What a surprising response from you.

No real choice for the 8th house other than a soundstage.

Yeah, and I'll take four soundstage houses (really five when you consider that parade building typically houses similar quality builds) over three SS's and the JAWS queue. The queues will be... interesting, but an extra SS probably makes it worth it.

If only there was a better house lineup to fill them with...

Agreed. The JAWS house constantly produced mediocre houses, so it'll be nice to have it replaced with a Soundstage house which are generally higher-quality, in my opinion.

Maybe soundstage 23 or 20 will be used to house queues, similar to the set up at HHN18.

I can't find a picture but I found an excerpt from Screamscape about that.

Let's face it, you spend the majority of your time at this event in queue lines, probably at least five or six!! Universal has realized this, and has made some steps to improve that this year. In addition to creating additional Scare Zones and offering more haunted houses than ever before, they employed the use of a sound stage to house portions of the queue for the three sound stage haunts; Creatures, Interstellar Terror, and Body Collectors. All three had different entrance points, but you ended up queuing in a sound stage that was air-conditioned, and had a giant video screen in the middle playing various Halloween themed videos like Michael Jackson's Thriller and other vignettes. It was nice being indoors where it was air-conditioned, but literally with there being so many crowd control barriers forming the queue lines, I felt like we were being herded like cattle at a stock show. It also was really bright with the gymnasium style lights.

I remember that! I don't know if they would have an empty soundstage available this year, with all that they have going on, but it would be nice to have a covered, air conditioned queue area

I loved when they did that and they played house videos and music videos in the queue. Loved doing the Time Warp and hearing Thriller in line.

If they don't do the SS queue it is a semi-valid point that the lines are going to be a bit of a trek.

Can't speak for any of the others but SS23 should be a no go for any type of use unless everything is moved over to HE and Gringotts. SS23 is Potter HQ and has been for months. From scene shooting of queue and ride film to 3D element testing with prototype vehicles 23 is where it's at.

I remember it too, but less fondly. The sheer number of bodies seemed to counteract the air conditioning, and as Lance mentioned, the sense you were cattle being herded was overwhelming. Also the cheesy 80s videos and bright lights took away from the Halloween atmosphere. I much prefer queues with specifically tailored videos (man, that HR Bloodengutz video) or a scareactor--Jack, the Director--just mocking the crowd.

I have no idea what nights you went but I always felt HHN 2008 was a ghost town. 2008 and 2009 you could tell the event was hit hardest by the recession and I remember MANY nights just walking right into houses. I know it got busy a few nights and there were long waits to be had but I just don't think I was there for them and I know I went 6 or 7 nights.

I agree that some house specific videos are better, but I enjoyed the music videos, which is better than the nothing we get on some houses, and it's good to get away from the frequent deluges that I seem to experience all too often at HHN. Especially every opening night I've attended, it's like a curse... It just pours.

Maybe what you're saying is what the majority felt, and the reason that didn't come back. Who knows? If they did bring it back, they could improve upon those specific things, but I have a feeling we won't have that again this year.

BTW, talking about queues and deluges... They need to improve their drainage system behind MiB, too. When it rained, I had water up to my ankles there.

With the Purge being a huge grossing movie for the horror genre (especially for this generation) I can't imagine not seeing a Haunt based off it at Orlando or Hollywood...and I honestly think they could have a lot of fun with it.

Maybe Hollywood but not here...

Not every Horror movie needs to be turn into a maze... Just cause you think its a good idea means it can turn it into a maze...

For sure. And the Purge has a pretty decent premise that has not been explored before with a Haunted House. I think the set up of sirens calling for The Purge and sort of a better be indoors before that curfew tension could rock.

Not every movie or show needs to. But I would rather see a Purge haunt than Walking Dead Again...and it is a money making Universal movie to boot so it makes it more likely.

Halloween Horror Nights is supposed to be scary yes but its also about getting drunk and having fun. I vote yes to the music video soundstage queues.

Usually Universal only uses their properties that are either A)Coming out during or after HHN or B)DVD doing the same.

I don't think having the Purge there will help either. So I don't expect to see it.

It would be similar to Dead Silence in a marketing sense. They can eat up the success of it while continuing to promote it with the dvd release.

Also 2008 featured The Strangers in a scare zone in Orlando. The masks are going to be recognizable on a similar level so I could see them try to fit in somewhere.

Really? HTF drops a gem like that and everyone skips over it? SS23. Some of you may have noticed during the last HHN when the queues went by the doors. The added keypads and id swipes to get in and the notices on the doors about asking security to get you in are worded a big stronger then the other sound stages.

That being said they may have also moved across the street to their old FJ home base (which they have also had tied up for a while).

HTF has said this before a few times.

MAYBE as a scarezone. But the houses have already been finalized, and by all accounts The Purge is not one of them.

Yup. Surprised that the idea is still being thrown around. Unless reliable information is extremely wrong, it's not happening this year.
