Well, essentially the screens are merely a feature of this new Kong attraction as opposed to front and center like Spidey, Transformers, and even Forbidden Journey to an extent.

Since AAs, live sets, physical effects, an immersive temple facade/queue, and live actors are all involved, I'm certain Universal will not disappoint :smiley:

Never been on anything better than Spider-man. So I'm gonna say no, we can't all agree with that.

Transformers and Spider-man are better than Radiator Springs Racers for me, which is Disney's last big AA ride.

Spiderman, Not transformers, IS STILL the best ride out there. FJ came close, and transformers is the same as Spiderman - would have been its replacement but thank god it wasnt.

Spiderman is over 10 years old now, and still the best ride in Orlando. revolutionary, the next revolutionary ride was FJ, but still not as good. Uni has the chance as raising the bar once again using AA's. the concept of what HTF gave us, including an abduction, a Kong AA, etc. This would be a signature ride. Like I said before, I dont believe Uni wont add an AA Kong. Like HTF said in one of his tweets (This being I read it correctly), Uni is going to pass Disney in dark rides and set the new standard... Theyll do whats right

Also clarify their will be AA's, projected effects, physical effects, pyro, and 3d. All while utilizing a motion base RV. Also after a conversation tonight at HHN I'm like 90% Kong is coming where as before I was about 70%. :thumbs:

Ummm,that sounds pretty freaking awesome to me! :dance: I mean, I LOVED Knongfrontation, it was fantastic. But the AA's were not the most realistic representation of a giant ape. I mean they sat still in one spot (the second one was practically standing straight up like a human), they moved pretty slowly, and I know were not cheap to build or maintain. I understand AA tech has come a long way, but to have the kind of interaction with the guests/ride vehicle (we want or expect) requires a sacrifice in either mobility/speed or safety. Which do you think Universal would choose? Look at the whomping willow, I don't know the whole story, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it's profile was changed and movement lessened due to safety concerns with the RV's ride path.

I for one will wait and see. Universal haven't disappointed me in their new direction yet. All I'm saying is no one should complain about something that has not been built or any plans released. I have faith.

And I wish people would give it a rest about IOA being solely about literature. Do you think the general guest has any idea that's the main idea... Or cares? If it's a quality product that ties itself into the area, brings in people and makes Uni money I don't think anyone should complain.

P.S. There technically was novel. From wiki- "A novelization of the original King Kong film was published in December 1932 as part of the film's advance marketing. The novel was credited to Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper, although it was in fact written by Delos W. Lovelace."

I for one would rather have one big AA than a ride full of screens.
I loved the original Kongfrontation, even though the big bad AA's weren't perfect. That thing was built 24 years ago! You can't tell me that in 24 years time Universal couldn't make a more realistic and fluidly moving Kong bot.

Universal has disappointed me in the past few years...believe it or not. When Transformers was originally being pitched, it talked a out giant AA's in the ride. When I finally rode it in Hollywood I was VERY disappointed. I expected at least a Bumblebee or Optimus that pointed where to go or talked to you...not all screens. Heck, if any ride should have featured giant robots, that was the one.
Do I hate the current Transformers ride? No. Do I think it could've been better? Most definitely.

And as for the IOA literature stuff...that's what the park was based on! The reason people get upset is the same reason why people hate what Disney has done to Epcot: kiddiefy the park and change its identity. Same goes for the Magic Kingdom: cartoonify Tomorrowland. People hate when awesome theme parks start to lose their cohesive theming. I say If they have to build a giant monster ride in IOA, I say build a new Jaws ride! At least that was a novel first that became a popular movie series after.

I agree that Uni needs more modern AAs in the park. Transformers would have been easy to make look realistic, but with what is available now I was hoping for a huge Kong AA. I believe they could make something so convincing we'd forget about the old ones :lol:

But the way I see it about the park that's based on literature it is more of a trivia fact than anything else. It is a neat concept, but it does not change the "feel" of the park to me.

Spiderman works for me because it really doesn't seem like you're watching all screens. They do an unprecedented job of blending the sets and screens. I didn't get that at all from TF. I could tell I was watching a video game, and that's probably part of why I don't care for it. And Kong 360 was very meh for me. It's a nice novelty for the tram tour, but I'll be very disappointed if its the basis of whatever multimedia they use.

^ Agreed, I do believe its quite possible to make a fluid and convincing AA of that size. The yeti was insanely realistic when it actually moved. But unless they mounted it on a huge Kuka arm (which would be sooo awesome) or track it would still be a partially static figure in that it does not walk or jump or climb like the Ape from the movie. IMO we would still just be observers watching a giant AA. (the original Kongfrontation touched on that aspect with him "picking up" the tram, but it wasn't totally convincing, and again, slow moving. For what I assume were technological limitations and safety of the guest). One of the cool aspects of TF and Spiderman is that the characters actively interact with the guests and ride vehicles. Albeit they are still projections, it adds a lot of personality to the ride and make it much more memorable.

And I agree with you Natespf about the literary theming seeming more like a trivial fact. Adding Stitches Great Escape or Monster Inc. to MK, and a Nemo layover to The Living Seas (which I actually quite like) to EPCOT is on a totally different level than adding an amazing sounding and possibly cutting edge attraction with a fantastic theme to an empty section of the park. IMHO

The original Kong was all Airbags for movement, they were inflated and deflated to move all of the limbs, that is why it was slow.

I could care less what Disney is doing, and I think it has no relation into how excited I should feel or not feel about an upcoming attraction. Yes, I am very thankful that Universal is building like crazy. And any ride is better than no ride at all. But I do think its fair for me to express my opinion that I'm tired of 3-D and I'm ready to see some more animatronics.

Man, some of you are EXTREMELY hard to impress. No offense. You have the right to have an opinion and dislike things but I'm not going to complain about Transformers AT ALL. Especially when we were not supposed to get it all. And considering there was nothing in it's place before. Now Kong I believe there will be AA's and also impressive screen effects. That's an attraction that I will be expecting more than 3D technology and screens. Mainly because Kongfrontation was so old and that at least had a Kong AA. So I am definitely expecting something as or more impressive.

The fact that this is going into IOA versus usf is making the multi media addition better. USF is becoming over consumed by 3d and screen attractions. The technology used for these attractions are impressive, but taking friends and families to the parks all agree rides like MIB and et are a blessing and a relief from all the 3d. I love all the new advanciesvthey are making but I also agree that there needs to be a balance of AA attractions within the parks. I'm hoping that if the Lorax does get built we will some AAs. V

It does make the balance better going into IoA. Especially in the corner with mostly water rides, it's in need of a non-water e-ticket over there.

Is there a final count of what Comcast has planned for 2015? from what I understand we should be seeing

- Skull Island
- Amber mine coaster
- Lorax Ride

I can see how this COULD seeing that the most dense areas will be Diagon and hogsmeade, especially with the train making it easier to go from one side to another. But a whole new IP, a ride inside, im sure a restaurant or something, amber mine coaster and new lorax ride. Can that truly be done in 18 months? Hopefully they break ground soon and announce their plans to the world to get a confirmation on the plans

I'm still annoyed that I missed Kongfrontation by 2 months all the way back in 2002! Why did my parents HAVE to go to Orlando in November?! :mad: :catfight:

So I really really hope this new Kong attraction happens, it sounds incredible & I do have a soft spot for the giant ape. :smiley:

Is the Lorax still happening in 2015 or is it being pushed back due to Kong? That could be a pretty hefty budget for 2015 if so

Remember, 500 million at least for UOR and USH every year from here on out.

Kong = 150 mill
Amber Mine = 60 mill
Lorax = 100 mill
USH = remaining 190 mill

All those numbers are guesses, but there's wiggle room in there.
