Oh god I didn't even think about that. I was on another site going "man, disney could take notes for Simba and stuff", but the fact Universal is willing to use tech like this on their M&Gs makes me wonder how long until we see it used for other IP.

This is a stunning M&G already and I'm excited to see Toothless which will likely end up a 'plussed' version of this.

...but I thought this land took place between HTTYD 2 and 3? Where's muh lore consistency?!

Portal hijinks messed with the timeline. :p

(For real though, if its design is similar to HP it's a case where the land is generalized like a greatest hits playlist while specific rides or attractions lean into a specific time or story. Best of both worlds.)

Those robots were always a bit creepy but dangit that's the most adorable thing ever!

This alone definitely puts Epic in the category of "most technologically advanced" theme park. Now I'm really curious about what other goodies may show up here or elsewhere in the park. Maybe those flying dragons around Berk won't be a fever dream!

Universal is definitely setting an industry standard with this innovative meet and greet.

I’m excited to see the other surprises they have for this land.

Could the Erumpent in Ministry of Magic attraction be like this with free-roaming, untethered motion -- using Boston Dynamics type tech? If so, would that would be a first in a dark ride?

Going from memory I was thinking the larger Boston Dynamics horse would be close, but you're right it's still quite a bit too small. Maybe they can scale up the tech some day. (Though if they have a relationship with BD...seeing that horse bot gallop around in a dark ride for some other IP would be pretty amazing.)

I'll help you out if you share him with me. I'll have him on the weekdays and you can have weekends. Deal?

Very neat stuff. Wouldn't be surprised if the meet and greet dragon tech trickles down into Pokemon at USF.

Pretty big spoiler that I wish was kept a secret until park open. Makes me worry that all the cool stuff is gonna start to come out in the park and we will have already seen it.

There's all the interiors we have yet to see. Queues for the rides. Then there's the rides themselves. I'm surprised we haven't seen much more on the Celestial Carousel

Great use of a Boston Dynamics robot. They also used one at Toothsome for a while but this one (I think) is the version with the robot arm to animated the head. Must be so cool to see this in real life.

Boston Dynamics posted this back in April showing how the Spot robot could be used for entertainment purposes.

The post linked in that video bio also talks about the control software that allows for animation.

This MKBHD video gives you a good look at the typical controller for Spot too.

The range of motion looks quite limited. In that last helicopter video it only looks like it can look up on the one axis, can’t seem to turn its head. Is it opening its mouth at all? I can’t tell. Still, a really cool application for this tech and I’m sure it will be even more magical on the ground.

They posted a longer video, and halfway through it can look left and right a little.. I think the head is on a swivel mount, they just aren't controlling it to move its head side to side much.
