Jaws was pretty thrilling as a 'movie'. There was no water or special effects. Some water spray and a few practical effects, plus screen, like Shanghai Pirates of the Carribean could work. I don't see them making original Jaws or JPRA type attractions anymore. Though good, they're very expensive to run.

Universal isnt poor. BUT just buy more alcoholic beverages to fund the operating costs. Problem solved.

Jaws is so legendary that it needs a ground up new build that expands on the original. Plus the franchise doesn’t lend itself to a simulator. It’s very grounded and realistic (the first film at least) and the only way to pull it off is a boat ride with only physical props and suspenseful pacing. If they went the indoor route they could use Bourne-style screens to replicate the backdrop of open water, but Jaws 360-3D just feels like an insult to the film and the original attraction

BTTF on the other hand is perfect for a simulator, although something with at least SOME physicality would be better

I agree. If it came back, Jaws would need to be as grounded and realistic as possible. Boat + water = Jaws. Just because we have the technology to 3D map or use other tech and make it "look like" you're in water but not actually have water IMO (and I know I'm just one person lol but IMO) isn't right. I appreciate Legacy's suggestion of the tram/boat hybrid of course, but I guess I'm just stubborn, because unless it's a boat+water, I'd rather not have it at all. Sorry for being a stickler lol. It just feels like at that point we're just trying to unnaturally force into that space when it's not a natural fit.

That’s how I feel about this BTTF proposal.

I honestly don’t understand why people are giving Uni a pass to do a quick retheme when so many of the same posters were railing against that very idea for USF going forward.

So is the general consensus among everyone (and the insiders) that the ride system, busses, show scenes and big 360 tunnel aren't changing? Because if that's the case, I'm not too excited about anything, even as awesome as a BTTF attraction would be. Supercharged's problems mostly lie with the ride system and layout. I don't want them to waste a great IP like BTTF by doing a low budget re-theme. The park needs some good new attractions. No more re-themed of bad ones that are almost entirely screen based.
This. The reason people have a problem with F&F is partially the poor quality of the ride in general yes but also the fact that it's a terrible ride system when you're trying to pair it with a "thrilling" IP. A thrilling IP x a slow moving ride vehicle do not mix. If we tried to select other similarly thrilling IPs like BTTF into that space, we're going to run into the same repeat issue. A story built around a vehicle meant to blast off into time-travel mode doesn't fit any better in a slow moving ride system than a "supercharged" car race in a slow moving vehicle did.

I feel like the more I think about it, we're again, just trying to unnaturally force these IPs into a space that's not a natural fit.

Universal would be best fit to gut that whole space and just start over. Otherwise, if they're going to keep that ride system they need to just make it a family ride that isn't really dependent on thrills as a part of the storyline.

Are you referring to Jaws the ride, or Jaws the movie?

Because both of those had water lol

Movie: Jaws water was on the screen. It wasn't real.

Huh? Respectfully, there absolutely was real water in the movie Jaws. Lots of it in fact.

Also, real water in the original ride.

Gotcha - wasn't quite sure what the argument was lol

While I think BTTF can work with the 360 ride system, I don't think Jaws would fit at all

Where they filmed the movie....but not on the screen that you watched the movie........Bottom line....they really don't need to do a Jaws ride through, or in water, they can just have realistic screens like they do with POC Shanghai, and give you a mist spray like they do with Gingotts.

Well not with that attitude!

Also... if we're going the BTTF route, just give us 2015 Hill Valley so we can get JAWS 19! Solves the IP issue for both!

Bottom line: Jaws doesn't have to be a water ride like it was at USF up until 2011. There's many ways it can be made using projections and practical sets. It's doubtful Universal will do a costly, and lots of downtime, type system like the previous USF attraction..... @TheCodeMan95 Yes, POC Shanghai ride system travels on water, but the main nexus of the attraction is the projection screens and a couple animatronics. My point is that they could do a realistic Jaws version using POTC type projections. They could do a Jaws attraction without it being a water ride, and then it could work in the F&F building with modifications.............................But, I think BTTF would work better for that building, if they don't want to tear it down.

I suggested that a decade or so ago, but that's not a full fledged attraction. Just a nice add on event to keep the shin busting strollers out of the park. . :)

I agree that they could use that system, I just wanted to point out that the boat is in fact traveling through water - and I think that's required for Jaws lol

1. It’s an IP most of us thought would never come back, so we’ll accept a less-than-perfect ride with fun new placemaking.

2. The IP fits the existing ride system waaaay better than the current one.

3. If the next major, mega headliner project is actually the Simpsons replacement towards the end of the decade, this and the new coaster are good stop-gaps.

I’m not even sure I agree lol. I would definitely prefer a gut job. But even if it’s a retheme I think it’s a cool & unexpected turn of events.

You’re correct in the sense that it doesn’t *have to* have water…technically, yes, there are other ways around it to manufacture the concept of water…but IMO just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Why create fake water through projection mapping when you can have the real deal for an IP like Jaws no less. You’re entitled to your opinion of course but it just feels silly to me.
