Giving the theming elements a shot now. I'll likely get to wherever they are in the most recent aerials and update when we get new ones.

I've thought about the idea of being trapped before the drop but I think the building is going to be a wide open inside as they're using coated black steel instead of the traditional metallic finish. I think the coated steel is to make it less visible in the dark.

I wonder whether they can actually choose fireproofing to go along with theming.. i guess a simple black v white color choice it relatively feasible

I just cruised by Nassal Co. Nothing to see there. So I'm camped out at the Orlando Brewing Co. Taproom across the street from Nassal's backlot waiting for them to build something.

Spotted this heading toward Universal today. I can't think of any other project this could be for right now on property except this one.

These where my exact thoughts. And WHile everyone here will naturally defend it, I think the stops are legit concern. This ride will be fun but it's just Gringotts 2.o. . Gringotts is one of my favorites. I also don't consider Gringotts a coaster coaster. It's a hybrid and thats what this will be too IMO.

Can you see whether you're fairly certain about this being a concrete retaining wall for water towards the right side?

What is this large pipe with a bunch of pipes coming out of it I wonder.

i believe this will be the major retention pond of the area, i wonder if these pipes have something to do with that. I know the water from the high school used to drain into the dueling dragons retention ponds and were being reworked into whatever the new retention ponds were going to go

If you look at the concrete on the footers, they'll all different heights but they all appear to top out on the same level. Where the pond ends is anybody's guess but I don't think it will extend as far as the track near Hogsmeade.



Looking inside the station, I think the confirms a moving walkway otherwise they would have just extended the concrete to where the track is.

It's mindbogglingly how this ride has 2 or even 3 levels that are build.
From the circular building there is a door at the bottom leading to the area under the track that is getting a very special concrete structure build. Under the house like building there is a maintenance floor for the LIM and below that is another area (i'm sure to inspect the footers, like in the other area's).

That was such a good observation that someone (Alicia?) made about the prepainted black steel being used for the drop track building for darkness. It never occurred to me. All the other steel on the project has a galvanized finish.

I think that the GOTG coaster is doing something similar and RnRC did it as well.

I've gone from being not particularly interested in this project to feeling that it could be one of the biggest attractions in not only Universal but across all of the Orlando Parks. Im intrigued to see what comes next, as its looking more and more like theyre extending the grounds of Hogwarts across this attraction to create a realistic blueprint that the ride will follow.

One thing im hoping for, but not expecting, is for them to add a bit more background perspective either between this and FJ to link things together or continuing the Hogwarts towers onto this attraction, is this something anybody is expecting or will the load building for this be a lot more low key than the exterior of FJ?

Into the weeds I go. Does anyone know more about the particular track switches they are using and how it is powered? It appear they slide side to side as oppossed to the rotating track switch used on Everest. How does the slide function and glide?

There's a motor that pushes and pulls the two track pieces back and forth along the rails that they're mounted on. It's basically the same system as standard transfer tracks but with smaller pieces that don't carry a train while in motion.

My interest with the switches on this coaster is that you never see the track split into two separate tracks in front of you.

I had a video but cant's find it. The switch just very quickly slides into place and a pin extends into a hole on the switch/track to lock it in place. When Kingda Ka first opened you could stand in the exit and watch them switch between sides of the station (that's where I have the video from, somewhere...). It's very fast and efficient with one piece of track quickly sliding out and the other replacing it.

The transfer tracks are a little slower!

When Kingda Ka switched it was only a couple of seconds. Of course if something went wrong and the pin didn't line up to lock it, the whole ride ground to a halt...

Does the switch use hydraulics or actuators or something else? It being out in the elements seems dicey to me.

There are several systems, but most I've seen use hydraulics for fast movement.
