You did mention that it does follow the vibe of a soundstage house though, right? Does that mean it’s going to have a story to it? Like, you’ll kinda understand the progression of events as you go through the house?
It has a very clear progression.

EDIT - Most tent houses are fairly “environmental” or “theme” focused. They establish a setting, determine a monster, and that’s basically it. Scarecrow is midwest farm and scarecrows. Depths of Fear is underwater base and mutants. In-Between is hell dimension and demons. Etcétera etcétera. There may be a loose “story” within the setting, but the setting is the focus. Even some of the IP houses they’ve done have gone that route.

Wicked Path isn’t like that. There are varied locations and you are, basically, walking a path into the realm of the Pumpkin King.

The whole house is firmly positioned in the real world. Don’t expect anything too fantastical.

HHN 20 and 30 are definitely going to be opposite for each other in a lot of ways, I think this year will be it’s own thing, 20 was darker, not saying 30 might not be but who knows what can happen.

From what I have heard I’d expect 30 to be darker. With the exception of Beetlejuice I think the “HHN is kid friendly” talk won’t be a issue this year...

Not entirely sure what you guys mean by one year being "darker" (is that overall theme or tone of the theme/houses?), but 30 certainly has a chance of having better houses. While 20 had a few stand-out houses (Catacombs overall, and the casts of Havoc.), a lot of the others fell into overhype and didn't turn out like people were hoping they would've. 20's Psychoscarepy is regarded as the weakest, Legendary Truth had an amazing idea-yet-wasn't the grand slam it could've been, Hades suffered from budget cuts which included Hades himself!

Meanwhile for me, both Bride of Frankenstein and Tooth Fairy were really solid (and that's just in pandemic mode.), so if the other houses are at that level or higher, it's boding well for 30 being a really fun year.

Not knocking the people you quoted, but people tend to say that the earlier years of HHN were "darker"

Ironically they cite the Icon years

But then I remember Treaks and Foons and the goofy supervillain land and I have to disagree

The same year they introduced Caretaker with torture devices in the main entrance plaza, decapitated a triceratops, and killed Captain America, they had Fear Factor with stuffed fish.

Nostalgia is weird... especially when it comes from people who never experienced what they’re nostalgic for.

Side note - Does anyone have any footage of the Fear Factor house? I've only heard the stories and I want to see it so bad.

It was a (predominantly) blackout house, so there’s nothing much to really see. Apart from the Phobics.

Hang some fishing line in a dark room and you get the gist

I've been going since 2001...and I've never really noticed a change in dark vs family vs intense

It has always been dictated by the house or zone's theme

I'll be honest, it wasn't very memorable.

I think the Rat Lady was in there and there were blasts of air

But I may be thinking of Maximum Carnage with the air blasts, idk

Fear Factor had the inflatable hallway (claustrophobia), stuffed fished, fishing line (for spiders), a chain link hallway with a paw swipe for dogs, Rat Lady and the Phobics, some other weirdness, and ended with the drop bridge.

Honestly, the scariest thing about the house was the a-hole bush scare from the JP zone who parked themselves right at the house exit.

That can be applicable for many things! An for those who did experience something, they can roll with rose-colored glasses because it was -their- nostalgia, and that was in their minds, the -best- version of that nostalgia. I remember seeing someone way back clamor for the days of 15...even though that year wasn't the best when it came to houses as Cold, Blind, Terror and Rat Run says hello.

An speaking of houses, I think it's safe to say that the overall quality of houses nowadays are better than the icon years from 15-earlier. Since when I look at what the weakest houses were for 2018 and 2019, at least HoB Vol 2 and Depths of Fear had nice set designs, you can't say the same for the blackout houses, Disorientum etc.
