Wondering what the metal detector situation is this year ? I had read they were scanning people by the parking garages ?? We will be staying at Hard Rock . . thanks !

If you take the boat, you get scanned at the boat dock (at least RPR had the walk through metal detector while SF had hand held one...we walked from SF because the boats were not running at the time due to lightning, we had a walk through one at the end of the path....I saw the HRH walking path one when we went by the hotel guest HHN entrance, if you walk, you get scanned at the end of the walkway.

Do not know about now, but the rules use to be if the posted wait time was over 30 minutes, you got a return time, if it was posted under 30, you would get to go in the Express line right then.

They'll scan at the new stations in the hub rotunda near the garages. For those staying on site there are stations before entering CityWalk (or if you ride a boat before you get on the boat).

Sorry if this has been asked already, but has anyone figured out what all the stay and scream holding areas are and what houses they lead out to?

Sounds like Hollywood, Finns, Simpsons at least. Can't confirm Diagon yet.

I've been following along on FB and Twitter, sounds like the passes will be given out way more limitedly and instead Universal is requiring people use wheelchairs. Heard even if people have issues with crowded spaces or such they're refunding people instead of giving them accommodations. I hope this is challenged.

NY goes into WD or exorcist.
Kitty goes into AHS.
Diagon goes into Chance.
Springfield goes into tents.

Let's see how tonight goes. They still have time to make some adjustments. I think I should be good for next week, hopefully.

Forgot to ask, how was the weather? Any rain? Was it too hot and humid?

Yes, there are new issues EVERY year, it depends if they're addressed by the second weekend or not. But it's still unacceptable paying customers the first night don't get the best.

A lot of thunder while waiting at the Finns SS, it all looked black and you could smell rain, then it just cleared up lol ... so typical Florida ...

I went the second week last year, with ROF express and had the best time, 3 nights in a row. No long express lines and everything was smooth. I'll see how that goes next weekend. But you're absolutely right, the paying consumer for opening weekend deserve the best too.

Honestly on the whole everything was really great. An experienced HHN fan can of course see the small little issues. Not really a big deal.

Worst was, at Finns they told us to line up as they would let us in and scan passes in 5 minutes, ended up being 25 minutes of standing in the heat.

From what I witnessed last night, that rule is still in effect.

This should not be challenged, if anything, it should be tightened further. Abuse of the program was out of control last year, and even with the changes this year, is still being abused.

This has been one of, if not the, biggest gripes I've had about Universal the last several years. Guests shouldn't be getting an "almost there" product when they're paying triple digits to attend. It's their 26th year. They know what the issues are. They understand and can predict how crowds will move through the park. And, most importantly, they know when opening night is.

Incomplete houses are inexcusable, in my mind. Inoperable effects should be minimal. I have a hard enough time accepting scareactors who are still figuring out what to on opening because I believe they deserve more than half a night, plus EP, of rehearsal. (Ideally, one night of placement, one night rehearsal with your own house, one night of all HHN where the other houses/zones go through everything else, then EP.) But Universal does it because a lot of people don't know any better, and those that do accept it and (many times) endorse it.

This isn't the soft opening of a single ride. This is a separate ticket event where every aspect is typically running 70% on opening night, but guests are still paying top dollar. And it pisses me off, yearly.

Yeah this is a really tough situation. I understand the need to get control of the abuse, but I'm not sure forcing people with a legitimate issue into wheelchairs is a good answer.

It seemed like people were either really happy or really mad.
What a divided year.

It's all gonna end in tears on both sides, it's such a massively complex issue.

What happens when a house has "Technical Issues"?

Are there certain effects that cause the house to go down? I mean I can see if a circuit breaker is blown and the lighting/audio goes out but that just seems unlikely. What is it that causes a house to go down?

If you are in the house when it happens do the lights turn on like a ride and do you get to go through again?

This is the first I have heard of houses having 'technical issues' and closing. Let alone three in one night...

They have to get control. Disney found that out the hard way that people will abuse a system to the breaking point.
I am confused by the idea that having people who can't stand for long periods use a wheelchair is somehow not a reasonable accommodation.
I am also confused by a person who can't handle the crowds in lines, but can go into a crowded loud, intense haunted house? How does that work? A person with sensory issues is fine in the houses, but can't handle the line?
I have held off taking my daughter to his event for years that we could have gone due to her issues with freakin' out. She works at a haunted house, but doesn't enjoy attending them herself. Funny kid.
