Are we thinking four trains max for this or five? With the two hold areas in play they could easily have two on track, one on deck (like Cheetah Hunt) and one or two in the station. Thoughts?

I think the trains will hold 14 riders. Which is 2 riders less than Cheetah Hunt. And yes, my guess is only 2 per row. Maintenance will have a lot of bays that can hold like 5 trains I think.

Any idea what the ride time is?

There’s no way to know exactly since we won’t know how long we’ll be in slower or stopped show scenes, which there will be 4 or 5 of throughout the ride. Some slowed down so we can see things and a couple stops (like track switch moments.)

Maybe Universal just doesn’t care to build the Great Hall. They’ve had many opportunities to do it and never took them.

I've always gotten the impression that that was more of a fan wish than a serious plan on the part of Universal.

I bet this is an instance where Rowling doesn’t want it unless the food comes up out of the table like magic or some other ridiculous stipulation/condition they’ve never been able (or willing) to meet.

I feel like one of those fancy sushi trains could be modified to give the effect of your food just appearing from nowhere (maybe embedded into the table if it was thick/deep enough)... your order arrives directly to your spot at the table and you just open a flap to retrieve it? That could be slightly magical?!

For those who have not read the books the food is explain there. You cannot simply conjure up food. Below the Great Hall is an army of house elves in the kitchens. They lay out the food on tables underneath and the food is magically transported up to the Great Hall tables above.

At one point Dobby gets a job as a free elf in the kitchen and is paid for it.

I did some measurements on google earth and I used the Three Broom Sticks as a guide for the size of a restaurant. You're right it would have to go behind FJ. There is no room by Hippogriff. I do wonder how they would have you enter the restaurant though. You would have to walk through the greenhouses and to the back of them to get to it. Then would they build a facade for and how would that look there? Also, I think it should be a table service, maybe a buffet or something, then maybe we would finally getting a full time sorting hat. They could've used some of the dragon challenge land to move the FJ building by Hippogriff but it appears it's too late now.

If I were designing the Great Hall, seating would be in blocks of time. And it would be a $99 upcharge dinner show with awesome effects and performers all around you. It would be an event. Several showings daily. I bet it would make boat loads of money. And during the Holidays the show would be changed over to the Yule Ball. It would be immensely popular and seats would sell out months in advance. Sorry for the derail. Back to topic.

I recall reading that Universal, two years ago, surveyed the feasibility of a Yule Ball hard ticket for Holiday celebrations.

I honestly wouldn't even care if servers bring out the platters of food to the table, just give me an accurate recreation I can dine in and do it family style.

Yeah, nice to have ground level. It gives you a better look of the way you'll really see & experience a ride. Aerial views are interesting, but not really representative of how an attraction will "look & feel".

It’s doable. Make it a two level restaurant with all the backhouse and cooking on 1st level.
Make it family style- so set price with set menu - have an empty table - then have it fold apart and collapse into floor and real table rises up into place all with fog and lighting effects so you can’t see it happening.
This is done while standing and waiting to be seated. Your host casts a spell- and voila- done. $69/adult and $39/child and count your money.

If universal wanted to, it would be done. It seems they just don’t want to. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Like someone said earlier. It’s not just Universal deciding what to build. Maybe JK/WB have no interest in it either as it would outside the Hogwarts castle they have built.

I recall that back when Universal was planning Hollywood HP Hogsmeade, there was a lot of chatter on the internet that Universal was going to put a Great Hall restaurant in Hogwarts. Of course, as we now know, that never happened.

The building can be outside the castle but it can give the impression of being inside it.

dining hall hp.JPG

If you make the entrance to the Great Hall near FJ and have a tunnel or walkway going under or through the show building to the area above, you'll have an area larger than Be Our Guest while still giving the impression of being inside the castle. It doesn't matter how long the walk is as the castle is perceived to be incredibly larger than it is and like Be Our Guest, you can have fake windows to sell the illusion even further.

With all the talk about things happening in JP, it seems like the perfect time to execute the plan and I think adding The Great Dining Hall would be a great last hurrah for HP in the parks if it opens after MoM.
