACK TO THE FUTURE is one of the great popcorn entertainments of all time. It belongs in Universal's parks in a major way.

I think as long as they have more sets and amazing theming with this hypothetical BTTF retheme I'll be extremely happy. It could be amazing and I trust that they will deliver. Now if only the RRR retheme was Ghostbusters... they could bring back the "Ride the Movies" slogan (also if they could somehow bring back Jaws that would be nice too :p)

Imo they need to level the entire area and build an Epic Universe level dark ride. BTTF deserves so much better than a skin slapped on what’s maybe the worst Universal ride of all time

Facade is rethemed to the clock tower, celebrating Hill Valley’s “Founder’s Day.” The queue is themed to a Hill Valley museum.

The preshow room becomes a “Celebration of Hill Valley’s History and Future.” Instead of Luda… it features a special message from Hill Valley mayor Goldie Wilson. But… there’s a glitch. For a moment, Goldie looks like… Biff?

Anyway… we soon board a tour bus to take a proper tour of Hill Valley. We take a brief stop at the musion scene to see Mayor Wilson give some opening comments about the celebration, but that is suddenly interrupted by the Deloreon appearing… with Biff! Suddenly, Doc Brown appears from the crowds and needing to chase and stop Biff, commandeers the only vehicle available… our BUS!

Time-hijinks ensue.

You want a retheme in a year? There you go.

no thanks. hill valley / courthouse square… yes, of course.. but let’s do back to the future right and not slop it into the supercharged ride system. Start fresh and use a new system. We first saw the 360 system in 2010. 15+ years later and all of the backlash for screens plus arguably one of the most iconic properties in house, do it right and take more time. This could be a forever attraction.

Yeah, I've always been adamant that the ride system has always been the biggest issue with F&F, not the ride film. Any sort of half-hearted retheme is not going to help the park in the long run. If they're serious about improving USF, they need to take their time and get it right.

With updated visuals and effects, it can be a great attraction. Won't be the best, but BTTF has a solid soundtrack and aesthetic that people will love.

Fun to speculate about the ride... but what about a potential Hill Valley?

Convert Richter's to Doc's Experimental Kitchen, convert Lombard's to Cafe 80s, etc.

if the cafe 80s came it would be interesting to see what version of hill valley we’d get. With the cafe 80’s you would have to create the 2015 version which would be a little daunting and isn’t as iconic as og courthouse square. and if you want to include things like food (1985 is an aerobic studio) you would have to most likely go 1955 and do Lou’s. Would be interesting if they make 55/85 courthouse but throw in 2015 options.

After SWGE, I think creatives realized you can't get too linear. Need to give lands flexibility. Ideally set in the 80s, but I also wouldn't mind it transitioning from 1955 - 1985 and then 2015. Would be cool.

I would have expected Ghostbusters to be what replaced rip ride or this one, if fast and furious is replacing rip ride rock it, I would have expected GB to be here since the new movies were doing so well ( unless there are other plans for GB)

Based on the timelines suggested, I think it's pretty clear what they'll do. That's also about when the Simpson contract will be up. They can just take the Simpsons ride system and move it to the Supercharged building and theme it to BTTF.

I'm still think it's going to be a Ms. Frizzle's Magic School Bus retheme. A magical trip up someone's nose.

Yes I’m not actually not sold on this retro IP resurgence yet. Ghostbusters definitely makes sense to come back and maybe even Jaws.

But BTTF seems to be targeted towards a very nostalgic crowd that I’m not sure has enough pull for a ride again.

Convince me otherwise ????

and there's no new videogame or cartoon show coming out or anything really, not new merch or not even a phone game out, nothing new. or Netflix spinoff or anything.

I'm not diminishing the movie or knocking it down, but it's not something that teens are talking about. not something that is been meme'd

the last game came out many years ago and didn't wasn't a huge hit, the Ghostbusters game was a much more bigger deal,

maybe the universal parade had really strong reviews and feedback.

BTTF is a timeless IP. It's also a staple of the Universal Studios company... It doesn't need a reason (new movie, video game whatever) to warrant a reason to come back in the parks. It speaks for itself. Also you're wrong @Lucky Planet there is new content for BTTF rn. The musical. It's pretty popular right now

The storyline can be anyplace, anytime. That makes it very flexible. After all, it's all about Time Travel.

I believe this BTTF rumor more now after seeing that Universal Studios GB map. One of the areas is clearly a BTTF land with a coaster, plus that Flux capacitor easter egg on Stardust Racers it seems they're really interested in having this IP back in the parks. It all makes sense. It is the 40th anniversary this year as well...
