My concern with this is that the scareactors won’t do a good job telling the story. The last few NY zones have had the most atrocious examples of scareactors breaking to socialize with friends, take photos, or goof around.

To earn the theme you’re describing, the scareactors need to be to dedicated to telling that story. The way auditions are just type casting body types and not skill or acting chops has my expectations tempered, even though it sounds like a very cool concept.

Noticed this in vanity ball, too, and that was a scarezone that I dearly loved.

I really hope they find some way to pull back on the scare actors literally just not doing their job. I’d hate to see another great concept go to waste.

We all get distracted sometimes while doing our jobs. Just be a pal and tell them to "Ey! Get back to work". I'm sure they would appreciate the reminder and hop to it.

I feel like one of the biggest appeals to VB for me was how the actors didn’t take it seriously and goofed around with the guests and each other. It wasn’t scary but it definitely was fun and I loved how a lot of the actors would have conversations with you in character. I never saw them hanging around their friends, but that may just be because I got lucky with the times I went.
If Seek and Destroy has the same level of interactivity with the actors as VB did, it may beat out VB for my fav zone. Scarezones aren’t too scary to me so I prefer them when they focus more on being plain fun, and Seek and Destroy is shaping up to be that.

If the aesthetic of the zone wasn’t a big enough tell, the story I’ve heard for this zone does have some fascistic overtones. That said, if they do what I’ve heard they wanted to do, the zone will have enough fantasy/sci-fi integrated into the overall aesthetic to make the tone feel earned instead of cheap.

I’m glad that they’re not skimping on the fascism. It’s a very real and legitimate fear.

Survive of Die was also a very complicated story. Three warring factions with little visual differentiation between them with a side focus of recruiting.

Seek and Destroy is far more straightforward. There are oppressive aggressors. We (and some scareactor victims obvs) are their victims. Easy.

Maybe I got lucky, but I never saw this in Survive or Die.

Heck, one of the reasons Survive or Die is my all-time favorite is because the faction that was out to get the machine (the one with Mother) did a very fun and immersive event where they chose me to lead a charge to the machine.

Vanity Ball was WILDLY underwhelming as a scarezone. The lackadaisical attitude of certain performers didn't help either. It's truly my worst rated Zone in the past few years.

With the amount of props/structures going up in NY and the giant truss structure in Plaza of the Stars, I think we're seeing the benefit zones are getting from having an extra year to work on them.

Though speaking of props in NY, I'm curious to see how Stay and Scream is gonna' happen this year since both the Onimog and former Raptor Encounter fence is right in the holding pen for the houses/where people exit.

I've done multiple nights of the final week each of the years I've gone and to the best of my memory, the only times I ever saw actors chatting with each other o-o-c were singular instances in Chucky, Vamp '85, and HellBilly. The entire last week of 29, my friends and I spent more time in Vanity Ball than any other zone and had only extraordinarily positive in-character interactions with every cast member on-duty. That being said, Vanity Ball's premise leant itself to scareactors chatting with each other, feeding into the ball party atmosphere, so I may simply have not noticed pairs or groups chatting while mingling myself.

Despite the few times I've seen cast members chatting o-o-c, those are far outweighed by and way less annoying than the times I've seen young or inebriated guests verbally harass and make rule-breaking contact with scareactors. So a little watercooler time hasn't hurt anything for me.
