Yup, especially one like Epcot's which revolved around "edutainment" and cultural learning by "visiting" other countries (which was a novel idea at the time) so that you could understand different parts of the world better. The second the internet was born, most of Epcot's original theme of being a world's fair lost it's luster. All of this could be found online and especially with things like Wikipedia out there or my ability to book a trip to any country I want online, Epcot's original vision became irrelevant.
I'm gonna be honest and say I don't have much of a problem with the path Epcot is on, except for the fact that with everything they're doing, we're only gaining a net total of one ride in the park. Now i'd argue we're gaining two, as by the end of it's days UoE saw next to no ridership and this will be the most popular ride of the park and probably balloon the popularity of a ride like Mission Space with Test Track's popularity remaining strong. I do wish we'd have at least gotten the Poppins ride or something.
The World Nature side of Epcot should be a focus for Epcot going forward. World Discovery is pretty fleshed out (unless Chevrolet wants to update Test Track again), but World Nature has Figment JIYI is in World Celebration, but I prefer which BADLY needs a redo, The Land which is actually fine and in great shape (it's probably the most 80's Epcot thing still in the park), Nemo feels stale, although The Seas Pavilion is still fun to browse around in. There is room for expansion on that side of the park between Seas and Land, but a Journey into Imagination redo absolutely must be done first or simultaneously. Also, yes, I know that JIYI is in World Celebration technically, but I still prefer to look at the park from an East-Spine-West perspective.
