I’m a big fan of Pooka, on Hulu. Still haven’t see the sequel though. I’m also pretty high on straight to VOD indie horror.

Existence
The Devil’s Pass
Don’t Leave Home

All sit as stand-outs for me. Especially Don’t Leave Home.

Isn't Pooka that little Chuck E Cheese looking short?

It’s one of Hulu’s “Into the Dark” Blumhouse originals, and it’s centered around a Furby-esque toy. It’s remarkably psychological though, and far better than it really needs to be.

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is considered quintessential Halloween viewing, and for good reason of course.

But it irks me every year that people keep forgetting about the 80's Garfield Halloween special. The two of them make for a perfect double feature.

I'll go so far as to say the Garfield one is superior.

Anyone have any good horror book recommendations? I'm going to start the short story collection "North American River Monsters" tonight when I get home from work now that I finished the newest Dresden Files (DM me if you're up to date, I'm dying to talk to someone about it).

Anything by Bentley Little. The Collection is a great anthology, with two of the best stories being THE WASHINGTONIANS, where we learn the Founding Fathers were sadistic cannibals, and history professors protect us from the lunatics with wooden teeth who keep the secret, and The Colony, where an incoming President learns we're secretly still under British rule. His novels kind of follow a formula, that of "What if X were run by Satan/monsters/demons?" I recommend starting with The Resort or The Store for a good intro. He has the Stephen King seal of approval, which ought to be good enough for anyone.

I recently finished Tender is the Flesh, which was incredible. I’m currently reading The Only Good Indians, which is similarly good (so far—I’m only about a third of the way through).

But I really can’t recommend Tender is the Flesh enough. It’s one that will stick with you.

Ready Or Not is streaming on HBO Max (and amazon?) and its a very fun Horror Comedy that came out last summer. Easy 90 min watch under the influence, or not, and a fun date night film for any couple. Its essentially hide and seek the horror comedy. Definitely leans more comedy with Horror elements. Wouldn't be shocked if many others here have seen it, but I find it to be a good rec these days!

I actually picked it up on your recommendation in the HHN thread, it's next on my list after NARM. Everything on my reading list got pushed back a bit when Battle Ground came out.

I saw it and theaters (remember those?!) and loved Ready or Not. The production design of the mansion and the characters were so good as well as the writing.

Couldn’t agree more! I think this is such a lowkey hit that I feel many haven’t seen so I wanted to say it, even if I’ve said it before possibly haha. It’s fun, 90 min, couldn’t ask for more honestly

I need to add “Summer of ‘84” to the list.

And “Resolution.”

And “Spring.”

That one didn't do much for me. Might I recommend SCARE PACKAGE.

Seconding the suggestion of Spring, it’s one of my favorites.

What We Do in the Shadows needs to be on this list, both the movie and the show.

I did a double feature today: House on Haunted Hill (1999) . It has a cameo from Islands of Adventure and overall a silly over the top 90s horror vibe.

Our second movie was 1993's Hocus Pocus. Can't go wrong with the movie either. My wife isn't a huge horror fan so it was a fun palette cleanser for her.

I had no idea this thread existed, but I've been in major horror movie mode since the last week of September. A mix of new-to-me movies and rewatches (trying to weight more towards the former than the latter), and tonight was my 44th movie so far, which was BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA. It's probably the most visually ambitious and adventurous film that Francis Ford Coppola has ever made. Just a stunning movie to look at.

I'm watching so many movies that I'd end up taking over the thread if I posted about them all, but if any end up particularly noteworthy, I'll drop in some recommendations.

Underrated movie. The original Vincent Price version is also a lot of fun.

the TUBI tv free app has a much better selection of horror movies than Hulu or Netflix, there are so many older horror movies like WAXWORK or DAGON or all the Dark Shadows episodes
theres hundreds of movies if you search beyond the first page
