My guess is they either intentionally or unintentionally bought a stock asset that was created through an LLM. That's what happened for Hollywood's Dead Exposure house. In this instance, someone in a position to make things happen bought a new/better asset and replaced it. I'll take the win.

Same, several members of the Visual Merchandising team were quite irked by that, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were able to have a hand in getting it replaced.

Anyone happen to check out the Artista podcast and have an opinion on if it’s relatively spoiler free? If it’s more focused on the narrative / lead up to the story, I think it’s probably worth listening to.

Podcast is spoiler-free for the house, much more focused on the backstory/narrative of the house + event in general, and even ends with a pretty big lore revelation.

Ok so I just saw club horror in action and I am genuinely perplexed at what exactly uni was thinking with the execution of this area. The most obvious miss is the little bar with the huge line that will jet out into the main area/walkway, but most confusing part is dance floor area. There are either one of two things that come from what they set up, a huge group of people dancing in front of the stage which puts a big obstacle right smack dab in the middle of the walkway, or everyone just walks through, but then the “club” aspect goes out the window and there is nothing to look at? I’m just super confused because generally from what I’ve seen from the rest of the event, it looks like such a cohesive presentation (on the streets) with a very specific overall vibe uni was going for, and then just club horror? I totally get the appeal for alcohol sales and trying to recreate a vibe like the weekend brought or even bring some of the dead coconut club vibe into the park, but this just feels like a huge miss that’s highlighted by how cohesive the rest of the event feels

Great idea, execution is questionable.

The whole point of removing a scare zone there is to improve congestion/crowd flow.... but they end up putting a giant DJ stage and dance platform smackdab in the middle. I would have assumed they would move all of that off to the side (across the bar) to invite people over there, not in the main pathway.

I was able to attend the preview last night.

I am probably not the best person for comments because I have never been to this event in the past and I'm actually not a huge horror fan at all but I love themed entertainment design.

I was able to do 6 houses, missing FNAF, Fallout, Grave of Flesh and Terrifier.

Some non-spoiler quick thoughts:

El Artista was stunning and by far my favorite of the night. It was a full on storyline and the sets were large and impressive. Had more variety in terms of the jumps. I was really amazed at how it told a cohesive story (for me at least) in basically 3 acts, like a mini movie. And this coming from something who knew nothing more than a painter basically. For me, just heads and shoulders ahead of the others.

Galkn, I am going to guess, will be the sleeper hit of the event. The set design was clever, the monsters were interesting and varied and the finale was the best ending of the evening. One thing that perhaps isn't the best is that because of the lighting your attention is brought to the ceiling which makes it a bit less immersive. A couple of big set pieces here really surprised me. Also had a nice progression in terms of storyline.

Hatchet and Chains was also very impressive with a unique point of view. Had a mix of effects. There was a specific effect towards the end I had to stop to see cause I was going to miss it due to the reset time and it was my favorite in the house, so I wonder how much reviews my be affected by that. If I had a major complaint it was that i found the story hard to track and it felt chaotic, but that might have just been me.

Dolls let's Play Dead. I have a feeling this one will be quite polarizing. For me, I actually found this the most intimidating just cause it was really twisted in how it portrayed someone torturing their toys and I found myself getting into the storytelling. There were a lot of surprises for me throughout this one and I liked the dark humor. If I had a complaint about this one is that I don't really remember the ending exactly, it just sort of stopped. Maybe I missed something.

Jason Universe just wasn't for me but I imagine it ranking high for most. It had a ridiculous amount of Jason actors and it was absolutely relentless. If you enjoy an aggressive house, this is the one (of the ones I did). For me, it's just a bit repetitive and I don't have affinity for the character. And the setting was a campground for the most part (although there is a rather strange and abstract twist for the finale) It's the only one I don't really have any desire to repeat but again I'm not the audience. Everyone else seems to love it which makes sense.

The Horrors of Wyatt Sicks is the one that was the biggest head scratcher for me but I don't know anything about it at all. The sets were quite impressive and all but I really wasn't the audience. That being said the production value was high enough that I would like to do it again, if anything just to try to make more sense of it. Lol.

I actually really enjoy seeing fresh perspectives on the event, most of us have been for years if not decades, it's nice to get out of the milieu of negativity from people who don't realize they're burnt out yet.

I'm very excited to go tomorrow, did you happen to catch any of the shows?

So I see stay and scream is different, I like how it is being done now, but do we know what time each house will open? Like which line would be best to get into because the house opens earlier?

At the preview event FNAF, Fallout and Terrifier were the busiest.

C'mon, Universal. Was it not this easy? It looks this easy.

I LOVE that you're -more or less- apathetic toward the horror genre but going to horror nights, it's such a reality check for us weirdos. Please do the Terrifier house :lmao: If you get the chance, i'm sure i'm not the only one who would get a kick out of your thoughts!

We’re assuming the goal was to improve congestion/ crowd flow. The execution suggests this may not be the case.

Yes I was pretty nervous about doing Terrifier not gonna lie because I tend to pretty squeamish.

I totally understand that for us to have gotten the quality in all the other zones this year, something was going to have to be sacrificed from a budget standpoint, and just from an outside visual perspective, it is club horror to me. I’m just questioning why the choice was made to either be a full on roadblock for one of the bottlenecks in the park, or if it was meant to just be something that people walk through, why not keep up with the conservatory vibe, it all just seems very break neck. I would think that putting some mood lighting and just having another “roaming”(but generally would have stuck around the San Fran/waterfront) and then have the same bar that was out of the way would have flowed better and probably would have made the event feel even more expansive. Idk maybe the bar didn’t do as well because it was tucked away hence why they brought it out into the main area but every time I’d go back to that bar in past years it would be pretty busy
