I know the "IOA = Literature Theme" discussion was a page or two back, but I'll just say that I've been going to the park for years and didn't know until a few months ago, when I read it on here, that this was the case. I see it now, but I never made the connection.

Also, I might add, Dudley Do-Right is not a literature/comic book character. It started as a segment on the Rocky and Bullwinkle TV show. So they violated their own theme from the beginning, and I don't think we should let the literature-based rule limit the possibilities.

I ride it pretty much every time I go. So yes, I also like it. Now is it a HM or PoTC? No. Is it better than PP (which seriously needs an update) and It's a Small World? Yes.

Mermaid is a good ride, but is a disappointment compared to what it could have been. Imagine suspended ride vehicles that could change in elevation like they were floating under the water and it would have been an E-ticket instead of a D/C ticket. As it is most guests walk into the station and say "of, it's just like the Nemo ride in EPCOT".

Nope your not alone I like it a lot for what it is and isn't a family ride not thrill ride which many here have been saying Universal is in need of.
Very much yes the cost is shocking and kind of sad to think about but Disney does seem to spend more of it's money on the theming and total immersion factor

True, it's so brightly lit in there that even cell phone pics come out decently.

Okay...this post is a whole bag of crazy.

I'm not even going to touch the "KUKA arms throwing a ride car" part. You're right, AA technology has come a long way. And you know who the last company was that tried to create a big, life-like AA? Disney, the KING of AAs. And what is that doing now? Nothing. It's sitting in a cave with a strobe light on it. Because having a large, realistic AA that needs to move quickly and effectively every 15 seconds in the same manner is a logistical and engineering nightmare.

Again, you don't understand the differences here. The Kong puppet in the show is human controlled and only has to work for 4 hours a day with 20 hours of maintenance time if problems arise. Not 9-12 hours a day every 15 seconds for 356 days in the year.

The animatronics for that application would be completely different for the theme park use. I get you want an AA, but you clearly don't understand the engineering hurdles it takes to have a realistic AA of that size in a theme park attraction.

All very valid points. A pupette is quite different than AA, and even not all AAs that are possible to make today would work in a persistant theme park situation. But we are worlds ahead of when the original Kong was built, they could make something much more convincing and reliable than the previous incarnations. That's enough for me, but I love giant AAs like Kong, dinos, Honey...I blew up the baby

 I was assuming it was a comic book before the show. That is very funny. But if you think about it the comic strips are still a stretch for a literature theme.

Are scripts literature? Almost all movies, most TV shows, and even those popular video games are based on a script. Would WWE or TNA admit to being scripted if it got 'em a land in a themepark?

Yeah...but you can't say Uni didn't spend money on theming FJ and that it doesn't have an immersion factor?

But that makes it even better.... Do you think half the people know about the back stories to disney attractions? I seriously doubt it... but these subtleties somehow do connect even IMO subliminally.

Sometimes newer technology isnt always best. We saw what they could do with a werewolf puppet. Now obviously Kong is a little larger but still...Technology is not always best.

FWIW, after a convo with HTF last night I am much more excited and optimistic about Kong's return, and much more confused about what it means for the theming of Jurassic Park...

So King Kong going in-between Toon Lagoon and JP was talked about on the second episode of Universal NOW! back in February. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, haven't really been keeping up with this thread

Excellent point! That werewolf puppet was freaking awesome, and much more effective than a werewolve on a screen would have been.

Only a lot :P Basically, HTF said that it is now believed that instead of a Kong-themed overlay of Disaster, there is going to be an entirely new mini-island devoted to it in Islands of Adventure, in the land behind Thunder Falls which had previously been thought to be the future location of the JP amber mine coaster (which is now believed to be going in the former Trike encounter area). If memory serves, it could consist of one major E-ticket attraction that would be similar to a cross between The Great Movie Ride and some Indiana Jones ride at Disney Land, as well as some other general themed stuff. Also, this could mean moving the entrance to Jurassic Park up to the Thunder Falls restaurant.

That is what it looks like for the time being, I am not sure about the future.

What if they overlaid it with Die Hard with a Vengeance? :idea2: Recreate making a big hole in the ground to rob the bank
