Recentely saw The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. In it, Daffy Duck’s and Porky Pig’s quest to save their beloved home has them reluctantly landing a job at the Local bubble gum factory. Their first day on the job, they find themselves themselves entangled in an intergalactic plot for world domination via bubble gum.

A looney, loving send-up of classic sci-fi films like The Blob, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and The Thing (Armageddon and Night of the Living Dead even makes it in there, oddly enough). The animation is 2D/hand-drawn (with the exception of the spaceship), but tends to have a digital look to it. That said, there are plenty of inspired moments of animation that impress and delight.

The score is gorgeous, featuring plenty of riffs on “The Merry Go Round Broke Down” (aka the classic Looney Tunes theme song). It sounds similar to the types of music we’d get in a classic Looney Tunes short. The voice-acting is perfection. Our leads and even the background characters nail the classic Looney Tunes spirit.

Eric Bauza plays both Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. You won’t be able to tell it’s the same voice actor doing both characters, and Bauza excels at each. Peter MacNicol (aka Dr. Janosz Poha/Vigo’s henchman in Ghostbusters 2) voices The Invader and is highly entertaining and perfect as well. Apparently even Wayne Knight lent his voice, though I can’t seem to find exactly who he played. There are plenty of classic Looney Tunes gags that make it into the film as well (much to my delight).

If you are looking for other classic Looney Tunes characters, you’ve come to the wrong place. They don’t even make cameos or background appearances. The only other Looney Tunes character that’s featured is Petunia Pig. Luckily, all that’s small potatoes when the entire film does such a perfect job of capturing the tone, style, spirit, and insanity of our beloved childhood friends.

The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a low-key miracle. If you are a fan of the Looney Tunes, a film nerd (especially so if you’re a sci-fi film nerd), or a lover of classic 2D hand-drawn animation, then The Day the Earth Blew Up is a gift meant for you. Buy a ticket, and enjoy the chaos.

5 STARS (YEAH, I WENT THERE!)

If you like spy thrillers for adults, BLACK BAG is pretty excellent. Classy and stylish filmmaking, good performances, fun writing. Favorite movie of the year thus far.

Yes everyone should watch Black Bag. If you liked Conclave and its dialogue-heavy diva battles, you'll love Black Bag.

Interesting tidbit of discussion but over the course of CinemaCon from the week; a common thread seemed to trickle down.

Movie Studios are seemingly being chill and wanting movie theaters to reconsider how they’re doing their options with prices; with discussions from both Sony Pictures and Paramount on the encouragement of extending matinee tickets to go to 6PM, and having the price of tickets reduced for weekdays more properly (atleast from Mondays to Wednesday). There seems to be a push in wanting things to improve, even if it’s only being spoken and not done right now.

Anybody else really disappointed in this season of Yellowjackets? There really is only two characters I care about in this show at all and I was really invested in the first season.

I'm enjoying this season a lot more than I did last season, but I have a bad feeling they'll end on a cliffhanger and I can't wait another couple of years for a resolution

Hopefully after Lilo and Stitch and the Moana live action retelling, Disney will take a break from these live action remakes for a bit. Or if the aforementioned movies do well, it will give them the idea to start churning them out again...

Maybe if they want more people to go to the movies they should reconsider how they want their movies to show up on their streaming platforms two weeks after they come out in theaters.

I'm a few episodes behind (got spoiled that 2nd death, WTF!) but I'm enjoying this season more than the last. Though neither of these seasons live up to season 1. Season 1 is by far the best season imo

I just feels like this season especially is suffering from “this plot wouldn’t work if all of the characters weren’t so stupid” syndrome. I don’t even mean the trauma, I mean actually very stupid.

I do wonder if there's truth to Juliette Lewis wanting out, and the writers having to scramble to account for that (instead of it being planned). Nat is such an important character, and I have to imagine that accounted for some weirdness in S2 and a lot of (what feels like) whiplash in S3.
