HOUSES:
1. Jason Universe - It’s been a long time since we’ve had a solo Friday maze, especially with one harking back to the originals. Excited to return to Crystal Lake!

2. Terrifier - I hate this IP but it’s the only thing here that truly feels like horror AND we haven’t seen before. Begrudgingly, it just might be the saving grace of the event.

3. Five Nights at Freddy’s - Conceptually this has potential to be fun. Or a dud. But my hope is this will be the Killer Klownz of the year with a nice blend of kitzchiness, comedy, and horror.

4. Monstrous 3 - The finale of the trilogy? My hope is they truly bring it. La Llorona’s repeat a few years ago didn’t really work for me, so I’m hoping there’s something new here to give it a bit more bite.

5. Fallout - Eh, this might work, and if anything, will hopefully have good set design.

6. The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks - I love WWE but I don’t think these characters (as they’re presented on WWE programming at least) have much to offer (they’ve literally been gone for most of the year). We’ll see what’s cooked up in here.

7. Terror Tram - This was my fav thing last year. I loved the layout and it has a lot of potential. Just seems lazy though in the grand scheme of the event filled with other repeats or lackluster IPs.

8. Poltergeist - There’s been a tiny bit of distance to it, my only hope is there is an improvement from the previous maze.

9. Scarecrow - This probably would be one spot higher if it wasn’t at Vegas but oh well.

ZONES:
1. Noche de Brujas - This street is always rocking and I like the witches concept. Should be fun.

2. Murder of Crowz - Sad it's not the lower lot, but should be fun with new characters.

3. Chainsaw Clownz - Honestly the NY Street has become so similar every year that it almost means nothing to me now, but resorting back to Clownz is a shame. At least there’s some tie in with Terrifier but cmon.

4. Carnival of Carnage - Entry zones always suck.

1) Five Nights at Freddy Hands down....it's going to have Animatronics, Puppets, great sets and might feel like walking through a Dark ride
2) Terrifier not a fan of the films but....I think its going to work well. Like it will be a PG version of the films and interested to see how they do it
3) Fallout Love the IP and excited for the Puppets and amazing costumes and hopefully some really great sets
4) Jason Excited we have one of the Big three back and its not a repeat house, should be a really fun time excited to see the sets and locations
5) Scarecrow I just hope the sound track works well with the house but I remember liking this house a few years back so hoping its still great,
6) Terror Tram - I never don't like the Terror tram and since its not just a repeat from last year and Insdious is coming makes me hope the house if even better then last year,
7) Monstrous 3, I enjoyed the last two houses and really hoping we get another podcast with the backstory for this house. They did a great job on that last year
8) Poltergeist I hear good things but no real hype for this one yet
9) The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks. I think this house will be wayyyyyyy more fun then I'm feeling it will be, I'm just not a fan of WWE or the people who own it so just no hype for me but once again very open for the house to surprise me...which I think it will.

ScareZones

Noche de Brujas I'm excited to see what kinda theming we get on the French street
Crowz Just for me these are USH mascots or at least big lore characters and love seeing them and their friends each year
Carnival of Carnage Please be creative and don't suck
Chainsaw Clownz Same as above

1. Terrifier- Murdy's bread and butter has always been taking iconic slashers and giving them a greatest hits approach to their franchises. Art the Clown is arguably the biggest slasher in decades, and none of his movies are difficult to translate to a haunted house setting. Hoping for tons of nasty gore, water effects, and Art and Co popping out of every hidey hole possible.

2. FNAF- One thing Hollywood actually excels in compared to our Orlando counterparts is the integration of puppets and animatronics in our haunts. Very excited to know they worked directly with Henson's studio to bring the full-scale characters to the event. Even if it's not scary, I think it'll be super cool as a walk through attraction for fans of the series.

3. Jason Universe- Murdy's strong suit yet again is his love of the classic slashers. This being another "greatest hits" approach to the Friday franchise means we'll see plenty of familiar gags and kills, but isn't that what everyone comes for in the first place?

4. Wyatt Sicks- I don't know anything about wrestling but I have looked up Bray Wyatt and this mythology. I know he wanted to be a part of HHN so badly and this is actually a very endearing tribute to him. The actual characters seem like they'll offer plenty of variety and scares, I'm just worried for any performers in this house who'll have meatheads stepping up to them all night.

5. Fallout- I watched the first season recently and think the settings and characters translate perfectly to a haunt. I'm just scared for Hollywood's ability to pull off these sets, hopefully I'm proven wrong.

6. Monstruous 3- Shouldn't this be called Fantasmas since it's all ghosts? Love La Llorona but talk about overexposed, I'm betting 60% of this maze will reuse sets and costumes from the previous iteration. That other horse headed ghost is literally just horse head La Llorona but with a new name, which is what this house really feels like.

7. Scarecrow- I was in the original cast back in 2022 and thought it was the best original concept Hollywood's done in a while, but I'm just not excited to see it return after only a couple of years.

8. Poltergeist- This was one of those miserable haunts from 2017-2021 that was just 60% black walls. Great finale but the endless black wall boo box scares is grating. Hoping to be proven wrong.

9. Tram- Such a waste of space, really wish we would stop doing it but whatever.

Mine is a bit screwy because I only started going back to Hollywood in 2023, so some of the repeats are less bothersome for me than others. I am also largely repeating the comments I made for the shared IP houses in the Orlando thread:

1. Terrifier – The first time I went to Halloween Horror Nights was in 2008 in Hollywood, when they had Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface, and the right IPs still have the ability to excite me like nothing else. Slasher movies are comfort food, and Terrifier really is the first major slasher franchise made by people of my generation, based on their love of the same movies I grew up watching. This is really a tight race between Terrifier and Jason Universe, but what gives this the slight edge is that Damien Leone and the filmmakers are involved here, so I think it will feel like the true Terrifier experience. Should be gnarly, funny, weird - exactly the mix of gore, extremity, and humor I like.

2. Jason Universe – Hand in hand with Terrifier - I always am thrilled when we get one of the OG slashers, and I can't believe we get two big slasher icons in one year. Jason Universe could easily go to #1 if it is handled properly, because the mythos of these movies - silly and generic as they are - is really deeply ingrained for me. Plus, Camp Blood was one of the first houses I ever did at HHN way back in 2008! I do have some concerns about the Jason Un1v3rse IP issue turning this a bit generic, but I think there is so much potential, and I am so excited we get Jason back.

3. Scarecrow – I fully understand why this might be at the very bottom of some people’s lists. I did not get to do Scarecrow in 2022, and so I am really excited to see Hollywood’s version of this house, notwithstanding the fact that a version will be in Vegas, that is a repeat, and that Slash seems like the wrong choice to score an eerie, Dust Bowl house. I think all of those are legitimate criticisms, but I am frankly feeling lucky to get the chance to do Hollywood’s Scarecrow firsthand. Plus, after TCM was easily my favorite house last year—in either Hollywood or Orlando—I have some residual fondness for the T-Pad location. J

4. Monstruous 3 – I could imagine this one slipping down the list, because the set of monsters they have this year are a little bit less exciting for me—there is no one who quite reaches the El Silbón or El Cucuy level in this trio—but right now, I am pretty excited for it. I found the first two Monstruous houses to be really strong (my second favorite each year in Hollywood, after Chucky and TCM), and so I have every reason to believe that this one will be really fun too. I fully understand if people are getting burned out on Monstruous, but I think that Hollywood’s version of the Cemetery of the Lost and everything is cozy, fun, and comfortingly familiar.

5. Poltergeist – As with Scarecrow, I could easily see this being lower if I had done the Hollywood version of Poltergeist. Since I did not get the chance, I think this will be a lot of fun to experience. Poltergeist is not one of my favorite classic horror films but it is a classic, and I look forward to experiencing the Hollywood version (though the dreaded black wall issue is certainly a potential negative).

6. WWE: The Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks - I am not a big wrestling fan, and so WWE would be my easy last place in most circumstances. If, for example, there was an actual wrestling ring and a lot of wrestling lore, it wouldn't be for me. But it seems like what they are doing instead is drawing on the mythology that Bray Wyatt created, and the designs of the Wyatt Sicks gives me very strong Rob Zombie / Firefly Family vibes, which is much more appealing. If this has the Louisiana cult aspect, the grimy Rob Zombie aesthetic, and the creepiness of the Fiend's Exorcist-like Let Me In demands, it could actually go much higher on my list.

7. Five Nights at Freddy's - The movie is really not very good, sanitizing the animatronics and injecting far too much plot into a very simple premise. While Matthew Lillard is one of my favorite actors, and he is awesome - so a Matthew Lillard stand-in and Springtrap villain are cool in my book - I worry this house is going to get muddled down by the movie's plot, especially since featuring a fake version of Josh Hutcherson and the ghost kids would be a way to save on budget but still follow the movie. With all that said, I am still excited, because I played the first game earlier this summer in anticipation of the house, and it was pretty good; if FNAF is closer to the original game - claustrophobic, uncanny valley, jump scares from the animatronics themselves - it could be really cool.

8. Fallout - I watched the TV show and enjoyed it, but I don't have a deep connection to the franchise. This is much more appealing to me than some of the IPs from recent years like A Quiet Place or Stranger Things, but it winds up on the bottom just because I think this is a very stacked year, and because I think the upper potential of this house is lower for me personally. I am excited for the monsters, but I tend to find post-apocalyptic houses a bit drab, and I have a feeling this one will have a lot of generic human scareactors - raiders, good guy characters, etc.

9. Terror Tram – The paradox of the Terror Tram is that I love that it exists as something different, but it is almost always one of the weaker offerings. I would definitely have preferred with the rumored Killer Klowns Tram or a kooky original like Exterminatorz to another Blumhouse run, so it’s hard to be all that excited. I do look forward to the fact that they are mixing it up, including with adding Indisious and Exorcist: Believer, so I am open to being surprised. I think Terror Tram will be fine, but the constant Blumhouse is not as exciting as other things would be.

1.) Five Nights at Freddys - I was deep in the ground floor of the fandom for fnaf back in the super early days in 2014 so even though I've fallen off it, and as much as I'd probably like it a little better if it was speecifically based on the games, it's pretty impossible for me for me to not have a nostalgic interest in seeing something thats been embedded in my brain for 11 years now in real life.

2.) Fallout - Only ever played New Vegas, but finally got around to the show recently and had a really good time with it. It's a big swing aesthetically and the show itself barely had any horror elements at all, so I'm really curious to see how this turns out, but I'm definitely getting the vibe that it isn't gonna fall much from this spot just given the sheer unique nature of it, plus the tease of Season 2 will be a nice bonus since I actually care about the show now lol.

3.) Jason Universe - I was much more sold on this than I was at announcement the moment it was clarified that this won't just be the new design Jason recreating scenes from the movies. We're long overdue for a Jason greatest hits maze with as many of the Jason designs as we can squeeze in there, and I really liked TCM last year when it was properly staffed, so I'm optimistic.

4.) Horrors of Wyatt Sicks - I have never watched WWE in my life, and I barely know anything about this group outside of the Dead Meat video explaining their whole deal, but I like a big swing with haunts, and I love bayou haunts, and I feel like these characters are new enough that they stand on their own without constantly beating you over the head with the fact theyre wrestling characters, I'm really hoping this will be the sleeper hit.

5.) Monstruos Volume 3 - I can't really say any of the folklore here really excites me, I get what they're going for but it's missing the variety that the previous 2 have had a bit, especially since we've actively seen La Llorona with a horse head before, and now we have both La Llorona and a different horse-headed ghost, but every Monstruos house has worked for me thus far, I didn't mind the reuse of El Cucuy, so I'm probably not gonna mind the reuse of La Llorona here.

6.) Terrifier - As of now I've been too squeamish to bite the bullet and actually watch these movies for my HHN homework, and I kinda expect to hate them, and I can't say I'm a fan of the creator's opinions on horror movies in general, but I'm always happy to see some new IP blood at the event, even if in practice I'm probably gonna skip this more often than not for the stinky smells and presumably excessive water effects. Killer Klowns I'd say was my cutoff for tolerance for getting theme park water blasted in my face.

7.) Slashcrowz - I'm less bothered than most people seem to be by the soundtrack change. Will it probably obliterate the original maze's atmosphere? Almost definitely. That said, I am curious what this will look like, especially given the weird amount of emphasis theyve put on Slash by giving him his own bar and stilt walker character(?). I probably won't wait more than 30 minutes for this on any given night, but it's at least a new spin on a repeat that has me curious, even if it's sickly curious.

8.) Poltergeist - It's Poltergeist. I liked the 2018 maze well enough and I hope this builds on that. This is by far the least exciting to me though. That said, I will probably be in there a lot because I have friends working there lol, so ultimately my lack of excitement doesn't really translate to time spent there.

9.) Terror Blum 15 Years of Blumtram - Despite this almost objectively looking like an improvement on last year's budgetarily, I just can't bring myself to be interested in this. Insidious and Exorcist Believer aren't really enough to get me to feel like this is much more than a glorified repeat, even if I think the snowy aesthetic for Black Phone 2 could be *something* new at least.

1: The Horrors of Wyatt Sicks - As someone who isn't in the name of knowing what wrestling is, nor do I have a desire to look into it; it feels like with everything said that this is going to be much more of a "Original" swampland house than I think people realize. Expecting this one to be the big shock of the season.

2: Terrifier - Texas LoL is one of my all time favorite slasher houses for how far Murdy actually decides to push the envelope in what he can get away with. Considering the nature of Terrifier as a franchise, what it means; I am genuinely interested if they could pull off what is likely going to be the most anticipated house for the GP (even more than FNAF).

3: Jason Universe - Friday 2010 is in my top 5 all time favorite slasher IP houses, because of the shear intensity and drive they gave for the Jason actors in that house. It's the one house that I genuinely regret not planning a HHN trip for, because I would've adored the chance to see this in full glory.

4: Monstruos - The Monstruos houses while not being typically houses that excite me, have proven with atleast Monstruos 2 of the genuine fun that comes when Murdy gets the chance to shine light. Repeated similarities aside, genuinely hopeful they end the trilogy off with a banger

5: Fallout - The house that I think will work great with the "Dark Ride Formula" that Hollywood's been angling at for years, I think there's going to be a really good balance. There is a lot to use from Season 1, and I can't wait to see what Lucy, Maximus and The Ghoul are embodied by with their actors.

6: FNAF - While this one is the true "Dark Ride" that I am expecting it to be, I get a sense that this might be the AQP of the year. Not scary, but a fun time that is a tech showcase, especially when paired with JHCS.

7: Poltergeist - Not a fan of the original movie, but I do admit I wish I could've seen this house. Really hoping they do some good changes to bring life to the experience.

8: Scarecrow - I've been direct in saying that Scarecrow is my all time favorite original. But I am genuinely fearful for the harm Slash's music is going to do to this. WWE should've been the one to get Slash, not this.

It's that time again!

1) Five Nights at Freddy's: I am not the biggest FNAF buff, but I am really curious to see how they're going to pull off all of the ambitious effects for this house. If not scary, I will expect this to at least be technically impressive!

2) Monstrous 3: The Monstrous houses have always been a hit for me. Also the tight quarters for the Parisian courtyard make for a more intense experience so I look forward to the final installation of this!

3) WWE: Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks: I have literally no idea what to expect in this house, even moreso I don't know much about WWE lore. The fact that I don't know much only adds to the anticipation for this.

4) Terrifier: I feel like this will be a true return to form for HHN with its brutality. I'm curious to know how the GP is gonna respond to how brutal this house will be. It'll be great to get a taste of old school HHN again!

5) Fallout: I don't expect this to be that inense, though I would love to be wrong! I do think this will at least have awesome scenic.

6) Jason Universe: Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it! It's just lower because I've been to HHN since 2009 so I've seen a lot of Jason already. THere's only so much you can do with a dude in a hockey mask at a campsite. Like Terrifier, I'm looking forward to this also being a return-to-form for HHN with its brutality, though I think Terrifier will accomplish that more. The Mummy venue is pretty tight so this will provide for some awesome scares!

7) Poltergeist: Loved the 2018 house but....it's basically going to be the same. So meh. Hopefully they change some things up but I'm not expecting much.

8) Scarecrow: Music by Slash: Like...why? Scarecrow was GOATed but Slash doesn't work for this.

1. FNAF

I’ve been a FNAF fan… honestly, not since the first one came out. I was very curious and liked hearing about it from others in... what, 1st grade? But I didn’t become a HUGE fan until about 7 years ago. I stayed a big fan from 2019 to 2021, but fell off after Security Breach sort of disappointed me.

Then the movie came out, was everything I wanted out of a FNAF movie despite being objectively underwhelming in places. I temporarily got back into the games and their lore, expecting it to last a month or so... and now here I am, incredibly tapped into the YouTube theorist community, writing my own scripts and thinking about this series literally constantly.

The preamble was probably unnecessary, but the point is that I'm extraordinarily excited to actually step into the pizzeria. I have no idea how I'm going to react emotionally, and I'll do my best not to because it would be really dumb, but there's a possibility that I cry. This is gonna be a great time. I really hope we get a food stand... I already know I'm buying almost all the merch they'll sell.

I thought a lot about the second spot and this might be really weird but:

2. Poltergeist

I have not seen the original movie. I do intend to before I start the event, but I haven't. I'm going almost purely off vibes and the many videos I've seen of the original house. The black walls were super lame, but honestly it didn't seem that bad in the video. I love love love the costumes and visual designs in this one. The guy with the melted face is a little overused at the beginning, but he's so 80's campy practical effects slasher looking and I just love it.

Once you enter the "spirit realm", this becomes one of the coolest houses I've seen. The gigantic glowing skull puppets, the bone monster puppet animatronic thing, the section with the fleshy walls and the jack in the box actor, the entire graveyard finale that does the "which ones are actors and which ones are props" bit to great effect. And then the fact that this seemingly uses the original score from the film, which gives it a really cool tone. Idk, maybe I haven't been to enough HHN's yet but I'm really really excited to see this one.

3. Jason Universe...?

I've only seen the F13 reboot. Again, I intend to see most of the good ones before the end of the month but I've been busy. I'm very excited to see a horror icon like Jason get a house like this. Every year we get a character on this level, thew entire event has a different vibe. I don't really know what to expect, but if this is the Leatherface sequel this is probably going to be one of the best versions of "slasher in the woods" we ever get.

4. Terrifier

Have not seen any of the movies. I'm pretty excited to see them just go absolutely insane testing the limits of what they can do with this one. I have a feeling they took all the criticism of "HHN isn't scary anymore", went straight "oh yeah? we'll see about that" on this one and created something just absolutely visceral. Excited to see the two paths gimmick, I have a feeling the Art actors are going to have an amazing time and really kill it because the character is so over the top and easy to embody. Not excited for the bathroom scene...

5. Fallout

I really need to lock in on my research. I know next to nothing about Fallout, but I did buy 3 and New Vegas in the summer Steam sale. I will say I really love the visual design of the world, the monsters and characters and even if this isn't scary at all I'm pumped to have some AQP moments of just staring at these absolutely massive creatures and special effects in awe of how they even built them. The fight scene at the end Murdy mentioned is probably going to be awesome. I honestly like the world of the series better in live action than I do in the Bethesda "photorealistic but not quite" style. I think this will be really fun. I REALLY NEED TO START MY RESEARCH THOUGH.

6. Scarecrow

This is going above Monstruos because despite being a repeat, I missed it in 2022 as that was my first year ever and I didn't really know what I was doing. Hopefully this lives up to the hype, even with the bizarre choice to use Slash for the soundtrack which really clashes with the vibe... who knows, maybe he'll try to fit into the dust bowl decrepit farm vibe instead of just doing his typical thing and trying to make it work. Don't really know what to expect, but I'm sure it'll be fun.

7. WWE

I know everyone thinks this will be the surprise hit of the year, which I can definitely see, but even now knowing this is specifically based on the Wyatt Sicks lore with no overt ties to wrestling I'm just inherently less excited for this than almost every other house. The character designs are decently cool, but they all kind of look like members of a weird 2000's metal band. I like the skull looking guy who kinda looks like the Predator. Idk, I'm sure this one will surprise me and be great but in my mind right now I'm just not that excited.

8. Monstruos 3

I'm just kind of sick of the LatAm monsters at this point. The original was my favorite house of the year and I liked last years version, but now that we're confirmed doing this a THIRD TIME not counting La Llorona I just have very little hype left. I'm super excited for the witches scarezone, actually, but returning to the SAME CRYPT to see La Llorona again, La Siguanaba who just looks like female El Charro and La Muelona who just looks like female El Cucuy. I kinda wish they'd actually done Isle of Dolls like originally rumored, the monsters they picked are just too samey for me.

I really hope we continue using Parisian to represent a certain geographical area and their myths in the future, both in the house and SZ. And I REALLY hope the next one we get is Asia. A yokai house is pretty much my number one or two dream house now that FNAF is actually here, and there are so many of them that a trilogy of houses would be almost necessary.
