I like Hellraiser but I just saw it fully this past year for first time and I’m 49. What will the kids think of that and Ozzy, not sure. They’ll have fortnightmares and ST5 I guess. I trust Uni but the presentation of the originals this year so far has been weak to me. It’s early though and we’re thirsty.

I’m 53 and just watched Hellraiser for the first time too. Not what I expected but I liked it. I could almost see this being a campy house with some of the designs of the cenobites or maybe that’s just the movie showing its age. I’ll probably watch at least the 2nd one too as I’ve heard it’s pretty different from the original.

I have a feeling...and it's just speculation based off the timing...that the Hellraiser house is going to be directly related to the new video game coming out and will be more serious in tone, not campy.

This is how I think they may be able to get round any (film) copyright situations – I'm not sure who owns what films now, but the most recent movie was with Hulu/Disney.

Right, and the video game (Hellraiser: Revival) is set to come out in October of this year so it makes total sense for it to be an adaptation of the game that they can cross promote/market.

the second one might as well have been called PART TWO because it's just a direct continuation of the first. I don't think it's different at all. The third is wildly different than the first two. The fourth is even more out there. Going any further than the 4th is an exercise in absurdity.

Hellraiser's presence at HHN is enough to cross-promote and market the game without the house being based off of Revival, though. I have a feeling we're getting the first and second movie and that's it. You don't vie for a white-whale OG classic IP like Hellraiser and then not give us the stuff that's been around the longest and most recognizable to the GP that drives an event like this. The only way i see it being Revival and NOT the movies is if THAT was the only way for them to get around copyright or licensing issues like @dscott suggested.

For the record, i'm super excited for the game and i plan on buying it and playing it the minute it comes out - but i wouldn't necessarily want to go through a house based off of it before i have the ability to play it and see what it's all about.

So which of the original houses do we think will be Camp houses? (those usually turn out to be my favorites...)

J/O will not be camp...
Blood n Guts will most likely have camp elements
Invasion has big camp possibilities
Cannibals I think will NOT be campy
Cyborg I'm not sure about, could go either way, but I'm leaning NOT campy...

Thoughts?

They've actually explicitly said that Invasion will NOT be campy

Some of the storyboards and concept art we've seen for Jack VS Oddfellow actually suggests it has the ability to be very campy. That Jack game-show scene is like the definition of camp when it comes to HHN.

Other than that, H.R. Bloodengutz's house is also going to be several degrees of camp. I'm pretty sure there are active rumors of a Monster Mash tiki-bar sing-along scene.

EDIT: I don't think the other three are going to be campy at all, with maybe the exception of Madlands having people playing people pretending to be animals to maybe some humorous effect.

They used Monster Mash in callbacks this year, having the actors lip-sync to the song, however, I was told it was basically a filler song picked because it was supposedly a universally known Halloween song... however they had issues where basically no one under 35 knew the song...

But you could be right, it could be in the house....

This lines up with how I feel. H.R. Bloodengutz is very much -the- campy house as it lines up with the previous house. And I can see Jack vs Oddfellow being campy here and there, not just from one of the visuals they teased, but also them mentioning that Oddfellow will be narrating the house...until Jack butts in and takes over etc., and that's camp in itself.

The other three are very much played serious, Invasion especially which they've explicitly stated as such. As for Madlands, once again it's really gonna' ride on how the cannibals look.

And in unrelated discussion, it seems there's been a bit of chatter on the location of a few houses.
Over on HHN Wiki, they're listing H.R. Bloodengutz in Sprung 2, and Cybergoria in the F&F location. Thinking on it, it could check out? Sprung 2's facade could set up another big screen to play the queue video for Bloodengutz. And with Cybergoria they did mention in the interview that we will leave the facility to see the world outside...and that's something that could be played up with the transition outdoors for the F&F location.

HHN is the biggest money maker in the company’s portfolio. It’s attendance and overall spending can be down a couple of basis points and completely alter the company’s quarterly and even annual earnings outlook.

Given how important the event is to its bottom line and overall guest experience you’re gonna tell me that you can’t muster up the payroll to add a couple of salaried team members to the crew. Team members whose only focus year round is to develop a HHN website that lines up the themes, announcements and overall lore of the event?

God I’ll love a website again. We get close to nothing now for a website. I guess tho it comes down to them just not needing. Us fans who want a website and would love it will go to the event with or without a website. The GP will probably not even know there is an website or if they do know not care about it. They might visit it to but tickets but that’s it and that’s assuming they don’t buy at the gate/hotels. For the houses and event info. they will just go to twitter. Social media acts like the website.

The days of “here’s a site with deep lore and easter eggs and additional stories” are long gone. It would be nice if someone could post the key art and update the house list on the ticketing site at the very least.

I'm not sure, but I think (and hope...) that the new game veers more towards the work and look of the original two movies. I'm excited to see an OG horror icon at the event though, I think it makes a difference.
