No one is arguing that the event shouldn’t be safe. The argument is there have been studies proving plexi doesn’t help much, if not make it worse. Plus as someone that went last year it destroys the fear factor. No one cares when the event is free, but when ppl are spending more than ever the argument is they should disclose this or just require masks. Your tone is completely uncalled for attacking many legacy fans of the event.
Now where is the admin to shut down the plexi talk?
We won’t know until next Friday anyway.

For real, why not just wait until we know for sure. It’s not like people aren’t allowed to express their displeasure about the possibility of it being there. I’m still going to have a good time, like I said before with or without plexiglass. But to have someone say, no you can’t complain about plexiglass when I’m spending a lot of money to go, yeah nah.

I was trying to direct the discussion towards that, "hey we just don't know enough" without shutting down the discussion. We're a week and 90 minutes away from TM previews, 10 days away from opening night. I think the discussion should be tabled for now till people walk through the event even if you're ok with it, indifferent (me), or not happy.

Personally after not having the event for 2 years, I’m gonna enjoy the event no matter what. I would like the plexi not to be there but I’ll take it over nothing. We will all know exactly what the situation is, a week from today, during employee preview. Let’s all just look on the bright side of things and think about how close we are to being in that fog;)

You know, I literally completely forgot what HHN fog smells like...

God I'm so excited.

Edit: removed plexi part, kinda pointless

Apologies. I might have listened to a podcast or something that had a lot of bitching and set me off. Sorry for being a d!ck. That's all on me.

I still can't wait for the event and was complaining about people complaining (Troll Inception???) about security measures as if they were explicitly aimed at curbing their enjoyment.

I hope all the complainers skip the event making shorter lines for my group's week-long trip!

It is possible that some people experienced the plexiglass last year and are simply speaking from personal experience (and everyone is different) in saying that the scare level was dramatically different for them. It's also possible that people are expressing these takes without "crying".

It's also possible to discuss the event without being overly positive about every single aspect while still being a fan and excited for it and without needing to "GET OVER IT!!!!". Blind optimism towards a billion dollar corporation is totally unnecessary and we're all already here because we're clearly fans. Just because we're discussing something doesn't mean it's the end of the world. We can have these discussions rationally without the weird name calling, arguing, and snipes. It's a little exhausting tbh. It's okay to disagree with each other! Especially about something as silly as theme park events.

Is your experience going to the grocery store different now than 2 years ago? Do you have to gauge the risk of entering any social situation differently this year than any other?

Sorry if you have to have plexiglass in your haunted house when I can't see my parents and my kid has to go to a school that mandates no mask when they're too young for a vaccine.

Just trying to add perspective. I know this is an HHN forum and nobody cares about my situation (they shouldn't! I don't care about theirs) but let's not lose track of the fact that HHN exists in this world. 2001 endured 9/11 and Eddie. Everybody lived. We might be in for 2 years of a reduced experience, but it's still an escape.

If Mods want to ban me, go ahead. No hard feelings and I probably deserve it. Just getting ridiculous with the "Call management and tell them how you feel about Plexi!!!" Put your life into perspective and realize the state of the world.

See, this is unnecessarily aggressive for no reason. Not once have I said call management. I think that's silly, as is making a petition over it. I've been on the other side of the guest complaints and would never in a million years be that guest. It doesn't mean we can't discuss the event and our feelings towards it on a discussion board. That's what we're all here for. Not every aspect of an event will draw unanimous praise just like not every new show or ride will draw unanimous praise and that's totally okay! I don't need everyone to agree with my opinions, but we're literally here to discuss our takes about these things.

We've discussed the plexiglass ad-nauseum and that's really not even my concern at this point, but it's worth noting that most people are worried about the safety issues that may be caused by the plexi rather than their own fun looking at past comments. I've lost one person close to me already this year. I promise my perspective is well adjusted.

I'm really more disappointed about the arguing more than anything else. I'm happy you're excited! Genuinely! But it doesn't mean everyone else has to agree and being excited about the same things by any means. I'm a massive jumpy coward when it comes to haunts. I say this every year. Unfortunately, I didn't really jump at all last year and that's okay. I still had a good time with friends. Will I spend as much on a FFP this year as I would without plexi? Probably not. I'll probably get the cheaper FFP this time around and spend more on local haunts and my first trip to Netherworld. And that's completely fine. The event will go on and be a great success and I'll have a great time with friends.

Not everything has to fall into my perfect picture of the event for me to attend. Not everything has to be agreed on by all (and nothing ever will be). This should just be a fun place to discuss it all regardless. Not argue over minute details. You don't need a ban or anything dramatic like that. Just have some fun talks with me! We don't need to agree in order to bond over our love for this crazy event.

Guys. @Joe has already politely asked to table the plexiglass debate at this time. We just don't know what the situation is going to be until employee preview.

As an aside for when this subject inevitably comes up again in a week, we also need to stop the tacit and direct accusations that people who are frustrated with plexiglass and Universal's decision to implement it do not care about performer safety. Plexiglass does not prevent the transmission of aerosols, and unusual configurations can create dangerous airflow patterns. It is fair to wonder if Universal couldn't be taking more proven and reliable steps to maintain guest and performer safety. Guest-on-performer contact is a separate issue, and it's not why any plexi may or may not have been put in place.

Ok, so one year in my haunted house I had an effect that was pretty loud, in short it's an electrical box that makes a loud firecracker-eqsue sound.

The reason I bring it up is because I put it behind a drum shield (basically plexiglass) and sprayed the front with some kind of anti-shine matte varnish that I don't remember the name of (I haven't used the effect for a while cause it hasn't been "in story")

Anyway, I wonder if they are, given more time, going to apply some of these techniques to any plexiglass that may occur in the house

The only issue really is that it's shiny...but there are easy solutions around that

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens

I skimmed the past few pages and couldn't find an answer, but do we think scare zones will operate like normal this year; meaning actors are actively roaming around in their zones, or are most actors just going to be on the elevated stages/platforms with minimum close encounters?

So to take the current conversation in a new way, do we think the theming of food tents to the houses that are close by will continue past this year? Personally I love it, not only bc they look awesome, but because I know when I'm roaming around the park and have a craving for a particular food item I can never remember which food stand has what. Having them be themed will help me remember easily.

It would be nice to see that continue. It's a fun way to add an additional bit of flavor and fun to the event, having these themed food stands.

I don't think it's been discussed anywhere yet regarding how they are planning this. I wouldn't be surprised either way, but again we won't really know until the event begins.

at least for me i feel it will make it easier to find the cart i am looking for. In the past I have had a hard time finding exactly what I wanted between all the lights and fog and noise and stuff and just settle for whatever is closest. But that is just me I can't focus on direction with all that going on lol,.

I think the current postulation is that the ones on ground level will probably be masked and there won't be many of them, then there will be more on stages that may be unmasked. Though, if I recall correctly masks are optional for scareactors? So again I feel this is something we won't really have answered until employee preview night.

I hope so. I've been a strong proponent of them theming everything way more and the fact that they're doing that is awesome. A part of me thinks that it was the extra year they had that allowed them to do this, but I hope I'm wrong and the more interesting theming is a mainstay

I’m hearing some of the houses have lost a significant amount of actors due to the changes made and them holding off telling them. Specifically 2 houses are really suffering and may not operate during the Tm preview. I’ve personally never heard of this or seen this happen. So time will tell. If lots of the actors are jumping ship to HOS I’d be shocked if they didn’t fix the changes.

Well, if they’ve already quit then there won’t be any “fixing” it in a couple of weeks.

More importantly, “jumping ship” to HoS isn’t a guaranteed thing for folks.
