Warner Bros is very interested on turning Harry Potter and the Cursed Child into a trilogy. They want to get Daniel Radcliffe back in the role and get the first movie out in 2020.

The article is full of rumor details.

Been expecting this ever since the play was announced. But a whole trilogy? I'm sorry, but :horse:.

I hope the whole thing gets cancelled. I can promise I won't be seeing this particular Potter movie. Fantastic Beasts? Hell yeah. Any story on Illvermorny? Beautiful. But this was a bad continuation.

I'd rather they just put the play out on blu ray and wait until they do the remakes to make this a movie. I don't think the original trio will return and I don't think the movies would be the same without them. By putting the play out on blu ray they can still cash in on it while not having any of the costs associated with making a movie.

Personally, I think this shows more that in the end of the day; money can talk. Do people want it? Probably not, but in the end of the day; it all relies on a few factors.

1.) Who they get to direct. I imagine that it all depends on if David Yates will direct the entirety of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. If he can't, then get someone that has been well versed in the Potter lore and how it can translate onto screen.

2.) Who they get to write. In this day and age, I think this is going to be one of the most important factors; much like with the Director. As if you get a writer that doesn't understand much of what JK and the playwrights want, it's going to turn ugly. I think if you get some high quality writers, you can get that chance to atleast make it better than what sounds to be the play.

3.) Get the trinity back. I would imagine that Rupert would be easy, but Daniel and Emma may be the hardballs. But, as is; money can be a persuading factor to cast actors nowadays, so in a way; I wouldn't be shocked that they get them, but it's going to be within a big contract..

Of-course, it's my opinion; but that's how I see it..

I'd give Alphonso Cuaron another shot. Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite potter movie.

The Wizarding World could be the next Star Wars with a new movie coming out every year or two long into the future.

If I had to choose a director for the new trilogy, J. A Bayona and Damien Chazelle co-directing would be my bet. People I know who saw Cursed Kid on stage during previews said first act was amazing and second act weak so at least we know the first movie will be good and let them rework the second and third films.

And for writer, get J.K Rowling to do the initial draft and then have Aaron Sorkin do the second draft and edits.

Then you most likely will have a strong movie series.

Potter + Sorkin would never work. Ever. Hermione is the only character who could handle Sorkin dialogue and she doesn't work in a cubicle.

I really hope this doesn't happen. JK Rowling seems to be going down the George Lucas route one Potter addition at a time.

But Potter works for the ministry and hates his life in Cursed Child which is why Sorkin would be perfect ;)

Ugh... if they're going to keep making Potter movies, I wish they would either:
1) Do more FB-style stories, with different time periods and regions in the same wizarding world.
2) A continuation of the Harry Potter story... that actually makes sense and doesn't spit in the face of the originals like the Cursed Child did.

I want Rowling to take a step back, realize that just because fans want something doesn't mean it should be done, and work on expanding the world. Cursed Child is done so it can't be undone exactly but I hope she realizes what a huge mistake she made. It's a waste of a good story. If she had done it properly it could have been good, but honestly the best parts lie in expanding the mysteries of the Wizarding World.

Here are a couple of follow up quotes from a Huffpost article.

A rep for Warner Bros. told The Huffington Post in a emailed statement Wednesday morning, “’Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”

No plans, but likely a lot of desire.

Considering Radcliffe is 27 years old, we have a little over a decade until the actor might consider returning to his blockbuster role. In a recent interview with the Radio Times, the actor spoke about what it would take to play Harry again.

“It would depend on the script,” Radcliffe said. “The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo, and look what happened there! So I am saying no for now, but leaving room to backtrack in the future.”

The rumor started from a source that said Warner Bros was trying to quietly get the rights. It never said anyone else was on board. Wonder if Rowling has made a statement about this.

This will be like all stage to screen conversions. It will be a decade before anything comes of it, if anything at all.

Wicked still isn't out. Book of Mormon died. They want the play to succeed.

Yeah, it normally takes a long time for stage shows to turn into movies as they want to squeeze out every last dollar they can from people while it's still popular on stage. As soon as you make a movie of it, people really have no reason to go see the play/musical unless it's a classic or you're just really into theatre.

Also recently Movie based off Musicals aren't profitable in the blockbuster range usually especially with Mama Mia being the best selling film based off musical of all time and its only made 600 Mil WW.

Well movie musicals don't have to be blockbusters as they are normally pretty cheap to make. They just need to make a significant amount. The last movie musical I can remember was Into The Woods (with Les Mis being before that).

Disney made $213M WW off a $50M budget from Into the woods. Universal made $441.8M off a $61M budget from Les Mis. If Les Mis was cast correctly and didn't have people who couldn't sing in lead roles, it probably would've done a lot better. Into the Woods made about what i'd expect from what I consider to be a lesser known musical.

Turns out Warner Bros did file a trademark for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as a movie title a while back. Deny it all they want. They are thinking about it.
