Yeah... I have had mixed feelings on this project from the get go. I have no doubt that this will be an absolutely incredible Rollercoaster with some nice rockwork and what not, but I keep asking myself “at what cost?” Kong and Forbidden Journey already did a number on Jurassic Park’s atmosphere, but this completely ripped it up, affecting everything from the general walkways, to Pteradon Flyers, and even Popeye (whose once secluded turn into the climactic liftnwas secluded, but now is abutted by a mass of steel). At this point, the only part of Jurassic that is retaining the secluded feel that once made the area so special appears to be the path between the HP bridge and LC Bridge, and that too will be heavily trafficked as people go to the entrance by the discovery center.
I once brought this up to a friend, who quickly responded “well, if you have a problem with coasters, then why do you like Hulk,” to which I first responded “I don’t hate coasters,” but then went on to talk about how MSHI is themed to an industrial urban area, so have a large mass of steel that appears to be sculpted is befitting of the area. Even more so, Hulk frames the entry to and area around it in a way that (so far) it doesn’t appear that Velocicoaster will. While this will be a great addition to the park, and one that I am sure I will enjoy, I still can’t help but mourn the loss of JP’s brilliant placemaking.
