I loved the Shining! I went alone using Express early on and got smacked with every single scare

You can't judge a house entirely by a video. Watching a video of it on YouTube vs actually going through it are two completely different things. Also I know a lot of people here weren't the biggest fans of last year, but the reviews weren't "poor". Especially with the houses.

Then I feel bad for you because that's a dumb thing to do. I mean yeah, you can do that, but it also makes your opinion on these things null and irrelevant. It's stupid. No offense.

it's not about writing a full review or anything. but on how things look in general. same thing with a museum or something ( online virtual tours do exist for museums) look at the dark universe land, even from aerial photos it looks incredible already.
are the pyramids in Egypt amazing looking? I say yes. but never been. same with Stonehenge.
( the streets of hhn last year didn't look that good. )

Yes - but someone who’s visited the pyramids would probably have more to tell about their experience while also appreciating it more.

you don't need to have an opinion on everything. it's okay to just not have a take on stuff you haven't experienced.

yeah but my original post was that last year could have had things as equally bad as other years, when I was originally replying to saint.
in context, my original point was about how others were comparing last year to other years. and also a comparison on reviews from people between different years.
and last year had more "not good" reviews compared to others. I did see more negative reviews of last year compared to others.
i know I didn't visit, but everyone I talked to had some problems with last year. specially when people were comparing it to other hhn years.

in context, I was saying how last year had complaints that were equal to other years considered "bad"

Probably more telling that first and second timers were the ones declaring it great, while those of us across social media who've been 5, 10, (gulp) 20+ years found it lacking.

But other than the nearly complete lockdown on info -- nice job, Universal, this is truly a first in the Internet era -- not sure why we're rehashing 33 in the 34 Spec Thread,

HHN33 was my 8th event - it's not near the top of my ranking, but it's not at the bottom either.

And yeah, Universal is doing everything they can to kill spec threads forever (@Brian G. is really the one behind it!)

I get what you’re saying kind of. I always watch YouTube videos of the scarezones before I go, and am able to gauge the quality of them in a general sense. I don’t spoil the houses, though one of my favorite houses ever (Graveyard Games) looks like shite on camera because it was a really dark house.

I've been going for awhile now (2024 was my 6th year attending Orlando, 4th year for Hollywood) and I thought it was a great year. The scarezones were a little redundant and a bit "been there done that" (Torture Faire was great though, I also enjoyed Demon Queens) but I thought the houses were all pretty good except for Museum. The overall theming was a mess though (punk aesthetic but no actual punk scarezone, Sinister/Surreal not matching that theming) but it didn't bother me as much as it did for others I guess.

Just a note here (and I spoil myself by watching the videos EVERY year lol): Any of the house walkthrough videos from Orlando are filmed on media access night at the very beginning of the season. I can attest as a Halloween week visitor that house elements can undergo small QoL changes from that opening night to the last 2-3 weeks. Sometimes these changes are for the worse (damaged setpieces come to mind), but sometimes they are changes for the better (added/repositioned actors, additional SiF, pretty much the entirety of Depths of Fear lol, etc...) too!

I've learned to separate the different aspects of the event to better compare between years.

HHN 33
Aesthetic/Overall Ambience - not HHN, felt like Grad Bash
Merch & Tribute Store - great use of space/design... horrible merch design
Houses - just ok, saved by one solid house
Zones - not great
Entertainment - solid, but getting stale

It was a very similar year to HHN 27, where the overall aesthetic and design of the year was all over the place. The exception is that we had 3 killer houses (AHS, Dead Waters, Scarecrow) that year versus only 1 this past year.

I can vouch for this. I told my friend how great the house was, pulled up a POV and said "well that does it no justice."

The scare actors also always get better with time as well.

I’m the opposite. I try to see as LITTLE as possible before I go. That’s why I usually try to go one of the first weekends of the event. I like the element of surprise.
