Can't believe we're gonna get a C.H.U.D. show on the Beat Builders stage.

I just thought of something else: if they choose to market H3, it’s going to be difficult no matter which route they take:

Throwing in MM will put off fans of H3...not including MM will confuse the GP...and dropping “Halloween III” from the title and calling it “Season of the Witch” will confuse everyone who hasn’t seen it because it has nothing to do with witches (other than the one mask)!

I’m still betting they take the HHNH route and make it an original concept set in H3.

I doubt there's a world where Universal would drop the "Halloween III" from the title even if they wanted to, for several reasons. Intellectual property licenses tend to be very specific in how franchises and characters are portrayed, and there would likely be a stipulation requiring that the full title must be used. I'm sure Universal would have loved to drop the "4" in Halloween 4 - who cares about Halloween 4 outside of franchise diehards? - but keeping that number distinguishes it from the original Halloween and its remakes/new sequels, which Universal cannot use or associate themselves with.

Furthermore, we forget there's another 70s cult movie called Season of the Witch... so simply calling the maze "Season of the Witch" would likely create other concerns beyond guest confusion.

It's all a moot point, I think, because I suspect you are right: Orlando will follow Hollywood's lead and create a pseudo-original story set in the world of Halloween III that happens to feature Michael Myers, who will be included with the license. This is a total guess, but the plot could involve the coven's activity opening a portal in which The Shape emerges to wreak havoc on what remains after the Silver Shamrock massacre. They will likely be limited to environments and character specifically associated with Halloween III (meaning probably no Loomis or Laurie).

Orlando has a track record of creating these pseudo-original workarounds that let them play with franchise toolboxes: Alien vs. Predator and Freddy vs. Jason both mostly ignored their underlying films and instead used their characters and environments to make something new.

Thanks to whomever mentioned that AP hotel rates were available for HHN dates. I just booked Portofino Bay for 9/15 - 9/17 and Sapphire Falls for 10/20 -10/22 and 10/27 - 10/29. I usually book Hard Rock for a couple of nights, but there were only expensive suites available for two of the dates, and Sapphire Falls was just too cheap to pass up for the third dates.

This brings up another question: how are they able to license a property, but create a pseudo-original. If contracts are that specific, wouldn’t they be discouraged from doing so?

I don’t have specific insight for HHN/Universal’s process but in general licensees will pitch their idea to the licensor on what they plan to do with the rights before any contracts are ever signed. If the licensor likes the idea or doesn’t really care, they’ll give permission. And if not, the plan gets scrapped. In this case, I’d imagine that Universal pitches the original concept and the licensors sign off.

Universal’s run into problems with this before I think based on rumors around Scream from 2015. It seems like they secured the rights on an agreement to use the TV show in some capacity, which they either didn’t know or ignored completely and made a house based on the movie instead. Rights holders found out, were super pissed they ignored the agreement and cancelled the rights last minute.

(If this was wrong please let me know, I’d love to know the actual story!)

In Halloween’s case, it helps that Universal itself appears to have some stake in the rights for both II and III, which means a crossover based on those incarnations a bit easier.

So it's definitely same to assume that there's already house blueprints made up for dozens of licenses they haven't been able to get yet, huh? This stuff is so interesting.

Maybe not full blueprints, but certainly scenarios, scene descriptions and concept art. If the rights weren't a nightmare I bet it would all make a beautiful coffee table book.

There was a concert yesterday here in Austin and it felt like the good old times. Very stoked to see WWE here in July as well.

I’m sure someone out there is, but it should be 100% obvious now. I mean, it’s basically going to be normal at the parks tomorrow.

The final thing that will convince me is when guests are allowed to take photos with mascots/characters standing right next to you again with no barricades/platforms.

That’s actually a pretty good point. Hadn’t thought about that since I never think about meet and greets

I just purchased tickets for a concert at the Hollywood Bowl here in LA for Sept. I’m willing to bet both coasts will have normal HHNs this year.

I'm not betting anything at this moment but things look better than they were a month ago.
